wouldalsohavetobereadyforthepost- COVID-19recovery.

2. GREEN BUILDING MOVEMENT IN INDIAMAJOR ACTIVITIES & INITIATIVES UNDERTAKEN
Webinaronairqualityandbuiltenvironment,3April2020
WebinaronHealthyBuildings,withaspecialfocuson'AirQualityand theBuilt
Environment'wasorganizedon3 April2020. Theobjectiveof theprogramwas
to increase awareness amongst all the stakeholders on health & well-being
aspects of abuilt environment, and on the latest trends & technologies for
improvingindoorairquality.
The session witnessed an overwhelming response from various
stakeholders, and received a registration of over 330 participants. IGBC,
throughits initiativeonhealth&well-being,highlightsthat
“wellness is anextremelypowerfulelementthatcanplayasigni cant role in
occupantengagement,productivity,talentretention,creativity andinnovation”.
EsteemedspeakersinthewebinarincludedrepresentativesfromCarrier,UTC,andCam l.
Someofthemeasuresdiscussedforcontrolling andprovidingimprovedIndoorAirQuality(IAQ)wereas below:
 Largenumberofgreenbuildingsareadoptingthe'3Ms' approachofmeasuring,monitoringandmaintainingindoorairquality (includingCO2,CO,
SOx,NOx,PM2.5,PM10,TVOC)onacontinuous/quarterlybasis.Indoorairqualityis widelyregardedto be2-5 timesmorepollutedthan
outdoor air. In manyof ces andcommercial spaces, the measured parameters are displayed in all regularly occupied spaces to create
awarenessamongoccupants.
 Useoftestedindoorplantstopurifyandprovidequalityfresh airtoallregularlyoccupiedspaces.Selectspeciesofindoor plantsarebeing
used in combination with activatedcharcoalandspecial aggregateas air puri ers widely in theindustry. They addaesthetic value tothe
environment.
 The'sick buildingsyndrome'hasbeenreducedeffectivelythankstotheuseofelectrostatic lter,HEPA lters, Photo-catalytic Oxidation
Process,andUltravioletGermicidalIrradiation(UVGI)technology.

Theaboveaspectsplayavitalroleinenhancingthehealthandwell-beingof

The guidelines include important concepts of monitoring, measuring
and maintaining good indoor air quality; enhanced visual, thermal,
olfactory, acoustical and ergonomic comfort; quality of water, people-
friendlypolicies andmanyotheroccupant-friendlypractices.
AboutIGBC's HealthandWell-being Rating System:
The IGBC Health &Well-being Rating is designed primarily for
new buildings and existing buildings of all commercial
developments.This uniqueratingrecognisesthat'healthis a state
ofcompletephysical,mentalandsocialwell-being, andnotmerelythe
absence of diseases or in rmity', and adopts aholistic 'whole
body-mind' approach. The rating emphasises on the built
environmentwhichplaysavitalrole inthewellnessoftheoccupant
andshould beclosely knitted with apeople-centric design. How
people'function'and'feel' withinpersonalandsocialcirclesstrongly
re ectsthekind ofenvironmenttheylivein.

Understanding (MoU) With Mangaluru Smart City Limited (MSCL) To
Boost Green Building Movement & Sustainable City Development
Mangaluru: During a programme held at Mangaluru Press Club on Tuesday, 28 January
2020, The Indian Green Building Council (I GBC) -Mangaluru Chapter and Mangaluru
Smart City Ltd (MSCL) signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) for giving a boost
to the Green Building Movement and sustainable Development in Mangaluru City. During
the ceremony which had many leaders from Government, Smart City, Industry, Media
and academia present, MSCL Managing Director Mohammed Nazeer said, “This marks a
major milestone in our efforts to make the City Smart, Green and Clean”.
