11. Pre-production
• What are you making?
• I’ll be making an action thriller trailer. Such a trailer will include basic story and characters with
exciting scenes to make the action part more evident. There will be dark themes involved such as
blood and violence.
• Why?
• The key of this movie as a whole is to emphasise that street fighting isn’t upholding the point of
traditional martial arts. But also that martial arts are perhaps not always most effective when
honour is upheld.
• Who is it for?
• It’s for people who like drama as well as action with some dark themes. People who are interested in
martial arts may perhaps enjoy some of the fight scenes. It’ll be aimed at people ages 16 – 30. A
broad enough age range to be able to flexibly input many different themes without offending
immature audiences
• Where will it appear/on what?
• Most likely it’ll appear on Netflix as it’s one of the most vastly used streaming media in the world
and does a great job of advertising and recommending certain genres to people who enjoy titles
similar to it. So people who are likely to enjoy Action Thrillers will run into this trailer.
Reflection:
14. https://youtu.be/2PaWxWqJ96I - Oblivion unreleased soundtrack (maybe)
Very good intro for a voice over – character soliloquizing perhaps about the events to
follow in the movie – could be done using any sort of audio recorder on phone and copied
into the adobe premier pro along with the footage and soundtrack.
A two-part soundtrack: There’s a split in the soundtracks that make it evidently different.
A mid-point where I could introduce a warmer palette with all of the action scenes.
There are areas with inputted sound effects such as blade swings which I can take
advantage of in the action/combat scenes.
This track is an unreleased soundtrack so I MAY be copyright free but I will have to look
further into it and if need be, I’ll ask the composer if I’ll be allowed to use it for the project
if I decide to use it.
There are points in this soundtrack I could input jump scares and wording of characters
that aim to put the audience on edge.
Music Track 1
16. Music Track 3
https://youtu.be/dAdKOHG12fI - Aggressive Suspenseful Cinematic Music
This piece is similar to Music Track two. It’s slow and bassy intro can be used to create
suspense. The intro ticks like a clock which I could use as an element in my trailer. Ticking of a
clock like time is running out.
The track picks up with some drum and bass and moves along at a slow and steady pace,
mood rises and stays there. For this I could film the action scenes, still sticking to the warm in
action color-palette.
The track is very much horror-action which is what I’m going for. There’s nothing complex
about it other than the inputted sound effects to take the audience off-guard to cause jump
scares.
Talking can be done inbetween cresendos in the score. Once the script is written, I’ll have it
revolve around the music.
18. Equipment/props:
Fake blood: Easy enough to make a mixture – Dr Pepper and CocaCola tic tacs will
make camera worthy blood effects.
Camera stabilizer: I’ll need a good stabilizer so that footage isn’t rocky. I’ll have
hand-held shots during action scenes to have the audience more drawn in and
immersed into the scenes.
Masks: Characters will be wearing full face masks – a part of the plot and also means
actors can wear facemasks on set to make shooting safer whilst ALSO broadening my
cast to the maximum.
Clothing: Characters will be wearing dark clothing to be suited to the theme. The
main character will be wearing a leather jacket and the others, black hoodies and
perhaps bullet proof vests. Secondary protagonist will also be wearing black-casual
clothing.
21. Locations:
- 8 Fossway – Very good isolated spot with a view for camera shots from the
bridge. Very good for conversation scenes – may have to voice over.
Can be used in
the intro to match
the calm music
intro of the music
score.
- Sefton avenue – Well hidden natural pathway that leads to an opening where I
can film action scenes without getting in the way of anyone.
Lots of dead trees,
very good dystopian
scene to be set.
