2. Urbanization trend in India
• In 2011 over 31% of its people resides in urban
towns and cities.
• Mumbai is the most populous city in India with a
total metropolitan area population of
approximately20.5 million.
• Urbanization in India was mainly caused after
independence. Economic opportunities are just
one reason people move into cities besides more
infrastructure facilities in the urban areas.
3. How to develop urban India?
Reducing of slums
Approximately 68 millions of Indian population
are living in slums.
The percentage of slums are also increasing due
to the migration of villagers in to urban areas for
employment.
Increasing of slums is not a good sign which leads
to lot of health problems in people living there
and also it will be an obstacle when ever there is
an expansion or construction in that area.
4. • Slums can be reduced by constructing large apartments by
the government so that the people can move to their
respective homes and should be allocated properly to those
people strictly or else they will be homeless.
• Constructing of these buildings leads to reduce in the area
of slums and the government can utilize that space or area
for any productive purpose constructions or sanction that
land for any private industrialist on contract basis.
• Example: Mumbai international airport
• Even the living conditions of the people in slums increases.
5. Over coming Water shortage
• Every household should practice rain water harvesting. We
should be in a position to utilize 100% of the rainwater.
• Smart use of water by every resident helps to save water
• For example:Mop your house with the water left after
rinsing clothes
• From now onwards when ever a new house or apartment or
constructed they should ensure to have a bore facility.
• Places which doesn’t have access to water should build
large tanks under the house or apartment so that the
municipality can connect water directly to those tanks and
also they can connect them to rain water with proper
mechanism.
6. Infrastructure-roads
• good roads are essentially important for smooth flow of
traffic. It is very important to divide roads for public
vehicles and personal vehicles.
• Footpaths must be laid all over the country so that
pedestrians and vehicles do not collide.
• Area limitation should be put on hire service vehicles
like auto, taxi etc and the driver should be charged
some amount if he exceeds his permitted area.
• Definitely good roads helps to strength the economy
since this is a globalization era roads have become one
of the important mode of transport
• Some places are overcrowded in the country so
building flyovers, subways help in diversifying traffic.
7. Use of public transport and reduce air
and sound pollution
• The usage of more personal vehicles leads to lot of
traffic and pollutions like air pollution and sound
pollution. These pollutions have adverse affect on the
health of people and also acts as a source of diseases.
• In order to reduce this we need to use the services of
public transport so that there will be reduce in traffic,
pollutions and also act as source of income to
government. It is even economical to people and finally
it also reduces the demand for oil in India. Government
also should take necessary actions in maintaining
public transport like RTC(road transport corporations),
metros etc
8. Energy
• In India we mainly have two sources to generate
electricity they are hydro and thermal.
• Solar panels must be installed on roof of every new
constructed houses and also existing ones.
• Even the government amenities like street lights,
divider lights on roads must be installed with solar
panels so that on day time they can get charged and on
night they function with that accumulated energy.
• Definitely the future will be functioning with solar
energy since it is only source(sun) which is constant
and the energy it generates never decrease.
• Government must ensure private entrepreneurs in this
field.
9. MORE INVESTMENT IN SERVICE
SECTOR
• A country is complete only when it provides any kind of service to any
kind of people at any point of time. It is very important to increase the
percentage of service sector in India. Full support should be give by
government for FDI in service sector.
• Since there is growing population the need of services by public will be
more, either be a government service or a private service.
• So services like hospital, hotels, schools, product service centres, police
stations, fire control station etc are all essential for a complete urban city.
• Having good service sector also encourages foreigners to visit our country
for tourism purpose which would add revenues to the country.
• Proper maintenance of government hospitals will be beneficial to lot of
people in the country. As we all know that majority of population in India
are in lower income group they essentially need all these services.
10. Conclusion
• In future we are not saying that Indian cities should match some
high developed cities in world. We are expecting every city to be in
a position to provide all basic amenities, services for all categories
of people be it a low class or high class. some every city should
concentrate on:
• Maintaining bus stops, public toilets, hospitals, police stations,
proper regulation of traffic-traffic rules etc
• Should concentrate on building apartments rather than individual
houses.
• Developing alternates sources of power supply, proper utilization of
rain water, concentration on pollution reduction etc.
• Proper buildings should be constructed where there will be no
chance for theft and also safety of people should be primary
concern for government.
