The Plain Dealer Kendra Maduray
Question Two
Film Distribution
Film distributors are very
important in the film
industry. They are
important for the setting,
marketing, release date
and have the bid
decisions of allowing a
film to be shown in
cinemas. The distribution
and production differfrom
one and other. A
productioncompany
helps create the film’s
budgeting, scheduling,
scripting, casting and
more. It looks over the
film idea. A studio or
productioncompany have
to make a licensing
agreement with
distribution company.
This is done either by a
sales agent of the studio.
The film company plan a
distribution plan. This
plan involves how and
when the film will be
release and a market
research to find an
audience. The distribution
organises an event and
screens the film to
buyers, this is only done if
the distribution company
doesn't already have a
their own chain of
cinemas.
Stuart Hall: I understand
how Stuart Hall explored
how people have read
media texts. He says that
the audience were not
passive but active. An
active audience interact
with the text to create
meaning and a passive
audience are said to
have an effectfrom
the text. What is my distribution
plan?
I would like to distribute my
film to independent film. I
have chosenindependent
film as I believe it will be a
better way to target and
connect with my audience.
The experience of watching
the film on a big screenin a
dark film will contribute to
my film genre as the
atmosphere will be
mysterious and dark. I am
going to receive feedback
from my audience the their
thoughts about the film and
their experience. This
allows me to understand
what I did right and what I
could improve when I make
another film. I will be using
social media, magazines
and ads on the television to
advertise my film. This is
the best way to promote my
film as majority of people in
this world use social media
and watch tv.
How the Staurt Hall
Theory relates to my film
The statement in which
Stuart Hall says. I would
classify my audience as a
passive audience. I think it
might be safe to say that
most of my audience will
not be an active audience. I
do no think they will be able
to develop their own ideas
based on their life
experiences. They cant do
this based on the situation
the characters are in.
Although, the target
audience of my film
opening do share they
same age as the lead
characters. The opening is
set in todays world/life, and
they also what they might
relate to the characters
most is the emotionand
feelings the main
characters feel to and
extent.
