2. “Science is the very texture of life
without which our modern world
would vanish. It is science alone
that could solve the problem of
hunger and poverty, of insanitation
and illiteracy, of superstition, and
custom and tradition of vast
resources coming to waste of rich
country inhabited by starving
people”
-Pandit Jawaharlal Nehru
3. AND THE POSITION OF INDIA IS….
no. of patents registered
India ranks 30th in the world for its
Research and Development
India ranks 43rd in the world for Gross
Expenditure on R&D
India ranks 90th in the world for its
expenditure on education
India ranks 94th in the world in its
tertiary enrollment rate
The ratio of Post Graduate students to
Graduate Students is fairly low about

4. CHALLENGES IN R&D
India spend only 0.80% of its GDP on
the on research and development
Quality of education is degrading
since independence. No Indian
university ranks among top 100
Global Universities
Most of the students for higher studies
go abroad
The job opportunities in India are very
less
The policies made by government for
motivating people in this field are not
publicized and most of the people are
not aware about them
5. Very less people interested
in research and
development!!!!
SOLUTION
IMPLEMENTATION
The stipend given to research scholars
is very less as compared to other
countries
Their should be better job
opportunities for Post Graduates and
Research scholars
The average salaries of research
students should be better as in present
scenario the graduates and post
graduates are getting same salaries
Their should be preference of post
graduates and research students in the
recruitment
The stipend for top Students
should increase which will
further encourage them
Introducing more jobs in
research facilities across India
The salary difference for
graduates and post graduates
should be such that it can
encourage student to go for
research and development
6. •India spent only 2.9% of the
total world’s expenditure on
research against China which
spent 14.2%
SOLUTIONS IMPLEMENTATION
The gross budgetary support for
R&D should increase to at least 2%
of the GDP
The private sector R&D investment
should increase as compared to
public sector investment from
current ratio of 1:3
Permitting multi stake holder
participation in Indian R&D system
The banking system should provide
venture capital to the graduates who
have aptitude and keenness in the
research work
Establishment of R&D facilities with
the private sector with equal profit
sharing
Promoting research through
scholarship program
Flexible banking system so as to
provide loan for research work
Provision of Institutional aid for
students in financial need who slip
through the cracks and fail to qualify
for government assistance. It lends
flexibility to the system
7. There are various Government policies
which if implemented in proper ways can
be very useful for the country’s R&D
EXISTING GOVERNMENT
POLICIES
CHANGES DESIRED
A strong and visible Science, Research
and Innovation System for High
Technology led path for India-
SRISHTI.
The government provides a stipend of
16000 for few selected PhD students
Prime Minister’s Fellowship Scheme
For Doctoral Research which provides
scholarship to PhD candidates
Every year each IIT receives a grant
of Rs. 100crore for promoting research
works
Presently there is no policy to favor
PGs and research scholars over
graduates in public and private sectors,
indirectly not favoring research works
Increase in no. of students as well as
grant provided to people interested in
research
The duration of funding of genuine
research works should increase
Private sectors involved in R&D must
get government aids in some form or
the other
8. India stands at 127th in education in the world with
a score 27.6 as compared to Syrian Arab Republic
leading the chart with a score of 95.0 ,displaying
the pathetic conditions of Indian Education System
SOLUTIONS IMPLEMENTATION
Focusing on skill based education
Getting smarter and qualified people to
teach
Proper infrastructure for a person even at
the grass root level which can lead him in a
proper direction
Regular evaluation of teaching learning
practices
Student-centered teaching-learning
practices
In-service teacher training and support to
improve active learning, continuous,
supportive student assessment and rational
class management.
Proper recruitment for teaching profession
Making policies providing every child has
an opportunity to study.
The existing policies should be
implemented strongly and a monitoring
body should be formed for regular
checking of such policies
Planned advocacy and information
dissemination to ensure systemic support
for the scaling up process.
Participation of private firms in education
by providing quality education at
affordable cost
Increasing the Student-Teacher ratio
9. India ranks 66th in the Global Innovation Index with a
score of mere 36.2 as compared to 66.6 of Switzerland
OMG!!!! QUALITY???
Establishment of institutes with
proper infrastructure required to help
in research work
Upgrading of current institutes so
that it can meet the standards of
world class universities
Several Orientation Programs can be
held where the retired professors and
highly qualified scientists can be
invited
Signing MOUs with top foreign
universities for Student Exchange
Programs
10. RAW WORKS OF INDIA
Here are some random examples of innovations from
some common people
Promote such activities
and see the difference
A wheel chair is designed which
uses breathing pattern to give
direction to it
A hand gadget which can convert
Braille into audio signals
A sprayer created by combination of
engine and gears which can cover
larger are while spraying
A system that can generate
electricity when slowly moving
sewage is passed through rotating
cylindrical drum
11. IMPACT
With the increase in research and number of patents, the
local industries can become more competitive with respect
to the foreign industries
As the research work increases, the items can be
manufactured in the country which will make the goods
available at much cheaper rates
If the research is successful there will be large foreign
investment
These all factors will ultimately result in the improvement
of our economy which is currently at downfall
