CRITICAL REFLECTION 2
How does your product engage with audiences and
how would it be distributed as a real media text?
2. My product engages with audiences by allowing
them to sympathise and identify themselves with
my character. It can be distributed over all forms
of media and online platforms
3. HOW DOSE MY FILM ENGAGE
WITH AUDIENCES
My film Is a teen drama with an element of social realism, it has a similar feel to
kidulthood, Top boy and ill manors. It presents the harsh reality of growing up in
London and the way in which one boy goes about escaping his day to day grind.
My film engages with audiences who can understand the issues and problems
that a boy who’s living a life like this would be going though. The film showcases
dark side of growing up in modern-day London and how it is
Challenging enough to force this young man to have to find a
type of escape so that he isn’t stuck in his day to day struggle.
This helps to engage with audiences as it shows a very real
struggle that effects a lot of people and shows how significant
lifestyle is. This presents to the audience the challenges faced by
4. HOW MY CHARACTER
ENGAGES WITH AUDIENCES
My main character in the film has grown up in a harsh environment and is still living a
treacherous live, of which he is trying to escape. His only from of escape from his dark
reality is through music which is his main passion.
The dark and gloomy life portrayed by the character is a reality for many people in this
country and around the world. The purpose of this is to allow the audience to sympathies
and identify with the character and his lifestyle, many people live a similar lifestyle and can
sympathise from personal experience growing up in their social background. By having the
characters life shown especially intimate moments such as when he is making music helps
the audience to build up a relationship with the character becoming attached and feeling
genuine sympathy and emotions for the character.
The way in which the character escapes from reality through music is another way how the
audience can identify with him. People living a challenging life will sympathise with this
characters escape from his reality as they will either compare his method of escaping to
there’s or they will take on board that they can find a way to escape what they are going
through.
5. WHAT IS A DISTRIBUTOR
A Distributor is where a studio or independent investor
purchases rights to a film. They then distribute the film to
loads of screening and prospective buyers, eventually
sending the film off to cinemas around the world.
The overall job of a distributor is making a movie available
for the audience
7. MAJOR DISTRIBUTORS
EXAMPLES:
PARAMOUNT PICTURES
UNIVERSAL STUDIOS
SONY PICTURES
WARNER BROS PICTURES
20TH CENTUREY FOX
Major film distributors control the majority of the film industry
and only release blockbuster movies that are guaranteed to
make money back off. They target a wide audience and create
safe films in order to make sure they make there money back
A major distributor would not choose to
distribute my film as it is not a classic genre of
which they distribute and they may be worried
that it will not guarantee them there money back
due to bad numbers of viewing
Major distributors tend to have a very large budget as they are
funded by major multi media conglomerates. Due to this
funding they are able to maintain an A-list cast in most films,
have a huge studio space and rare locations and have a very
specific and detailed mise en sen
8. INDIE DISTRIBUTORS
Indie distributors tend to invest in and distribute more artistic and conceptual peaces rather
than block buster type major distributor films. Indie distributors often work to help small
independent movie makers in getting there film out there and on a platform if they think that
it is worth it.
Indie distributors do not have a lot of funding and tend to rely on funday from various other
sponsors who invest in the separate projects.
An indie distributor could easily be interested in my film as it is a small teen dram created by
an independent movie maker. As my film is not a very big scale big budget film it applies to
indy distributors even more and would make it appealing for one of them.

9. OTHER OPTIONS
In the modern day there are other options
to distributors as there are new forms of
media which are online streaming platform
who make money off streams and control
what goes on there site
