crossed 43.65 lakh.
The state has achieved
the target of 40.41 per-

Public Health Engi-

due to constant monitor-

moving fast towards
achieving the goals of
the mission.
He said that Rajasthan

terms of expenditure in
JJM by spending a total
of Rs 16, 986 crore so
far. A total of Rs 2,471
crore has been spent so
far in the current finan-
cial year.
He said that in the fi-
nancial year 2022-23, a
total of 14.13 lakh water
connections were given.
He said that the year
2023 has been very good
for JJM.
“Our geographical
conditions are odd.
Most of the vast area
here is desert and per
capita availability of
water is also minimal.
Due to the scattered
habitations, a lot of
money has to be spent to
deliver water to the
dhanis and it also takes
a lot of time,” he said.

n the issue re-
lated to drug
supply firms in
Lifeline of SMS Hospi-
tal, a LD (Late Delivery)
recovery was started af-
ter the disclosure of cor-
ruption in Lifeline. In the
year 2018, LD of about 6
crores was imposed si-
multaneously on various
firms. Notably, a penalty
of Late Delivery (LD) is
levied for not supplying
drugs on time.
Meanwhile an arbitra-
tor was appointed on the
appeal of some firms
against this recovery.
And in one of these cas-
es, huge administrative
negligence was observed
as despite the notice, the
hospital administration
did not provide any argu-
ment to its side.
In such a situation, the
firm was ordered to re-
turn the amount with in-
terest and the order came
to return, with penalty, an
amount of about two
crore rupees in lieu of the
recovery of 77 lakhs. Af-
ter the order, the admin-
istration lost its sleep,
and is now again prepar-
ing for appeal in the
case.. But the question is,
did anyone intentionally
not allow the hospital to
present its side?

Ajit Pawar’s deserting
of his uncle who is also a
political heavyweight and
the winner of several po-
litical battles and NCP
boss Sharad Pawar on Sun-
day will certainly have a
huge impact on the Oppo-
sition unity which was ini-
tiated to a somewhat shaky
start with 15 parties in the
Patna Conclave in June.
Following the Ajit Pa-
war episode, the already
“fractured” unity among
the Oppn parties saw a tur-
bulence whenAAPand the
Congress showdown and
the TMC’s “sermons” to
the Congress over seeking
bonhomie at the nation
level but having a different
episode in the state level.
However, the conclave
went on “smoothly” de-
spite apparent fissures in
the Parivar which was
never Sangh (together) in
real terms.
Also, it may be noted
that the Congress and the
Communist Party of India-
Marxist do not see eye-to-
eye in Kerala. Now, with
Ajit Pawar’s decision, this
move will have several af-
tershocks to the “newly
found” bonhomie between
strange partners in an at-
tempt to stitch together a
coalition or whatever they
call it to take on the BJP in
the crucial 2024 Lok Sabha
elections. With theAjit Pa-
war episode culminating…
the following are the high-
lights of the Maha Saga…
IMPORTANCE
OF FADNAVIS
After apparently lying low,
Devendra Fadnavis has
again emerged as the mas-
termind of Maharashtra
politics as he deftly faced
veteran Sharad Pawar’s
2019 ‘bouncer’ in India’s
major Political League
which has surprises and
sharp twists galore.
WithAjit Pawar’s inclu-
sion, Fadnavis has proved
to the party’s top brass that
given an opportunity, he is
capable of playing a cru-
cial role.
It may be recalled that
Fadnavis had to face major
embarrassment in 2019
when he formed the gov-
ernment with the assis-
tance of Ajit Pawar but it
(the regime) could last
only a few days. Fadnavis’
image had then taken a ma-
jor beating especially in
the eyes of the party’s cen-
tral leadership.
But Sunday’s master-
stroke has put all this be-
hind him. Considering the
scenario of the 2024 Lok
Sabha election, the BJP
had sensed that it would be
difficult to ride the Shinde
crest alone to ensure vic-
tory. And hence, the Sun-
day episode has come as a
major relief to the BJP as
far as ensuring widespread
support in Maharashtra as
of now is concerned.
However, with the Sun-
day episode over, and the
dust settling, the picture
will get clearer and how
the Opposition unity will
emerge from this crisis and
what NCP boss Sharad Pa-
war will do to keep his im-
age intact will become
more evident.
But in all this, it may be
saidthattheOppositionfirst
has to keep their respective
(party)claningoodhumour
to gain their confidence be-
fore they even think of
stitching an unity plan
whichshouldalsobehighly
credible notwithstanding
the differences.

