This document summarizes the efforts to increase the quality and diversification of fish products produced by the women's group 'Pawon Gendis' in Banjarharjo Village, Kulon Progo, Indonesia. The group analyzed their natural resources, market potential, community needs, skills, and social networks. They identified strengths in local food and social participation but weaknesses in skills and facilities. With guidance from universities and government, the group received training, built a production house, and started small businesses in local food products and ecotourism to generate income while supporting food sovereignty. The partnerships and skills development helped the group communicate, engage stakeholders, and work towards independent community development.

16. Projecting Community Development
New building that has been
built to support production.
Village yard that is projected to
be manage by Pawon Gendis
Pawon Gendis is established in order to solve some problem that is faced by the women inside the village.
Based on our observation and interaction during 1 year, we agree that the community have recognized and identified the challenges and opportunities that is faced by the village. And they are really aware of their village condition.
Those process and problem identification inside the community simply can be told as 4G (good consciousness, Good Ideas, Good willing and Good Negotiation).
The first G is Good Consciousness.
Villagers aware about some issues that is around and inter-influencing their livelihood (sustainable livelihood’s aspect, which are Natural Capital, Human capital, Physical Capital, Social Capital, Financial Capital)
Some Natural capital issues, (the abundant of local food, Human capital issues (diverse paradigm and low skill woman) Physical Capital that is needed for accessibility of product and other community need. Social capital that is mentioned by high bonding and cohesion.
These are some brief livelihood aspect that we can collected trough observation and interaction with community.
The second G is Good Ideas.
This idea comes based on good consciousness about resource and other capital that has been mentioned in the previous slide.
Because the community aware and conscious, they collect some ideas to solve the problems.
Inside the informal conversation inside the group meeting or other social capital mechanism, those ideas is raised.
It is mentioned as collective action mechanism and bottom up process.
The third G is Collective active willing trough some social capital such as village meeting, arisan, pengajian and so on is carried out into the next step which is willing to do. Those ideas that is shared informally in the social capital meeting, gradually is implemented
The last G is Good Negotiation.
Some of the ideas of solving problems sometimes meet some obstacle becous of capacity limitation of villager. Good negotiation is other way for villagers to get some response from other parties that is have the capacity to help them to solve the problem.
This 4G mechanism is empowered Pawon Gendis Woman group to going further compare to other groups.
Good negotiation is the last critical process to execute the whole information. Woman Group Pawon Gendis have been negotiating with possible stakeholders to overcome the obstacles.
During this process, Natural Leader can be recognize and positively can persuade other woman, and in this case, Natural Leader really determine and reflect the long endurance of group perform. Present Leader playing her role very well and positively persuade other member in a group.
This last 4G (Good negotiation) factor that bring us (Fisheries Department UGM) to the woman group Pawon Gendis.
In this slide I will try to explain the community interaction and job division tat is influenced by complexity relationship in emerging community. Some of the interaction and relationship in a village face a lot of aspects such as community vulnerability, low incomes status, survival needs and demands, social stigma, low literacy and other negative factor. Those factors is embedded inside the village and creating interactional empathy and enduring relationship.
Those factor creating the marketing system and even the production system inside the community is fluid, responsive and face a lot of customizes. In this context, the woman group limitations indeed become the trigger to solve some problem communally.
Several local agriculture potency has been developed and at the present they want to start developing fish product sector due to the demand and local potency.
Most of the interaction aimed to engage and motivate group.
Most of the practical skill is delivered according to their needs
Good Negotiation is one of advantages that is owned by Pawon Gendis. A lot of stakes holders have been engaged with Pawon Gendis and connection with Fisheries Departement UGM have enhance their networking. We have connect Pawon Gendis with Rumah zakat to support their production scale up with financial support. (100 million rupiah)
Knowledge distance between group and University trigger community keen to upgrading their capacity
Lack of networking made Pawon Gendis keen to keep interaction and communication with prospective collaborator, include UGM.
the last but not the least, instead the critical factor is community willingness to always learn.
In the next slide I want to emphasize the main function of University, and they are….(next slide)
