1. TASK 2- BE ABLE TO GENERATE IDEAS FOR DIGITAL
GRAPHICS FOR AN INTERACTIVE MEDIA PRODUCT
2. STIMULUS
Client brief- My client is a gaming company that has started a Retro gaming channel on twitch which
wants me to create a digital banner that headlines the front page of its channel.
Own brief- The client is a retro gaming company that plays retro games on its channel, so this means
that I need to include characters based in that genre of gaming. They’ve have asked me to include
characters of the most well-known retro games such as: Pac man, Street fighter.
4. THUMBNAIL SKETCHING
Thumbnail sketching isn’t required for my digital banner because the resources required to make the
banner can be obtained through the internet. I can use sprite images of characters to create my gifs and
copyright free images on the web for further content.
5. LEGAL AND ETHICAL CONSIDERATIONS:
Copyright- to avoid copyright
infringements I need to make
sure that the content I obtain
is eligible for me to use them
for any job e.g. blogs,
websites, apps, art or other
commercial use cases. I can
search through thousands of
royalty free images on many
copyright free image websites
for example; Pixabay, Pexels
and even on google. You can
use all images on them
website for free, even for
commercial use and the
images are completely royalty
free.

gaming”.
P2-When using google I had to use the usage rights tool to ensure that the images I downloaded
are copyright free.
6. LEGAL AND ETHICAL CONSIDERATIONS:
When designing the banner, I need to make sure that I comply to many ethical laws to make sure I don’t
offend the users. During the design specification I need to pay attention to all the details, such as the
colours, words, symbols and fonts to ensure that these don’t offend anyone in any way. For example, if I
use a symbol I need to know the meaning of that symbol because if your target audience is multicultural,
and the symbol has a religious meaning it can really offend those who follow the religion such as a
crucifix, cross or star of David. From research it’s been shown that sexual call of interests is used for
advertising. Sex draws the public attention in advertisements, but then again minus much brand
appreciation. Women pay a main focus in sexual advertising in the past and present, but now men are
beginning to be used as sex object in advertisements. Even though you can take careful planning, it’s
possible for advertisers to find a common ground and use sexual appeals without offending people in
the process. I’ll stay away from using sexuality in my project. When designing my digital banner, I need to
take into consideration that it needs to fit the attention of male, female and other genders. This would
involve me using female and male images and not just one gender type because that will give the
audience to the feeling that they’re not welcome or meaningless to the website.
7. LEGAL AND ETHICAL CONSIDERATIONS:
Decency- in deciding the process of selecting
images for the banner I have to make sure that it
was appropriate for children cause that is the main
target audience. Most of the games are old and
them times women perceived as visual objects. This
means the female characters were designed to have
big explicit features. I decided to stick on the safe
side and use a male character as my main.
Libel- I used games which are owned by big
companies that are known for suing those for using
their content. In my work I have used content that
are labelled for reuse to avoid that from happening.
intellectual property rights- These property rights
allow the holder to exercise a monopoly on the use
of the item for a specified period
8. INTERACTIVE MEDIA GRAPHICS:
Background-
My design for the banner is going to
consist of numerous retro games for each
letter of the word ‘RETRO’. For Example
the letter R could have a Mario theme
,letter E Pac-Man theme and so on. Each
theme will consist of GIFS relating to the
theme.
9. INTERACTIVE MEDIA GRAPHICS
Here I have a design which it involves the letter
appearing with a different game theme
background with GIFS in front of the
background. The letter could be placed in any
of the 3 positions I have displayed above.
Here I have a design which it involves mouse
interactions with the banner. So here in the
picture I want each letter to have its own GIF
when hovered over with a mouse.
Here I have a design which is just a slideshow of
the background and gifs that will transition in a
continuous loop.
10. INTERACTIVE MEDIA GRAPHICS:
Animated GIFs- after I figure out what
background I'm going to use sprite images of
characters of the backgrounds theme. Sprite
images are a group of images of the object in
different frames and the gifs are a combining of
multiple images into a single image file.

11. INTERACTIVE MEDIA GRAPHICS:
Texture Graphics- texture graphic might not be
needed because I already have background
images which have graphic effects added.
However if I feel like I need to add a texture
graphic to the image I can use one these designs
and layer these over a image and reduce the
opacity.
12. GRAPHIC SPECIFICATION-CLIENT NEEDS
visual style-“There's definitely an element of
nostalgia, it's important to recognise the design of
the banner and include many of those classic
games; Street Fighter, Super Mario and Pacman
need to be added cause they're the most well
known retro games.
Colour- the black should be used as the
background or preferably a dark colour. The colour
of the characters should be kept to their original
format to reduce the chance of characters not
being recognised.
Typography- the aim of the banner is to promote
retro gaming, so it will be good to see text from
retro games. Even having each letter have its own
design.
Client needs:
“The Content is the most vital part of the digital
banner and having flashy and aesthetically pleasing
features on the banner. The banner needs to make
the website more appealing and valuable to the
visitors”
“It’s crucial that design involves a lot of images to
reduce the amount of white space . This will make it
cluttered and more interesting for the visitors to
look at”
13. GRAPHIC SPECIFICATION-TECHNICAL CONSIDERATIONS
File format- the file format for the digital banner
is going to GIF. This is done by going to FILE
>EXPORT>SAVE FOR THE WEB and change the
file format to gif.
File size- GIF images have a maximum of 256
colours so I can expect serious image and colour
degradation.
intended output- the aim of this banner is to be
advertisement for the company RETRO. The
banner will be displayed on other sites as an gif
and when clicked it will link them to the
companies website.
