Starfire Network Technician - Torrance, CA
Operations and maintenance of the communications and navigation equipment used in the StarFire
network (a global system for the distribution of signals via geostationary satellite); including Cisco
routers, hubs, terminal adapters, PC's, GPS receivers, chokering antennas, frame relay lines, T1
lines, ISDN lines, VSAT links, and other communication links and various tcp/ip applications. I
built/maintained PC's, both windows and LINUX. I was the single point of contact for all Telco
related network problems. I troubleshot/repaired network hardware problems; and
built/edited/modified router access lists, GPS software services, and batch files. While
troubleshooting/isolating faults with our plotting/mapping scripts, I edited visual basic code. I was
in charge of locating new locations for reference sites, finding local co-locators and ISP's, organizing
shipment of all materials (including international), building/commissioning/turning up the reference
sites, and providing yearly maintenance to reference sites. I helped set up our test lab and also
helped move it when we changed locations. I also managed our spare parts inventory, kept track of
all parts worldwide, and ordered new parts as needed.
