• 20 Students: 12 girls & 8 boys
• 2 African American- 1 hispanic- 17 caucasian
• 2 students with mild forms of ADHD
• First Day: Question knowledge prior
• Second Day: Ask what is the Appalachian Trail
• Third Day: Recite the Appalachian Trail map
• Fourth Day: Review articles about Appalachian Trail
3. Main Objective
Students will be able to
explain and describe the
Appalachian trail by
drawing, reading articles,
watching documentaries,
and “hiking” the path of
the trail with 100%
accuracy by the end of
the week.
4. Day Plan: Day 1
• Begin the class with question prior knowledge. Use the
class Facebook page to have to children take a poll.
• Describe what the trail is using online wikipedia
• Show the map of the trail using Google.
• Zello as a homework discussion board. Take one hour to
give students the opportunity to discuss what was
learned in class and ask questions. 7pm-8pm
5. Day Plan: Day 2
• Review what was learned in Day 1 with a Facebook
poll.
• Give students an example of what the trail looks
like with a self made poster
• Use blogger to show the states on the trail
• Students use digital imaging to create a map of the
trail
6. Day Plan: Day 3
• Review the trail using Facebook poll
• Read Blog of the hikers
• Follow one hiker of the trail of Twitter
• Comment to one of their posts about the trail
7. Day Plan: Day 4
• Watch documentary on Youtube of those who have
hiked the trail
• Review the Arts & Bots video as an example
• Allow students to make their own robot
representing the Appalachian Trail
8. Day Plan: Day 5
• Before discussion, have class go on the blogger
provided and review. Comment on anything the have
questions on.
• Review the poster of the map of the trail
• Watch Youtube video on what hiker’s necessities
• Use the maps the students made of the trail and
“Hike” the AT through the school
