2. Week 1
This week, the first thing I did was to make a template in Photoshop where I am
choosing to do my work as it is good for doing creative illustrations and I am much
more comfortable working in this programme over some of my other options.
I then decided that I needed to have a colour scheme fully sorted and preferably
ready to use throughout, so I found an image of all the colours of beads that I will
be possibly using and found the midpoint of each to create my colour scheme. I am
using these 28 colours throughout, this may be a slightly bigger colour scheme
than most would like to use, but I feel I can use these effectively throughout the
fanzine as they all have the same sort of vibrancy and so fit together very nicely.
With each page I am trying to keep to very limited colour scheme to ensure the
reader is not too overwhelmed by each individual thing. I feel this is mostly
working quite well, although I may be a little biased towards this idea, my peers
who have seen my work so far are seeming to agree.
3. I have started making half the pages this week, and creating the patterns for a lot
of the pages. I have found this quite hard as it is very daunting to try and start
creating, but I feel it may be going quite well as I am sticking to a very small
selection of fonts to help it all flow easier for the reader, and making it bright
and inviting for my audience, as the topic – Hama beads – are a rather bright and
simple thing. Creating the patterns has caused quite a bit of trouble for me as I
have had troubles with the printer, and certain sites not working quite as I may
want them to, but overall, I kept working at it and decided I should avoid getting
too stressed. This worked amazingly as I have now found a way to do my
patterns as I wanted them, and all it takes is a little extra work.
4. Week 2
This week I was continuing with my production. I decided, to add another few pages
to the fanzine as I had planned much more text than could fit on the base 12 pages. I
had not realised in planning how this text would fit on the A5 page in a readable size.
This would have been important to plan out, but I forgot to ensure that it could fit, as
I was more concerned about making sure I wrote it out alright at the time. This is
something that next time, I would like to ensure I check more and plan out
accordingly.
Adding the 4 extra pages took quite a bit of further planning and rearranging of what
I already had produced.
5. Week 3
This week was mostly a lot of rearranging and sorting out ant last minute
changes. A lot of these changes were reading over everything and double
checking spelling and grammar. I had to rearrange a few of the pages as I tried
printing it out and analyzing how it was going to be presented. I had to check
over the positioning of all the different images and text on all pages, as I
realized that there was a couple pages that were not as fitting to the design
of the rest, due to not having as many images through the page, as I had
decided to do a big area of text instead.
I also decided to create an Instagram page in order to add another way for
any readers to interact with. This was something that took a while to try to
create a good way to actually do it as I have taken quite a while since trying to
do anything in this style. Also with how many names are always already
taken, it is so difficult.
