1. MORE THAN YOU IMAGINE
May 2016
To Whom it May Concern:
I am writing this letter of recommendation in support of James Shelby. I am writing to
you for the purpose of recommending him for a position as an elementary education and/or
special education teacher.
During the spring semester of 2016, I supervised his special education student teaching at
Mohawk Elementary school in Lawrence County, Pennsylvania. In a primary grades learning
support classroom, he successfully demonstrated the ability to create a positive classroom
climate and to develop and deliver thorough, objective-driven, engaging lessons. James worked
hard to address all suggestions by the cooperating teacher and myself, which was evident by his
growth as a professional over his student teacher placement. I also taught his elementary
mathematics methods course, inclusive special education course, and he was one of my
preservice teacher volunteers at New Wilmington Elementary School Family Math Night in
Lawrence County, Pennsylvania. James’ efforts in these experiences reflect his desire to be a
teacher, as he turned in all assignments in a timely manner and met all course requirements.
James possesses the knowledge, pedagogical skill, and professional attitudes necessary to begin
his teaching career. He is a personable young man who enjoys being involved in his community.
This was exemplified during his student teaching experience by his involvement in the after
school play and his involvement as a member of the Westminster College men’s baseball team.
James exemplifies the qualities that I believe make a passionate and devoted teacher. He
possesses an engaging personality, which combined, with his knowledge and skills make him a
qualified candidate.
I recommend James Shelby to you and would be pleased to personally discuss his
candidacy. Please feel free to contact me anytime at lynchsd@westminster.edu, or at

Sincerely,
Sararose Lynch
