2. Overview of film trailer
Synopsis:
A new girl joins a school alone. The popular group allows her to join them. However, to be one of them she
has to do a variety of different trials that lead her into trouble and could risk her safety.
We chose to produce the genre of Teen drama, this was because we felt like we could build a strong
realistic trailer, not only this but as a group we all found a common interest in this particular genre
therefore felt like we were more passionate about creating this specific film type. Similar films that we
looked at included Nerve, Wild Child and Mean Girls alongside the Netflix series Pretty Little Liars. By doing
research into films of a similar storyline and genre it allowed us to gain ideas and inspiration of how we
wished to carry out own trailer.
3. Key Characters:
To the right is a screengrab of the characters
we intend to incorporate into our piece. We
have three characters. The protagonist, a 17
year old girl who has newly joined her
school, is quiet and reserved. Desperate to
make friends, she is willing to do anything to
be included and fit in. However, following the
crowd could lead to her downfall. Chelsea,
the most 'popular' girl in school is jealous of
the new girl and feels threatened by her as
all of chelsea's friends have become friends
with her. Because of this she begins to make
it hard for the new girl to keep her friends.
4. Overview of film trailer
While creating this power point we decided to slightly change the
narrative of our film. Here is the new synopsis:
Synopsis:
New girl joins school with no friends and is not known by anyone. She
is desperate to be popular and surrounded by friends. She makes a
wish to herself to be noticed and is surprised by what happens the next
day.
5. Ideas for the promotional campaign
• In order to promote our teaser trailer we are going to emphasize the school
setting so that our storyline becomes relatable for our audience of teens and
young adults.
• The USP is that an average girl becomes everything she desired to be over night
but faces challenges when she gets what she always wanted.
• We are going to emphasize the genre within our poster and trailer by using bright
colours and the main focus being a teenage girl.
• The narrative themes will be made clear through the title of the film and the
trailer having a beginning, middle and an end. The events that unfold within the
trailer will also help to emphasize the genre.
• The representation of the character will be made clear through their costume,
body language, facial expressions and through how other characters behave
towards them.
6. Poster ideas:
• For our poster we took inspiration from
the film Angus Thongs and Perfect
Snogging. We want too have a close up of
the protagonist, with a thought bubble
around her head, within this bubble we
then want to have a variety of emojis that
covey what she is feeling. We will have
bright color's incorporated into the
poster so that it stands out and grabs
people's attention. We will also have a tag
line which is "A lot can change in a day",
we believe this is short and snappy and
memorable. We are unsure of the name
yet however over time we will think of
ideas to be able to narrow it down so we
come to a final conclusion.
7. Ideas for our teaser trailer:
• Within our trailer we want to include montage editing as well as continuity editing, this is so the audience
are able to see small snapshots of the plot throughout without knowing what will happen in the end, leaving
it on a cliff hanger. Including continuity orientates the audience into what is happening so they are not
confused.
• We want to begin our teaser trailer with an extreme long shot of the college as said previously this
orientates the audience into knowing where the film will take place, it could also foreshadow certain aspects
that may be included within the trailer and how it might turn out. We will then have the diegetic sound of
the school bell going off, we then will fluently cut into a shot of the busy college corridors which then cuts to
a shot of the new girl walking alone struggling to find her class and to hold her books, we then see a shot of
a group of girls that barge pass her. She then makes a wish to herself "I wish I could be popular" nothing
changes and she carries on with normal day. The next day we will do a montage of her morning routine as
she wakes up she sees that she is getting messages, snapchats and instagram likes from people she didn’t
even think knew her, she goes into college and everyone starts talking to her, even her crush is paying her
attention. But how long will this last?!
• We will include a voice over to help carry out the plot as we believe this will make it easier to understand.
• In order to differentuate between the change In characters, the clothing will differ. To begin with the new girl
will wear causal slouchey clothes that denote the idea she is very careless about her appearance in
comparison to the popular girls who wear very over the top girly clothes, with the pink theme continued
throughout.
8. Ideas for magazine cover
This is a past student example of a magazine cover. We are going to try and create something similar as we our target
markets are the same.
The students that have made this
poster have used white and purple
colours which are typically very
feminine. We are likely to choose
similar colours to this as our target
market are female teenagers.
A female teenager is used on
the front cover of this
magazine. This works well
because teenagers can relate
to this image.
They have included 'Britain's First
Women's Film Magazine' on this
magazine. This is likely to attract
their target market because it
makes the magazine sound like it
will have new, fresh content.
The title of this
magazine cover 'The online
Age' relates to the picture that
is shown on the front cover as
the girl is sat on a laptop. The
target market is able to relate
to this because they are going
to mainly be teenagers and
stereotypically teenagers
spend a lot of time on social
media etc.
9. Target audience
Our target audience are female's aged 14-20 (teenagers), this is
because this group of people will be able to relate to some of the
themes and characters.
