Kieran Bradley is conducting research for a client project at Two Rivers Radio, a community radio station targeting 24-40 year old listeners. He analyzed other local radio stations like Minster FM and BBC Radio York to understand their target audiences. Minster FM focuses on local issues and events for an older audience, while BBC Radio York covers topics like travel, music, sports and current affairs that would interest younger listeners. Two Rivers Radio has several shows addressing community topics like LGBT issues, mental health, and local politics that align with its target demographic. Kieran will consider Two Rivers Radio's audience when producing content for the station.
2. Audience
My client is a community radio station in York, called Two Rivers
Radio. My audience will be 24-40 years old. I have looked at
other radio stations, such as Minster FM and BBC Radio York. I
found that these stations aims are within the same target
audience as Two Rivers Radio. Minster FM Two Rivers both base
a lot of there content around local issues and community events.
I have also found that a lot of the music that that Minster FM
play is targeted at a much older audience, for example they play
a lot of music from the 70s and 80s.
3. Audience
Looking at the audience of BBC Radio York, I have found they base there
content around, travel, music sport and essential issues. I have found that
these are the sort of topics that would interest 24-40 year olds. Having
looked at BBC Radio York’s website, I have found that the colour scheme
that they have used, is intended for an older target audience, they have
used very relaxed colours, purple, dark blue/grey and white. I have also
found the presenters on BBC Radio York, are much, than say those of
Radio 1.
4. Audience
Looking at Two Rivers Radio’s audience in more detail, I have found that they
have a lot of shows based on many different topics, and some community issues,
such as Ask York, LGBT Hour, and Mental Health and well-being. Two Rivers
Radio is very much in-tune with the local community of York. When I come to
produce my product for Two Rivers Radio, I will bare there target audience in
mind. Below you can see some of the shows that are featured on Two Rivers
Radio.
