2. Content
I am planning to be using pre-existing and royalty free nursery rhymes for my
entire book.
I am not yet sure exactly in what order I wish to put them in, but I know that
I am planning to use; Itsy Bitsy Spider, Mary Had a Little Lamb, Row Row
Row your boat, Baa Baa Black Sheep, It’s Raining It’s Pouring, Hickory
Dickory Dock, Humpty Dumpty, and Mary Mary Quite Contrary.
I may also include a couple others as well seems as this would mean all
double pages, so if I do not do this to all I may include; Cock a Doodle Doo,
Pat a Cake, Simple Simon, and Doctor Foster.
I am planning to not change any of the words to these rhymes, as I feel they
are better as their originals for the new generations as well as past ones
have.

Itsy bitsy spider climbed up the
water spout,
Down came the rain
And washed the spider out.
Out came the sun
And dried up all the rain
And the itsy bitsy spider
climbed up the spout again.
Mary had a little lamb,
Whose fleece as white as snow,
And everywhere that Mary went
the lamb was sure to go.
He followed her to school one
day,
Which was against the rules.
It made the children laugh and
play,
to see a lamb at school.
Humpty Dumpty sat on a wall,
Humpty Dumpty had a great fall.
All the king’s horses and all the king’s men,
Couldn't put humpty together again.
Mary, Mary, quite contrary,
How does your garden grow?
With silver bells, and cockle shells,
And pretty maids all in a row.
4. Row, row, row your boat,
Gently down the stream,
If you see a crocodile,
Don’t forget to scream.
Baa baa black sheep,
Have you any wool?
Yes sir, Yes sir,
3 bags full.
1 for the master,
1 for the dame,
And 1 for the little boy who
lives down the lane.
It’s raining, it’s pouring,
The old man is snoring.
He went to bed,
And bumped his head,
And couldn’t get up in the
morning.
Hickory, dickory, dock.
The mouse ran up the clock.
The clock struck one,
The mouse ran down,
Hickory, dickory, dock.
5. Possible Others
Cock-a-doodle do!
My dame has lost her shoe,
My master’s lost his fiddlestick,
And knows not what to do.
Pat-a-cake, pat-a-cake, baker’s man.
Bake me a cake as fast as you can.
Pat it, and roll it, and mark it with a B,
And put it in the oven for baby and me.
Simple Simon met a pieman,
Going to a fair,
Says Simple Simon to the pieman,
Let me taste your ware.
Says the pieman to Simple Simon,
Show me first your penny,
Says Simple Simon to the pieman,
Indeed I have not any.
Doctor Foster went to Gloucester,
In a shower of rain,
He stepped in a puddle,
Right up to his middle,
And never went there again.
6. I have been looking at some bright colour schemes that
would be eye catching and possibly interesting to the young
audience. I have also thought of maybe using some slightly
more muted colours, but am unsure how that would work as
it may be slightly too underwhelming and unattractive to the
young children. I am quite a fan of using the more pastel
colours for backgrounds, and saving the brighter versions for
the foreground which is how I may conduct my work.
Mood board
I have selected these fonts as
options to use throughout my
book, as I found these during my
research and tried them out in
my experiments. I feel these
work really well for children’s
books as it is easy to read and
understand, it is also very similar
to how little children are taught
to write, so they should be able
to read it easier.
These designs are giving me an idea of
the type of way that I wish to be drawing
the illustrations for my work, although I
am unsure I will be completely able to
recreate this type of illustrations as I am
planning to hand draw it all.
7. Here are some examples of the type of way I would like to
layout my pages, to include a space in the page that is
blank, or has minimum decoration in the background to be
able to put my text in, that still fits into the image. This is
proved to be effective as it seems to be quite a popular
way to produce these sort of books, as it is making sure
that the children reading the books have more to look at. I
would not like to have a white cloud like shape to confine
all the text to in the page, as I feel that that design does
not look quite as attractive and appealing to me through
what I have seen through existing products, although
occasional pages may require one.
8. Location
I am planning to do all my work at college, as there are the programs
that I need to use on those computers.
This will mostly be during my scheduled lessons, although I may require
a little extra time to complete my work. This will be a cheap enough
place to get to as I regularly buy month tickets for the bus to be able to
attend. The rain should not stop this, so I can hardly think of any
reasons why the weather should affect my travels, unless there is a
surprise snow storm in the spring/summer time that we are doing this
project in. The college is open most holidays and weekends, so I have
plenty of access to this location and their resources.
9. Finance
I will mostly just have to pay out for the printing of my product, which I
have already looked into and will cost me approximately £11 through
Aldi photobook printing services that I am planning to use.
I will be able to get this due to my weekend job, so it will be easy
enough for me to get the money.
10. Time
I will have approximately 7 weeks of production time and Aldi printing
services require a minimum of 16 pages to print my book, so I will need
to do that many pages. With the fact that that time limit means that I
would have 21 days in college, I will plan to spend around a day on
each page with a couple extra days for the front and back covers. I will
then also need to evaluate and alter the pages after they are complete.
This will also give me time to maybe have 2 days each on the first 2 or 3
pages, to establish my methods and style.
11. Facilities
I plan to use college’s facilities throughout this project. This will mainly
be the Mac that I have been using throughout this year in the
classroom, but at times I may also need to use some other computers
around the college, including the computers in the learning centre. I
know that these resources are mostly available during all college days,
and some other days throughout, giving me a lot of chance to come in
extra and so be able to complete the project.
I am also requiring a graphics tablet to draw my illustrations out, which
for this I am going to use my own tablet, which is a Wacom Intuos pen
and touch, which I am most familiar with and so I feel comfortable
using it.
12. Proposed Front Covers
I do not like the first name as much, so I feel I will stick with the
longer one, as it seems to me, to be more accurate.
13. I have done a couple different designs to choose from for my cover. In
this way, I feel that the fully illustrated design looks a little better
although quite busy.
14. I I converted my designs to the computer, and added a possible set of colours that I
may use. In this way, I prefer the handwriting paper idea as I feel it is a little
different and would be nice to have a change from the content inside the book. I
would preferably use some slightly different colours in the final, but it is less busy
in a way and therefore easier to read. For example, the colours in my 2nd try, I feel
make it a little easier to read the text over it.
15. Initial Page Ideas
These are initial plans for the layouts to fill my book, as double pages mostly,
although there are a few rhymes I feel would work just as well with only 1 page.
