Dear Sir or Ma’am:
I am writing because I would appreciate the opportunity to interview for an early childhood teaching
position. The diversity and breadth of my academic and work experience have prepared me well for a
classroom position. Ultimately, my years in management taught me to field every possible question and to
think very quickly on my feet- invaluable traits in an early childhood classroom!
A native of West Plains, Missouri, I attended Missouri State University in Springfield, Missouri and
earned a degree in Hospitality and Restaurant Administration. After working for several years in the fast-paced
St. Louis restaurant and casino industries, I decided to pursue my dream of teaching. I will complete my Early
Childhood Certification in May 2016 and my Master of Arts in Teaching from Missouri Baptist University in
October of 2016.
Over the years, whether in a casino or the classroom, teaching has always come naturally. During my
time at Harrah’s Casino, I was responsible for everything from employee scheduling and reviews to disciplinary
actions and catering to VIP clients. But even more importantly, in my supervisory capacity, I often found
myself advising and mentoring my employees. While my “students” were adults, they were students
nonetheless, and while at Harrah’s, I completed a one year cross training and executive mentoring program
designed to cultivate talent and provide job-enrichment opportunities to high potential managers. Even during
my time as a server at Joey B’s on the Hill, I was given the responsibility of training new servers.
Although successful in my hospitality management career, I realized that what I had always truly wanted
to do was work with small children. As such, I started working as a Building Substitute Teacher at Stix Early
Childhood Center in 2013 and moved into my current position as a full-time Teacher’s Assistant in August
2014. I engage students in the classroom teacher’s absence, develop age appropriate lesson plans, and assist the
classroom teacher with all daily duties. I am also Stix Early Childhood Center’s primary representative for the
Child and Adult Care Food Program, a position that entails working directly with staff to maintain timely
records of our Preschool Snack Program to be given weekly to St. Louis Public School District’s main office.
My tireless work ethic and a decade’s worth of teaching experience, both inside and outside of the
classroom, have equipped me with a strong set of valuable competencies that meet the district’s needs. I am
eager to combine my previous business experience with my passion for teaching and make a meaningful
contribution to young children's’ lives. I would appreciate the opportunity to interview for a teaching position
within your school district.
Respectfully,
Angela Walker
