2. 1. Audience research:
Hearst do not own any magazines targeted
at the same audience(16-25). Sensing a
gap in the market. However, there are
many teen magazines produced by others
such a, Teen Vogue and Seventeen.
2. Genre research:
At its basics, the audience would expect a main image, with the masthead at the top of the page
being the largest font. The colours used would connote its target audience such as pink being
associated with femininity. With font types being either large depending on their prevalence and the
font type itself to further help this such as being sans-serif.
3. 3. Graphic elements:
4. House style:
The image and selected font colour would create a colour scheme. There are graphic elements expected
these are the masthead, coverlines and the main image. There is also the price and barcode with a further
possible flash (discount).
To create a coherent house style the contents and cover have to have a consistent colour scheme and font
while the same premise can also be applied to the link between the magazine and website.
Cover:
Contents:
It would be expected to have a main image along with the masthead. The date would also likely be
present, perhaps located near the masthead. It would also include a contents sections, cover
features and likely a footer.
Website:
The website would need to feature the headings along with the main image and a leading title with an
option of subscription to likely be present. The website will also feature legal information such as the
copyright notice but also social media links.
