11. About Tonga
“When it comes to global health, there is no
‘them’... only ‘us’.” - Global health Council
• Kingdom of Tonga is an archipelago
in the south pacific comprising 176
islands with a population of
approximately 100,000
• Agriculture forms the backbone of its
economy
• Health funding is limited and
dictated by the government
• Currently an overarching of burden
of non-communicable illnesses such
as Obesity, Diabetes and
Cardiovascular disease.
12. About the Hospital
• Prince Ngu Wellington Hospital, Vaiola
• 60 bed hospital, 2 doctors and 8 nurses
• Services include general medicine + surgery,
paediatrics and obstetrics/gynaecology.
• Outpatient services + Rural outreach

• 17th – Arrive Kampala
• 1 or 2 days in Kampala (capital)
– Visit Mulago Hospital
• 1 day travel to Lubanda Village
• Activities in Lubanda and surrounding villages
• 28th – Return to Kampala
