The document discusses research conducted to determine the content and format of a proposed photography magazine. Students in a photography course were surveyed about their interests. Most respondents indicated they would be interested in a magazine priced between £2-£3 that provided tips on taking and editing photos, as well as reviews of basic equipment. Respondents also stated they would prefer the magazine be released on a weekly basis to continuously learn new skills from professional photographers.

Unit 30 LO2 – Research
1. Unit 30 LO2 – Research
I am planning to make a Photography magazine and I carried out some research
to see what my audience would look for in a magazine like this.
I focussed my research by asking the students in my Level 3 Photography course
– because they are typical of the core audience for the kind of magazine I am
making.
I was particularly interested in the following four questions:-
1. Would you buy a photography magazine if it had a range of tips about
taking and editing photographs?
2. Are you interested in reviews of new photographic equipment or more
interested in the actual taking and editing of photographs?
3. How much would you be willing to pay for a magazine?
4. How often would you want to buy a photography magazine?
The first two questions are focussed on content and the second two on
‘business’.
I found the following:-
1. I found that the majority of people would like to see tips within the magazine
and would draw them more to buying it as along with allowing them to see
photography in all aspects it would allow them to see how they can do it as well.
2. In the magazine people said how they would like to see reviews on equipment
to take out for photography but not have things which are incredibly high and
out of the majorities price range, along side this people said how they would like
to see reviews on the more basic equipment they already have or what they can
use to get started off with photography.
3. The average price range for the magazine was between £2-£3, knowing that
when people purchase the magazine they would get a lot of information in each
issue and would be getting their money’s worth with photos they would be able
to learn from and equipment they could look at to buy in the future.
4. From the information about the magazine I gave people nearly all said they
would buy a weekly issue if it kept up with the quality of information, allowing
them to learn more and more with each copy along with showing them what the
more professional photographers do when they take their photos.
As a result of my research I will make sure that my magazine focuses on ‘how to’
guides rather than on new equipment because that it was people will buy
photography magazines for.
