To fit the conventions
within the genre I took
inspiration form many
popular rock magazines.
A close up suits
the genre well as
shown in Q and
SPIN magazine.
Drawing the
readers attention
to the magazine.
As demonstrated by
KERRANG! Magazine
, the main story
should have the
largest font second
to the mast head.
NME uses boxes to highlight
over articles within their
magazine , this informs the
reader of what they're
buying. It suits the rock
genre as they are loud and
attention grabbing.
Though a footer is rarely
used on a cover , this is
sometimes a feature in a
KERRANG! Magazine, it is
conventional as it follows
the route of the eye
4. HOW DOES SHUDDER FIT INTO THE
GENRE?SHUDDER is based on the most popular Rock
and Alternative music magazines available now,
using a similar target audience and by
replicating areas of different magazine covers
SHUDDER should , in many ways suit the genre
very well. This is because I have made sure it is
chatty enough for the target audience ( males
and females of 15-20 years of age ) to be
entertained whilst also creating house style that
flows consistently through the cover, contents
and double-spread pages to connote it is a well
established Alternative-rock magazine.
Colours used are there to help convey the
genre too ,as my target audience has both
male and females to cater for , I used dark
but neutral colours , sans fonts and
language conventional to the genre.
The contents page , like those I have
studied, consists of content which can
be found in the magazine that would
be a large attraction to the audience ,
advertising them here draws the reader
into the magazine. Whilst featuring an
album review section , it quickly
introduces what the magazine is about
, swiftly introducing its genre and
providing content the reader would
enjoy reading and thinking about.
