3rd Quarter human organ science
1. HUMAN ORGANS
ORGANS ARE THE BODY’S
RECOGNIZABLE STRUCTURES. AN
ORGAN IS MADE OF SEVERAL TYPES OF
TISSUE AND THEREFORE SEVERAL TYPES
OF CELLS. ALL TISSUES AND ORGANS
ARE MADE OF BILLIONS OF DIFFERENT
CELLS.
2. BRAIN
THE BRAIN IS A COMPLEX ORGAN
THAT CONTROLS THOUGHT, MEMORY,
EMOTION, TOUCH, MOTOR SKILLS,
VISION, BREATHING, TEMPERATURE,
HUNGER AND EVERY PROCESS THAT
REGULATES OUR BODY.
3. HEART
The heart is a fist-sized
organ that pumps blood
throughout your body. It's the
primary organ of your
circulatory system.
4. KIDNEY
The kidneys are two bean-shaped
organs, each about the size of a fist.
Healthy kidneys filter about a half
cup of blood every minute, removing
wastes and extra water to make
urine.
5. SPLEEN
The spleen is an important part of
your immune system but you can
survive without it. This is because
the liver can take over many of the
spleen's functions.
6. INTESTINE
The intestine is a muscular
tube which extends from the
lower end of your stomach to
your anus, the lower opening
of the digestive tract. It is
also called the bowel or
bowels.
7. LIVER
The liver is located in the
upper right-hand portion of
the abdominal cavity,
beneath the diaphragm,
and on top of the stomach,
right kidney, and intestines.
8. GALLBLADDER
Your gallbladder is a small,
pear-shaped organ in your upper
right abdomen. Your gallbladder
stores and releases bile to help
your digestive system break down
fats.
9. STOMACH
AN ORGAN THAT IS PART OF
THE DIGESTIVE SYSTEM. THE
STOMACH HELPS DIGEST
FOOD BY MIXING IT WITH
DIGESTIVE JUICES AND
CHURNING IT INTO A THIN
LIQUID.
10. PANCREAS
The pancreas is an organ in
your abdomen. It produces
substances that impact digestion
and blood sugar. The pancreas
is an organ in your abdomen. It
produces substances that
impact digestion and blood
sugar.
11. The skin is the largest
organ of the body. The
skin and its derivatives
(hair, nails, sweat and oil
glands) make up the
integumentary system.

12. The lungs are located on either
side of the breastbone in the chest
cavity and are divided into five
main sections. The lungs are
responsible for removing carbon
dioxide from the blood and adding
oxygen to it. The heart and lungs
work together to do this.

14. ORGAN SYSTEMS
An organ system is a biological system
consisting of a group of organs that work
together to perform one or more functions.
Each organ has a specialized role in a plant or
animal body, and is made up of distinct tissues.
15. DIGESTIVE SYSTEM
The digestive system is made
up of the gastrointestinal
tract also called the GI tract
or digestive tract and
the liver, pancreas, and
gallbladder.
16. MUSCULAR SYSTEM
The muscular system is composed of
specialized cells called muscle fibers.
Their predominant function is
contractibility. Muscles, attached to
bones or internal organs and blood
vessels, are responsible for
movement.
18. Lymphatic SYSTEM
The lymphatic system is a network of
delicate tubes throughout the body. It
drains fluid that has leaked from the
blood vessels into the tissues and
empties it back into the bloodstream
via the lymph nodes.
19. NERVOUS SYSTEM
Your nervous system is your body’s
command center. Originating from
your brain, it controls your
movements, thoughts and automatic
responses to the world around you. It
also controls other body systems and
processes, such as digestion,
breathing and sexual development.
