example of Journal Text
1. Thursday, July 28th
2017
It was a sunny cool morning in Surabaya. It was the 10th
of the
school days. That day, the first lesson was English. I was very excited. It
was my first time to be St. Louis 1 student. The fact is, it was my first
time having English since my National Exam on May. However, I got only 76
in that exam.
At 06.25 AM, the morning prayer was started. Then, a medium-aged
woman wearing glasses came into my class. She was Ma'am Yenny. She
teaches us until the next academic year. she was one of some new teachers
in my school.
After the morning prayer and the announcement finished, she
started the lesson. Actually, the introduction wasn't needed because she
had told us about it the previous Monday. Due to the day was Thursday, so
the lesson was “Lintas Minat.”
Ma'am Yenny taught us about Journal. Journal is a record of our
thoughts about learning within a lesson. It has a similarity with diary, but
journal is more specific. Everything can be written in journal. At the same
time, Ma'am Yenny taught us about the format and the characteristics of
journal. We could understand what she said. After that, she told us to look
on page 5. There was an example of a journal. We read and analyzed it
carefully. After that, she told us to do the exercise on page 6-7
On the exercise, the students were asked to find the reflective
parts. It was a difficult exercise, for us. We asked and asked to Ma'am
Yenny. She answered it patiently. She explained that reflective part is the
result of someone thoughts, or in Indonesia we called it as “Gagasan
Pokok”. She also helped us to find and understand it. 5 min......10 min......,
She told us “ Let's discuss it together.” We could reckon our possible
answer and analyze each paragraph together. Some of them were correct
and some of them, of course, wrong. In 10 minutes, we could find all
correct answers. Finding a reflective part is not as easy as we thought.
But, we had to have more practice by reading a journal and trying to find
the reflective parts.
2. Then, she told us to do the next exercise. Suddenly, the bell rang. In
a few seconds, half of class had gone. They had already at outside of the
class (peace ma'am, it didn't mean that we hate English. We love English as
much as we love our selves, but that time we were very hungry). Ma'am
Yenny said goodbye to us who still in the class and she left our class.
Therefore, the next exercise would be our homework. YES!!!. It was good
news for all students, however, I still couldn't do that exercise. Why?
That exercise asked us to find the interesting facts, not reflection parts.
My goodness.
