2. Hazard #1
Alcohol/Drugs - Risk factor of 2
Moderate risk - Very Unlikely
Description This risk could arise as a large chunk of our filming is
based in the countryside. 2 of our locations are surrounded by
woodland. Millington Woods and the Wilberfoss fields are both
large green areas. Animals and insects are automatically going to be
an issue when you are filming in these areas. We are exposing
ourselves to this environment through filming so we need to be
aware of these risks and the possibility of harm from the animals,
insects etc. that could be surrounding us.
Person(s) exposed All group members and actors (cast/crew) will
be exposed due to the fact we will all be surrounded in this location.
We will be presenting no risk to other members of the public due to
the fact we are including no animals/insects in our filming process.
Action to take Making sure we are all aware of our surroundings.
Avoiding any areas we feel could be unsafe or present a hazard.
Being more attentive than usual due to the setting/locations we are
in.
Person/company responsible for action The crew and cast alone
are responsible for action. We need to solely be responsible when in
an environment such as the countryside. Pet owners also will be
responsible for action, only if a hazardous situation arises.
Description This risk is simply due to the fact we are
filming some of our scenes in a pub. This setting creates an
immediate hazard due to the consumption of alcohol in
pubs and the number of people with alcohol we could
encounter under the influence of alcohol. This risk is also
slightly heightened due to the number of underage actors
and group members we have involved.
Person(s) exposed All group members and actors
(cast/crew) will be exposed due to the fact we will all be
around the pub location. We will present no risk to the
public or the pub itself due to the fact we will not be
consuming any alcohol on the premises.
Action to take Making sure we all manage ourselves in a
manner which will not expose us to any risks. Actions such
as keeping ourselves to ourselves and trying to film scenes
in certain quieter areas will prevent us from any risks. This
could be through filming outside the pub.
Person/company responsible for action Us crew members
will be responsible for action as well as the pub involved if
we choose to film scenes inside the premises.
Hazard #2
Animals/Insects - Risk factor of 2
Low risk – Unlikely
3. Hazard #3
Heat/Cold/Extreme weather -
Risk factor of 1
Low risk - Very Unlikely
Description This risk would arise in
everyday life due to the un-expectancy
of the weather and the temperature.
Person(s) exposed All group
members and actors (cast/crew) and
the public will be exposed to the
weather.
Action to take Making sure we all
check forecasts etc. to make sure we
are dressed and have the equipment
prepared the best it could be for the
given situation. Ensuring cast are
looked after and not made to feel
uncomfortable at the extent of the
weather for filming.
Person/company responsible for
action Us crew members will be
responsible for action as well as the
cast members.
Hazard #4
Laser/strobe affects - Risk
factor of 1
Low risk - Very Unlikely
Description This risk could arise whilst we
are filming our live performance feature.
Strobe lights/bright lights will be used in
the actors/band members performance.
Person(s) exposed All cast and crew
present for the live performance scenes
will be exposed.
Action to take Making sure we know of
any persons who have any direct problems
through strobe/bright lighting. Making
sure that none of the cast are
dazzled/harmed whilst filming or
performing.
Person/company responsible for action
Us crew members will be responsible for
ensuring the cast members are unharmed
as well as the cast members making us
aware of any issues they have with
strobe/bright lighting.
Hazard #5
Materials (glass, non-fire
retardant set materials) - Risk
factor of 1
Low risk - Very Unlikely
Description This risk is present as
working with technology e.g. cameras
can produce risks in terms of materials
such as fires etc. Certain clothing can
also be flammable.
Person(s) exposed All cast and crew
are exposed to these risks. The
public/property can also be harmed as
a result of the extreme case of fire
through the materials used/worn.
Action to take No real action needs to
be taken as a fire etc. is not likely to
arise due to the fact we won’t be
coming into contact with any fire. In
certain locations, such as the pub, it’s
essential we look out for flammables.
Person/company responsible for
action All cast/crew members present
4. Hazard #6
Night operation- Risk factor of 1
Low risk - Very Unlikely
Description This risk is simply due to the fact we will be filming a number of
our scenes at night, in the dark. These scenes will be filmed from around
5pm-8pm. Although this is not late, during the time frame we are planning to
film in, it turns to a pitch black sky at around 5-5.30pm. These night time
scenes are in York City Centre at the Christmas market and through the
streets of York, so there will be, a lot of Christmas and pub/shop lights in the
streets.
Person(s) exposed All group members and actors (cast/crew) will be
exposed due to the fact we will all be surrounded by the dark and working
together at night. Crew members are mainly exposed due to the fact we will
be focusing on the filming and operating of equipment therefore we will not
be as aware of our surroundings as we necessarily would during the day. The
cast members also have a similar issue as they will be focusing on acting.
Action to take Making sure we are extra aware of our surroundings.
Ensuring we have cast/crew members looking out for certain issues usually
presented in a nigh time environment, such as unseen cyclists. Managing our
timings so we are not filming to late in the night, as stated above the wrap up
time will be around 8pm, which is a reasonable time to stop filming.
Person/company responsible for action All group members (cast/crew)
are exposed to this risk as we will all be present in the night environment.
Hazard #7
Public/crowds - Risk factor of 1
Low risk - Very Unlikely
Description This risk is a given when we are
filming, specifically in York City Centre. The
Christmas market is known as being a busy
environment. The pub we will be filming in is
certain to have customers/the public present.
Person(s) exposed All group members
(cast/crew) present during these locations will
be exposed to the risk of overcrowding and the
public. The time we are filming means we
aren’t as exposed as much as through the day.
Action to take Keeping out of the way of
members of the public and keeping a distance
from the large crowds of people there. Being
extra careful and aware of our surroundings.
Avoiding disrupting other members of the
public, for example, not filming anywhere near
customers sat/stood in the pub location.
Person/company responsible for action Us
crew members will be responsible for action as
well as the cast members.
