Creating predictable outcomes
for complex shutdowns,
critical projects
and revamps
Ken Beckemeyer, Consultant/President—47 years managing
major FCCU, delayed coker revamps and turnarounds with exten-
sive experience in project management, constructability studies,
planning/scheduling, heavy lifting and rigging.
James Robinson, Consultant/Vice President—provides develop-
ment and coordination of estimating, planning and cost controls for
critical path projects. His experience lies in the three major sectors of
the petroleum industry including upstream, midstream and down-
stream.
Whitney Strickland, Consultant/Partner—began as a field crafts-
man in a refinery 32 years ago and has since managed/consulted or
invested in a number of successful petrochemical service compa-
nies including those specializing in safety, turnaround execution,
welding, tower and refractory services as well as planning, schedul-
ing and cost estimating.
Russell Hillenburg, Consultant/Partner—a third-generation
shop-fabrication business owner specializing in reactor and tower
internals. He is not only fabrication-savvy but also possesses good
project/personnel management and problem-solving skills.
Chad Beckemeyer, Consultant/Vice President—over 16 years of
experience in project management, project controls, scheduling,
estimating and field supervision of craftsman on major projects
such as FCCU and delayed coker revamps as well as major expan-
sions in other industries.

Ask yourself these questions:
Do your turnarounds meet their planned goals?
Are they taking too long and costing too much?
Are you getting less than optimal results?
Are your projects safe and event-free?
Are they competitive and predictable?
Is financial legerdemain masking the true cost?
Are lessons-learned helping make
future projects more predictable or
is knowledge being lost over time?
10
Increase your project
success rate by creating
a predictable project.
Our in-the-field and
on-the-ground experience
is an invaluable asset.
The old proverb “The early bird
catches the worm” is also true for
projects such as turnarounds, shut-
downs and revamps. The earlier
you begin, the better you prepare
and the more effort you apply—the
better the results. Realistic per-proj-
ect and overall cost estimates are
viable only when such key elements
as deliverables and constructabili-
ty issues are addressed as early as
possible. This helps to significantly
reduce the amount of rework later
in the project. Rework can be a ma-
jor source of time/cost overruns. We
help you come to the project better
prepared for better results.
Beckinson’s experience provides
an invaluable interface between
the owner and the engineering
construction firm during all phases
of your project. We help define and
prioritize the scope and review
high-level estimates. We assist in
contractor and fabricator selection
based on their history, quality and
safety records. We aid in detailed
estimate oversight and review,
planning, scheduling, logistics,
low-level cost estimating, project
scope and more. We consult during
project execution on such strategic
tasks as lifts, repairs and work-
arounds. We also assist during post
turnaround, start-up and project
closeout and we help you take les-
sons learned forward.
◆ We provide independent resources
for your core team
◆ We interface between owners and
their engineering/construction
firms
◆ FCCU, coker units and general
turnarounds, shutdowns and
revamps are our specialty
◆ Our on-the-ground experience
provides unprecedented expertise
to help prevent cost/time overruns,
resolve constructability/fit-up
mishaps in advance and keep
re-work at a minimum
◆ We help make your project more
predictable through industry best
practices in safety, quality and
efficiency
Despite over a century of know-how,
increased efficiencies and decades
of technical advances, the overall
performance for today’s complex
turnarounds is unnecessarily incon-
sistent. By making optimum use of
Beckinson’s construction knowledge
and experience throughout your
project’s planning, design, procure-
ment and field operations phases,
you can achieve more predictable
results. We assist your key people
with the following:
n FCCU Projects
n Coker Projects
n Maintenance Projects
n General Turnarounds
We offer a selection of quality
services individualized throughout
several or all of our many services:
n Consulting