After merging his Rash-

with the JD(U) in 2021,
Kushwaha had become
the chairman of JD(U)’s
parliamentary board. He
(Kushwaha) was made the
Leader of the Opposition

fter the split in the Nationalist Congress
Party, the Opposition’s efforts to form a
united front suffered another weakening
blow with the CBI naming Rashtriya Janata Dal
leader and Bihar Deputy Chief Minister Tejashwi
Yadav in the land-for-jobs scam. The charge-sheet
also named his parents Lalu Prasad Yadav, former
Union Railway Minister and Rabri Devi, former
chief minister of Bihar. The scam happened when
Lalu was the railways minister.
During his tenure as railways minister from 2004-
2009 Lalu is alleged to have given Group D jobs to
eight people in lieu of land allegedly at a total price
of Rs 26 lakh as against its market value of 4.39
crore. The land cumulatively measured nearly one
lakh square feet. Some of the land was allegedly pur-
chased in Yashaswi’s name.
Bad as it is for the opposition, the development is
a bigger setback for Lalu who has already spent a lot
of time in jail in other corruption cases.

ro-Khalistan activists are bent on creating
trouble against India from foreign shores.
They plot disturbances from Australia, Brit-
ain, Canada, Australia and the US. Of these Britain,
Canada and Australia have particularly emerged as
hotspots and India is constantly reminding govern-
ments of these countries to not allow space to the
Khalistanis.
The pro-Khalistan groups especially upped the
ante after the arrest of Amritpal Singh and the crack-
down on his Waris Punjab De group. The attack on
Indian High Commission and tearing down of Tri-

in San Francisco was
vandalised. The San

was again targeted on
Sunday.
India is particular-
ly concerned about
Canada where the
Khalistanis are the
most active. In a re-
cent dangerous de-

summoned the Cana-

istani supporters re-
leased posters of two
Indian diplomats
identifying them as
“killers” of terrorist
Hardeep Singh Nijjar
in Canada’s Surrey
last month. Khalistanis also plan to take out a Khal-
istan Freedom Rally in Toronto on July 9. Canada
has described the posters as “unacceptable”.
Although Canada need not be reminded of its re-
sponsibility towards diplomatic missions under the
Vienna Convention, the government has to ensure no
harm comes to the two diplomats.
Khalistan extremists earlier used Pakistan to foment
disturbance in India but with increasing condemnation
for allowing its soil to be used by terrorist groups it
has become a little cautious. As Pakistan’s ISI is not
the one to stop its nefarious activities India has been
repeatedly saying that Pakistan can’t be trusted.

Taliban ban women's salons in
all provinces across Afghanistan
Agencies
Kabul
The Taliban are banning
women’s beauty salons
in Afghanistan, a govt
spokesman said on Tues-
day. It’s the latest curb on
the rights and freedoms of
Afghan women and girls,
following edicts barring
them from education,
public spaces and most
forms of employment.
A spokesman for the
Taliban govt didn’t give
details of the ban. He
only confirmed the con-
tents of a letter circulat-
ing on social media.
The ministry-issued
letter, dated June 24, says
it conveys a verbal order
from the supreme leader,
Hibatullah Akhundzada.
The ban targets the capi-
tal, Kabul, and all prov-
inces, and gives salons
throughout the country a
month’s notice to wind
up their businesses.
After that period, they
must close and submit a
report about their clo-
sure. The letter doesn’t
give reasons for the ban.
Its release comes days
after Akhundzada
claimed that his govern-
ment has taken the neces-
sary steps for the better-
ment of women’s lives in
Afghanistan.

