The media product aimed to create a gory horror film that followed conventions of the genre. Some conventions included setting it in a forest environment like Scream, isolating the character by filming in a rural area with no escape from the trees, and keeping the antagonist anonymous like in Scream to intrigue audiences. Stereotypical techniques used included dark lighting at night for threat, filming initially on a phone for modern twist and lower quality, adding subtle music and glitches for suspense, and exaggerated close-up shots of the distressed victim. Both diegetic and non-diegetic sounds were used to enhance the scary scenes.

2. • In the media product our aim was to create a gory horror film in order to furfill the
horror film title, we did not have any sort of inspiration from a film we mainly got into
our group and stereotyped some films that we had seen, we then decided that we
wanted to include something typical of the genre for example the film was set in a
forest like environment like many other horror films such as scream
3. FORESTS
• As a group we also made the decision to film in a rural community as we were filming
inbetween lots of trees which is also following the horror convention of the isolation
meaning that the audience know that the character is completely alone and is then
defenseless because they were not expecting it. However we have left out the
convention of the finding a road or something that leads to other people or a main
part of a community because we wanted to keep the message as if she was not going
to escape the forest. The forest was meant to represent a jail like message that you
can’t escape the killer as the trees are keeping you there with them and are meant to
be like a cell containing the victim there
4. ANONYMOUS
• The main antagonist was also following the convention of being anonymous (for
example scream) yet very mentally unstable as we have made this obvious when we
filmed the victim running from the antagonist making it clear that they were chasing
after her, making the antagonist feel like they are mentally unwell and have a history
like many other films. The stereotype of keeping the antagonist anonymous also then
makes the audience or viewer make assumptions as to who it is ie race, gender, age;
this then keeps the audience intrigued as they want to know who it is and would think
that they are unveiled at the end of the film
6. LIGHTING
• As mentioned earlier as a group we had decided that we would like dark lighting
(natural/low key) to keep within the stereotype of night being the most dangerous and
threatening this then means we are following stereotypes of such films as scream
where the darkness intensifies the scene by making the viewer unaware of what is
totally going on.
7. CAMERA QUALITY
• As group we have also used the idea of the victim first filming on their phone, so there
would be a possible link to the main part of the story if we had chosen to make more.
It also gives the story a modern twist instead of the whole thing being filmed on a
large video camera like they used to do in films. When filming from the phone we also
made the footage we got a little bit lower quality so they viewer could tell it was being
filmed on a lower quality camera. We also Had very subtle music all the way through
the film as it added suspense and made the audience unaware of what is going to
happen next, along side this we had added in the snow screen effects to make it look
like the video was cutting out, without a known reason.

8. CAMERA ANGLES/ MOVEMENTS
• The camera angles that we chose were also very conventional for a horror opening as
many of them were either mid shots to show the viewer the victim and what is going
on around the victim so they have an idea of what could happen and the type of
setting that they are in. The next camera angle is the close up take from a range of
different angles (high shot, low shot and eye level). We used close ups to show the
audience what the victim was doing, we then made these shots very over exaggerated
with sharp movements from the victim to show that she was distresses and the close
up shot was meant to present this and make it obvious to show something was going
to happen.
9. SOUND
To do this we also used sound both diegetic and non diegetic to enhance the scene for
example we used a non diegetic sound when the victim first realised that something was
following her, we made these sounds by filming some sounds on our phones while
filming such as a twig snapping. However we used the diegetic sounds of the victim
panting and screaming when she was running as this then makes it more like a low
quality recording like we would want it to be when portraying that she is filming
something
