The habitat of the
living
Everything that surrounds
living things and helps them
in growth and development
is called Environment.
Both living and non living
things are a part of the
environment
Environ - Surround
Introduction
Habitat
The place where an
animal lives or exists is
known as it's Habitat.
There are many types of
habitats and many
things in each habitat.
Components of habitats
Types of Habitats
Terrestrial Habitat
The land habitats is called as
terrestrial habitat.
It consists of many types of
sub divisions in it.
Let's see the sub divisions
Forest
The habitat in which there
are many trees it is a forest
habitat. It consists of dense
forests.It has a normal
climate.
Nearly 80% of the animals
live in this habitats.
Animals like
monkeys,orangutans live
here
Desert
The places which recieve
very little water is called
desert habitats. It is the
place where the least living
organisms live. It has a
very hot climate in days
and very cool climate in
nights.
Animals like camels and
rattlesnakes live there.
Grassland
Grasslands recieve a little
more rain compared to
deserts,but less than
forests. It is a dry place
and more grass grows
there because grass only
consumes little water to
grow but it has very tall
grass that nearly it grows
to 150 cm height.
Animals like deer and lion
live there
Mountain
Mountains have a little
less wildlife compared to
forests but more wildlife
compared to grasslands. It
has a cold climate. To
withstand the coldness we
should have thick coat.
Animals like yak and snow
wolf live here.
Aquatic habitat
The water habitats are
called aquatic habitats.
It consists of many types of
sub divisions in it.
Let's see the sub divisions.
Marine
The saline habitats like sea
and oceans is marine
habitats. It is very big and
many types of organisms
live there. And it very deep.
Animals like fish and
sharks live there.
Freshwater habitats
The habitats in which fresh
water and non salty water are
present is called freshwater
habitats. Places like river
,lakes and wetland are
freshwater habitats.
Animals and like fish and crab
live here.
Adaptations
Adaptations
● The features that enable an animal to live
in a place with comfort is called as
Adaptations
● Each type of animal has an unique
adaptations according to the place they
live.
Terrestrial
Adaptations
Desert animals
● They have a layer of fat
known as blubber. They
store food in it.
● Big animals like camel
have very big humps to
store water.
● Small animals consume
very little water to live.
● Most of the animals
have thick eyelashes to
withstand sandstorms.
Desert plants
● Most of the plants
have leaves reduced to
thorns , so that they
do not loose water in
transpiration
● They have deep roots
so that they can get
water.
● They have strong
stems to withstand the
harsh winds in night
Mountain animals
● They have thick skin
to withstand the
coldness.
● They have a blubber
under their skin to get
warmth.
● Most of the animals
have strong limbs so
that they can easily
climb on rocks.
Mountain plants
● Most of them are cone
shaped so that snow
will slide down easily.
● They have a different
type of leaf that it is
very tilted so that
snow doesn't stay on
the leaves.
Grasslands and forest
animals
There are two subdivisions
in this
1. Predator :
It is the animals which
hunts other animals.
2. Prey :
They animals that is
being hunted by the
predator.
Adaptations of Predator
● Predators have strong
and sharp teeth to bite
the prey easily.
● They have strong
limbs so that they can
jump on the prey and
attack them.
● Animals like lion ,
leapord and tiger are
some predators.
Adaptations of prey
● These animals have
powerful legs to run fast
and escape from the
predator.
● Camouflage: It
means to blend with the
colour of the background
.Many of the animals has
this feature.
● Animals like sheep,deer
come under this category
Grasslands and forest
plants
● The only plant growes
there is grass.
● The grass that grows
there has strong roots
to withstand storms
and droughts.
● They have narrow
leaves which doesn't
need so much water.
Aquatic
adaptations
Freshwater animals
● Animals in rivers and
streams have suction
pads so that in the
strong waves of the
river , they can stick
on to the rocks in
water.
● Most of the animals
have small teeth to eat
small animals like
shrimps and prawn
Freshwater plants
● All plants on the
surface have light
weight leaves so it can
float on the surface.
● Underwater plants
have strong roots so
they can withstand
strong waves.
● The plants in the
surface have air filled
in the stems.
Marine animals
● The animals in
deepwater have gills
so that they can
breathe in deepwater.
● The animals that do
not have gills have
special breathing parts
like blowholes in their
heads.
● The animals have
streamlined bodies to
swim easily
Marine plants
● The pants under water
like corals have
attractive colors so
that they can attract
fish and catch them to
eat it.
● They have very thick
stems to withstand the
water pressure.
Recap
● Habitat - The place where an living organism lives.
● Terrestrial Habitat - The habitats on land are known as terrestrial habitats. There
are 4 types of terrestrial habitats, those are a)
Forests
b)Mountains
c)Desserts
d ) Grasslands
● Aquatic Habitats
a) Marine
b) Freshwater
Recap
● Adaptations
differ for each
animal.
● Adaptations
helps an animal
to live easily.
