ASSURE Assignment
A
I am teaching is a first grade classroom. The room is Special Ed and there are 7 students
that have a mild to severe case of ADHD. This means that I have to keep the students constantly
active with an activity or their minds will romp. Along with the disabilities, 70% of my students
are white, 20% are African American, and 10% are Latino. Therefore, I have to make sure my
students understand all the terminology because of their age and different language.
S
My students will be able to label the months of the year by group discussion, spelling, and
drawing pictures by the end of 2 weeks with 100% accuracy.
S
For my activities, I will need to obtain a few supplies. The group discussion will require a
SmartBoard. Next is the spelling activity where we will need a white board, dry erase markers,
paper, and pencils. For the pictures, the children will need the computer and powerpoint. To
print them, we will use the office printing facilities.

My students need to gain full knowledge of the months of the year. To do so, they need to be
experienced to the subject in as many different forms as possible. The first activity I will be
doing is a group discussion. I will look up a calendar that has every month on the internet and
project it to the Smartboard. This will be the introduction to every month. As I present them, I
will have the kids recite each one and tell me something they know about them. Since 10% of
my students are Latino, I will allow them to present the class with how to say the months in
there language. With a side by side comparison, with will put all multicultural forms of the
months on the Smartboard. Next we will move onto spelling part of the lesson. I will move to
my white board. For each month, I will pronounce the title out loud. The children will one by
one guess letters, playing a game of Hangman. As I am doing this, the kids will write the words
on a sheet of paper so they can take them home to study. The last activity will be the kids
making their own class calendar. We will vote on a topic for each month and together the kids
will make a design for each one. They will then divid up into groups and design the themes on
the computers. Once this is completed, we will take them to the office and print them out. The
calendar will be displayed in the classroom.
R
In the first activity I will check comprehension when asking them to recite the words and to tell
me something important in that month. The second activity will show learning by asking the
students how to spell the word without them looking at their papers. In the last activity, they
3. will be able to show their knowledge by telling me all twelve months and being able to put the
calendar in the correct order.
E
I will evaluate the children’s understanding at each moment of instruction by having them
occasionally restate the months to me. If they continuously understand the material, we will
stay on target with the lessons. If the students are not understanding, I will have them do a few
separate lessons like a video or use hand signals for comprehension.
