To whom it may concern:
Jacqueline Miller has been a student teacher in the school in which I teach for the past 10 weeks.
The school is a licensed private school for students identified for special education; specifically
autistic support and emotional support. The students in our school have severe behavioral and/or
cognitive needs. Jackie was first employed in the school as a BSS (Behavior Support Staff) in
two different autistic support classrooms while completing coursework before student teaching.
She then seamlessly transitioned into the student teaching role in another autistic support
classroom with 6 students.
As a Behavior Support Staff, Ms. Miller was an invaluable staff in my room. She was assigned
to several students in my classroom. She followed their behavior plans and had a good rapport
with the students. Jackie is creative and often prepared activities for the students to do, and
volunteered to complete bulletin boards for my classroom, even though that was not required of
her in that position. In my classroom, Jackie conducted verbal behavior table sessions with
students.
During her student teaching, Jackie has had the experience of using direct instruction curriculum
to teach math, reading/decoding and language skills. She also prepared and conducted social
skills lessons. She has planned all teaching sessions for the class and implemented students’
IEPs and behavior plans. Jackie has successfully demonstrated her awareness of different
learning styles and has adequately adjusted lessons to meet the varied needs of the students. Her
lessons were thoroughly prepared and implemented.
Ms. Miller possesses a positive and enthusiastic personality. She has always had a great rapport
with the students she has worked with in both of her roles. She is well dressed, articulate, and
always ready with a smile and a kind word. I have found that other teachers, therapists and staff
have accepted Jackie as a strong working member of our school and she has a positive working
relationship with each one of them.
I am confident that Jackie will be an asset to any staff that she works with. She is confident,
knowledgeable, and has skills of a seasoned teacher. I believe that she will continue to grow and
become even more effective as a teacher with further opportunities. Please feel free to contact
me for more information using the information below.
Sincerely,
Jessica Hartle
