Dear Sir / Madam
I am writing in application of the position Store Manager, because I have the experience,
knowledge and enthusiasm you require.
I have 25 years retail experience, I am used to working autonomously with a lot of
responsibility, and I have very high work standards.
My career in retail began with Big W with the set up of the Campbelltown store. From that
time I developed an enthusiasm for the retail environment.
After a move to Victoria I worked for Coles and quickly progressed from Night Filler to
Night Fill Manager/Orderer as a direct result of my excellent work ethic, motivational skills
and attention to detail.
Soon after, I moved back to NSW and into Woolworths working my way up to Grocery
Manager where I was responsible for the planning and building of promotional displays
on a weekly basis, planograms, store presentations and the staff roster. Whilst at the St
Clair store performing Assistant Manager duties, I was recruited by the Area Manager to
what was unofficially a Grocery Trouble Shooter, travelling all over Western Sydney to
oversee, assist and guide various Grocery Managers to comply with and maintain the
Woolworths standards. I also wrote the Grocery Manual (overseen by a senior manager
and under direct instruction from the Area Manager). Following this I became
Impact/Assistant Manager, performing Store Manager reliefs throughout western Sydney
and then I moved into store management.
During my time in Coles and Woolworths, I was also involved in many refits/ refurbs,
store setup and openings.
In 1998 I left Woolworths to assist in my own business. This experience, along with the
roles I have held since (listed in my CV) have required me to apply many of the skills I
acquired in my retail career. For example, I have continued to manage budgets,
forecasts, write and implements plans, and supervise and motivate staff.
After a successful career out of the retail industry I now wish to return to the retail
environment I have missed and employ the skills and knowledge I have acquired over my
career. I know that I can deliver improvements to your stores and look forward to
discussing these with you at interview.
Yours sincerely
Karen Morris
