1. Nervous system
The nervous system is your body's command center,
controlling your thoughts, movements, sensations and vital
functions.
It consists of two major parts: the central nervous system
(CNS), which includes the brain and spinal cord, and the
peripheral nervous system (PNS), which connects the CNS to
the rest of the body.
The nervous system is made up of billions of neurons,
specialized cells that transmit information through electrical
and chemical signals. Neurons form networks called nerve
nets, nerves, tracts and pathways
Nervous system has subsystems for voluntary, involuntary and
digestive functions.
2. Nervous system works with:
Controls all other systems
Hypothalamus –
maintains homeostasis by
working with all systems
3. muscular system
The muscular system is a set of tissues in the
body with the ability to change shape.
Muscle cells connect together and eventually to
elements of the skeletal system.
When the muscle cells contract, force is created
as the muscles pull against the skeleton.
4. 1. w/skeletal – allow movement
2. w/digestive – allow organs to contract to push
food through
3. w/respiratory – diaphragm controls breathing
4. w/circulatory – controls pumping of blood (heart)
5. w/nervous – controls all muscle contractions
muscular system works with:
5. integumentary system
The integumentary system is composed of the following parts:
1.Skin
2.Skin appendages
1. Hairs
2. Nails
3. Sweat glands
4. Sebaceous glands
3.Subcutaneous tissue and deep fascia
4.Mucocutaneous junctions
5.Breasts
6. • The integumentary system is the largest organ of
the body
• forms a physical barrier between the external
environment and the internal environment.
• In addition to its barrier function, this system
performs many functions such as body
temperature regulation, cell fluid maintenance,
synthesis of Vitamin D, and detection of stimuli.
integumentary system
7. Integumentary system works with:
1. w/excretory – removes
cellular waste
2. w/nervous – controls
body temperature
(sweating, goose bumps)
3. w/immune – prevents
pathogens from entering
8. skeletal system
The skeletal system includes cartilage, ligaments, and tendons
The human skeleton has 206 bones that form a framework for the
body.
The skeleton is divided into two parts: the axial skeleton, which
consists of the skull, spine, ribs, and sternum, and the appendicular
skeleton, which includes the limbs and pelvis
Bones are living organs that have three layers: the outer periosteum,
the hard compact bone, and the inner spongy bone that contains
marrow and blood vessels.
The skeletal system is constantly growing, repairing, and
remodeling itself, and can be affected by diseases such as
osteoporosis, arthritis, and cancer.
9. 1. w/muscular – allow movement
2. w/circulatory – produce blood cells
3. w/immune – produce white blood
cells
4. w/circulatory and respiratory –
protects it’s organs
skeletal system works with:
10. Basic element of medical word
There are three basic word elements:
prefix, word root (with a combining vowel), and suffix.
Not all medical terms contain all three of these elements and
some term contain more than one of each element.
11. Basic element of medical word
Word Elements:
The medical word consists of :
• Word root
• Combining form
• Prefix and suffix
The meaning of the medical term is
determined by how these parts are
combined, and weather all or some of
them are present
13. Word
root
• A root word is a basic word with no prefix or suffix
added to it
• It shows the primary meaning of the medical term
• Word roots might be taken from Latin origin or
Greek origin
Used to: build words that
describes anatomical
structures
Used to: build words that
describes disease,
treatment, conditions
