Dear Sir/Madame:
I am writing this letter on behalf of Mr. Clinton Vicks. I worked with Mr. Vicks
during the 2006-2007 academic year as his teacher-mentor and adjunct faculty
instructor at Mercy College’s New Teacher Residency Program.
As his mentor, I have watched Mr. Vicks develop as a beginning teacher,
changing from an inexperienced new teacher into a competent, self-confident,
knowledgeable teacher. I must say that he is one of the most unusual and
talented new teachers I’ve encountered as a teacher-mentor. His self-assured
classroom style enables him to work extremely well with students who have
learning disabilities, often accompanied by behavioral issues. His classroom
management skills are excellent, and his teaching style helps students with
learning disabilities master much of the material he presents. His calm,
reassuring manner helps his students focus on the work at hand. He truly has
that “teacher presence” that all effective teachers either have at the outset or
develop through experience. Mr. Vicks had that presence from the first day of
school. It came as no surprise to me that he was voted Teacher of the Year.
As his adjunct instructor at Mercy College, I had an opportunity to evaluate his
academic learning skills. He is a meticulous and organized planner and writes
very well. His assignments were submitted on time and were of excellent quality.
He participated in all group discussions and often took a leadership role.
I have every confidence that Mr. Vicks will be a valuable asset to your staff, and
highly recommend him with no reservations whatsoever. If you wish to speak
with me further, please do not hesitate to contact me via the e-mail address
above or by cellphone.
Sincerely,
