IBMSADT
Energy Savings in every Patient Room!
Metasys integrates with ADT
When patient admitted, Metasys
brings room to temp and turns on
lights
When patient discharged, Metasys
puts room in Stand By mode and
sets temp back and turns off lights
With PRO:
The Challenge:
Automatically “setting back” patient rooms when patients aren’t in them

Healthcare Environment
Optimization™ (HEO) takes
efficiency in the OR to the next
level.
The hospital’s building
automation system reacts in
real-time to the clinical
occupied/unoccupied status
of the OR - documenting
environment conditions, saving
energy, and improving clinical
outcomes.

8. Think Your OR is Optimized? Think again.
Johnson Controls15
Manual Pushbuttons
Simple, but requires adding to the workload of the clinicians and may cause a
distraction from patient care needs.
Time Clocks (Ambulatory Centers)
Time frames may be set too conservatively and a procedure/plan is required
for emergency OR cases.
Occupancy Sensors
Generate some utility savings, however not optimized (e.g., janitorial staff ,
security and medical equipment teams can trigger sensors.)
These options do not provide robust documentation services,
enhance clinical workflows, or improve patient care.
Let’s go inside the OR

13. Understanding The Benefits of HEO
Johnson Controls25
Environmental documentation
Promote proper conditions for successful patient outcomes. Alert
function notifies clinicians and facility department of abnormal environmental
conditions to encourage immediate remediation.
Generate supporting documentation for regulatory submissions,
resolution of potential complaints / disputes, etc.
Support hospital goals:
Improve patient outcomes.
Enhance compliance, risk mitigation, etc.

14. Improved productivity & clinical workflows
Use electronic OR dashboards to record surgical events (anesthesia time,
cut time, etc.) to simplify tasks now performed by clinicians.
Link with hospital information systems to enable the exchange of data,
verify patient name, download electronic surgical schedule (optional), etc.
Support hospital goals:
Reduce clinical errors, improve OR workflows, increase efficiency, reduce
cost, etc.

Energy savings
Avoid unnecessary air changes when operating room is not being used.
Analyze HVAC operating logs for continuous optimization, preventive
maintenance, etc.
Support hospital goals:
Reduce cost by up to $10,000 annually per OR.
Contribute to LEED / Green initiatives, environmental stewardship, etc.

PROJECT PROFILE
Albert Einstein Medical Center
Solution:
The Johnson Controls team had built a trusting relationship with the owner and the construction manager enabling us to develop an
integrated IT-focused solution. This included all the low voltage systems as well as the Cisco equipment purchased under the alliance agreement.
Additional Benefits:
The solution mitigated risk by providing a single point of responsibility for delivering integrated technologies and systems. The convergence of
building systems to an enterprise level increased the ease of communications. Finally, streamlining the upgrading of building systems created the
flexibility necessary to avoid renovations and tear outs.
Project: Albert Einstein Medical Center
Initial Contract Amount: $13 M
Type: Technology Contracting
General Contractor: Gilbane Construction
Background:
Albert Einstein Healthcare Network is a private, not-for-profit organization with
seven facilities and many outpatient centers. Their primary mission is to provide
compassionate, high-quality healthcare to the greater Philadelphia region.
The Center was looking to expand their campus and issued an RFP for a newly
constructed facility. The customer was challenged with determining all their current
technology needs and navigating the construction process.

PROJECT PROFILE
Corning Hospital, Guthrie Health Systems
Solution:
Johnson Controls sold the technology contracting approach to the owner (GHS) with support from their representative (Hammes Company).
The team differentiated themselves by leveraging our healthcare design and delivery experience, and providing design assist service
to enhance design/functionality. The Johnson Controls team designed a solution to meet the goals of future growth and development by
utilizing integrated building systems delivered under a technology contract.
Additional Benefits:
Technology contracting achieved savings for individual systems that range between 8% and 10% of the original budget. The capacity to grow and
expand the healthcare presence within the Corning community will be increased upon project completion. Also, communication coordination and
efficiency of the hospital system will be enhanced. JCI is providing Day 2 Services on the equipment and controls through a Planned Service
Agreement to support Corning Hospital’s ongoing operations.
Project: Corning Hospital, Guthrie Health Systems
Initial Contract Amount: $150 M (Project budget)
Technology Budget: $8.3 M + $450k PSA for 3 years
Type: Technology Contracting
General Contractor: Gilbane/Welliver
Background:
In 2014, the Corning Hospital campus will complete its move to a new location in the town
of Corning to provide room for future growth and expansion. This will allow the hospital
to provide an environment to patients that is comfortable, safe and convenient and
allows for economic growth of the community. Upon completion, the hospital will have
232,000 sq. ft., host 5 operating rooms, 65 patient beds and 18 treatment areas.
