GENRE
My magazine is going to be mainly based around chart
music as I am wanting to aim my magazine at younger
people from around the age of 18-30 people who listen
to radio stations like Radio one and Capital FM. By
choosing chart music it gives me a wide variation of
artists that I can include in my magazine as well as being
able to bring in a wider audience as it reaches out to a lot
more people than just one specific genre of music like
rock or punk. By using this genre it brings in more people
than one specific genre, people of different ethnicity and
gender as the genre opens up to many different types of
genres.
By using chart music as the genre of my magazine, it also
has no gender boundaries, opening it up to everyone. It
also will follow a neutral colour scheme to emphasise
how gender neutral the magazine is.
FREQUENCY OF PUBLICATION
My magazine will have a new issue every month, but you
will still be able to purchase recent magazines from two
months prior to the most recent issue. I have decide to
release a copy monthly because due to my research found
through my survey most of the partakers preferred to buy
a copy monthly rather than weekly. I also prefer this
because the money saved by not publishing so many
magazines can be used to later on improve the magazine
itself for example the quality of the issues and the
rewards/prizes could be improved to ones of a higher
price/value. A down side to realising a new copy monthly
will be covering stories that have already been published
by other magazines but could also be an advantage with
being able to conclude the whole story not just having
separate parts of the story released weekly.
ONE EVERY MONTH
MAGAZINE NAME IDEAS:
REPLAY: the reason I chose this was because the music we will be
advertising will be chart music, which is the type of music that our
readers will constantly want to replay and listen to again and again.
With it just been one word its simple and easy to remember and the
word replay is something that comes to mind when listening to a good
song and we want our readers to constantly re-read the magazine as
well like a replay. Font-franklin gothic.
Sptze der Charts!: it means ‘top of the charts’ in German, this gives
of a multicultural vibe to the magazine and welcomes other languages
to the read the magazine which is what we hopefully want to achieve
later on in the career of the magazine. The title is very long so might be
hard to remember or recite with it being in an other language. Font-
Algerian.
BANGERZ: this title is a common name that the younger generation
calls ‘good songs’ so the name is very common and can be easily
translated. And it shows the magazine has good music hopefully
attracting a bigger audience of the younger generation with us being a
well known name for good music. Font-gill sans ultra bold.
SAMPLE IMAGES
One of the two styles of photo-shoot images that I like, it is in natural environment not a studio so it
gives it a less-formal look and feel towards it. It also makes it more personal as it is not so formal and
a lot more real it lets the audience get to know the artist a lot more as it is not so structured. This
kind of image also lets the artist be themselves not in a structured position as it is in a free
environment.
The other style is in a studio which in my opinion is a lot more formalised than one in the natural
environment. The poses are a lot more posed and a lot less personal in my opinion but they do leave the
magazine with a clean crisp look making it seem more professional. You can also customize these kinds of
images to make them more of the artists own image to present there personality to the readers.
The final image I might be using is one from the live tours, this can prove to the audience what the
artists is all about and what they do to entertain the audience and how they are different. You could
also link this with a puff with exclusive tickets to one of there shows which can also be advertisement
for the artist.
SAMPLE FRONT COVERS
I chose these covers as
samples because they
are the same sort of
style that I am wanting
my magazine to have,
they each have a
serious look. I like how
the NME and Q
magazine have used
the red and contrasted
it with the background
of the picture and links
in with the colour
scheme of the
magazines.
I like the fact that Q magazine
has the plugs along the top of
the magazine and I want to do
that along the top of my
magazine. I also like the layout
of all three magazines they all
read in columns and that will
therefore make it easier for
my readers to read, especially
with the change of text size
acting as plugs to draw the
readers attention to each part
of the cover.
DUMMY CONTENTS PAGE
I like this layout for my
contents page because you
get extra information which
can act as plugs to make the
reader turn to that specific
page. There is also images
available for the reader to see
which as well as the extra
content can also act as a
visual plug toward the reader.
The backing colour for
the magazine will be a
pale grey which will
contrast with the
brightness of the red
which will be used for
the word contents and
the numbers. The
colours are also gender
neutral meaning there
are no gender divisions.
The writing will be black
for the rest of the content
writing this adds a
sophisticated yet
dangerous contrast with
the other colours that I
have selected for my
theme.
DOUBLE PAGE SPREAD PLAN
The colour scheme will
be the same as the
contents page, the
layout of the magazine
is easy to read and
understand as it is read
from top to bottom and
the content is read from
left to right in small
columns. The images
will be a reasonable size
to grab the attention of
the reader visually.
Throughout the content
there will be some
plugs which will be in a
larger font than the rest
of the writing.
The images will be
used to take up the
whole of the page
including behind
the text but will be
toned down
colours not to
make it confusing
for the reader. This
kind of image gives
the reader visual
pleasure as well as
not distracting
them from there
reading.
PRICE OF MAGAZINE AND
SUBSCRIPTION
• I would start of the price of my magazine at around probably £2.20 making it easily
affordable to everyone. Depending on how well the magazine does and how many
readers we pick up throughout our time of being a magazine, the price for REPLAY
might rise only to the extent of £4.20 because the price of publication would grow
depending on how many copies we need to produce.
• For subscriptions we will probably charge around £7.00 a month for monthly
subscriptions which is quite affordable for an online magazine plus you get added
extras if you are subscribed to our magazine on an online basis. I don’t think this will
go up if the numbers rise because according to my research 75% of the participants
preferred to buy the actual paper copy.
