This document discusses potential makeup ideas for an American Horror Story-inspired thriller. It considers a bridal veil makeup representing a ghost, a "white nun" makeup with black dripping paint that would be easy to recreate, and a "smiley" makeup with eye slits and a bloody smile that would unsettle audiences but be difficult to replicate consistently. It also mentions risks associated with a voodoo doll-inspired makeup and open wound makeup ideas. The document concludes that a "white nun" makeup with additional open wound special effects around the face would fit best for the thriller genre and add interest compared to other options.
2. AMERICAN HORROR STORY
•This AHS tutorial is from the ‘Hotel’ series. This makeup is inspiring to our
thriller as we had previously thought about a bridal/mourning vail as a
costume design as it acts as a disguise and concealment for the character;
representing a ghost effect and fits well with a thriller.
The only problem we would have with this is the getting the small white vail
and getting a fake key to stick onto the face. Also, recreating the makeup
will be difficult over a period of a few days and will be hard to make it look
similar.

•This ‘white nun’ makeup is one of our favourite makeup ideas. The process
of the makeup is easy and quick to do and would be a lot easier to recreate
as there isn't as much detail. The only problem we would have is cracking of
the face paint as there is a lot of face paint involved. Another problem is the
dripping of the black paint, whenever we recreate the makeup on another
day we will have to be careful to make the dripping look as similar to before
as possible.

3. CONCEALED FACE
This ‘smiley’ tutorial would look good for a thriller as it is different and would
give off a creepy effect. The slits as eyes, a wide bloody smile and no nose
suggests unsettlement to the audience as it is a form of concealment. To the
audience, concealment of the face and not being able to see a face comes
across as unusual and disturbing as society do not come across a face being
covered up often so this would unsettle them. Therefore, this would be good
for a thriller as we want to imply a disconcerting vibe. Unfortunately, even
though this would be perfect for our thriller as it would be hard to recreate
over a period of days.

In this voodoo doll makeup, there is the same idea of being horrific for the
audience due to the concealment of the face. This would also be good for
our thriller as it is different and strange. The problem with doing this
makeup is that it will be very difficult to recreate again like the ‘smiley’ one
but also there are many risk hazards with this makeup such as not being able
to see out the eyes and looks as if you would struggle to breath through this.
Also another problem with both of these makeups is that they wouldn’t fit
our certificate 15, instead for these makeup ideas, a suitable certificate is 18.
4. OPEN WOUNDS

This special fx makeup for our thriller would be good for more effect and a thrill
for the audience but a problem for this would be that we would have to create
a scene where the girl gets this wound and wouldn’t look effective or good if
we filmed a scene like this. Also another problem would be that it wouldn’t
look realistic if the girls skin was all white and wouldn’t fit in well but would be
easier to create. If we was to use this idea, I would include it in a final scene
when she maybe moves the fabric away from her shoulder and then reveals a
horrific open wound.

The ‘Chelsea smile’ makeup is another good special fx idea as it is different but
reminds me of the joker. This makeup would look good in the thriller and would
add more detail in the face and make it look more interesting but yet disturbing
for the audience.
As our group has come to the conclusion of doing the ‘white nun’ makeup, a
white pale face with black dripping down the face, this special fx around the face
would add interest unlike other thrillers. This would also be helpful as our genre
is a horror/thriller so therefore this would fit into the genre and make it more of
a horror.