The Lord’s Test battle be-
tween England and Aus-
tralian players might have
ended on the field on Sun-
day but it continues be-
tween the media outlets of
the two countries. After
Monday’s papers in the
United Kingdom took a
dig at theAustralian team
over the controversial
Jonny Bairstow dismiss-
al, the Aussie media hit
back with ‘crybabies’ tag
for Ben Stokes and his
team on Tuesday. Seeing
one of the newspaper
front pages go viral on
social media, Stokes
couldn’t resist taking a
hilarious swipe.
The West Australian
posted a picture of Stokes
in nappies, with ‘Cryba-
bies’written in big letters
in the centre. “Poms take
whingeing to new level
with ‘cheating’ drivel”
read another line from
the paper. Stokes replied:
“That’s definitely not me,
since when did I bowl
with the new ball”.
Stokes, reacting to
Bairstow dismissal, had
asserted that he wouldn’t
want to win a game in
such a manner. But, the
England captain admitted
that whatever happened
onthefieldwaswellwith-
in the rules of the game.
“If the shoe was on the
otherfootIwouldhaveput
more pressure on the um-
pires and asked whether
they had called over and
had a deep think about the
whole spirit of the game.
Would I want to win a
game in that manner? The
answer for me is no,” he
had said on Sunday.
Australia captain Pat
Cummins, on the other
hand, feels Carey did
what he should have, es-
pecially considering
Bairstow had also been at
the center of similar dis-
missals in the past.

foundation laying, dedi-
cating to the public and

ter 1995, theAdministra-

has even issued remind-
ers at least half a dozen
times. On October 9,
2015, the then Chief Sec-

names inscribed on
planks raised for founda-

officials under Rajasthan

not follow the State Gov-

example can be seen in

  • 4. fter the high- octane polit- ical develop- ments in Maharash- tra, Opposition parties, es- pecially the ones which are in power and have also at- tended the Patna Conclave, must be wary and stitch a bonding among their party members. If grapevine is to be be- lieved, Nitish Kumar’s sarkarinBiharmustbealert, following BJP’s Sushil Modi’s political statements over the last few days.Akh- ilesh Yadav’s Samajwadi Party, apparently, is not in- sulatedfromsuchathreatas was reported perceived by BJP allies in Uttar Pradesh. Ajit Pawar’s deserting of his uncle who is also a political heavyweight and the winner of several po- litical battles and NCP boss Sharad Pawar on Sun- day will certainly have a huge impact on the Oppo- sition unity which was ini- tiated to a somewhat shaky start with 15 parties in the Patna Conclave in June. Following the Ajit Pa- war episode, the already “fractured” unity among the Oppn parties saw a tur- bulence whenAAPand the Congress showdown and the TMC’s “sermons” to the Congress over seeking bonhomie at the nation level but having a different episode in the state level. However, the conclave went on “smoothly” de- spite apparent fissures in the Parivar which was never Sangh (together) in real terms. Also, it may be noted that the Congress and the Communist Party of India- Marxist do not see eye-to- eye in Kerala. Now, with Ajit Pawar’s decision, this move will have several af- tershocks to the “newly found” bonhomie between strange partners in an at- tempt to stitch together a coalition or whatever they call it to take on the BJP in the crucial 2024 Lok Sabha elections. With theAjit Pa- war episode culminating… the following are the high- lights of the Maha Saga… IMPORTANCE OF FADNAVIS After apparently lying low, Devendra Fadnavis has again emerged as the mas- termind of Maharashtra politics as he deftly faced veteran Sharad Pawar’s 2019 ‘bouncer’ in India’s major Political League which has surprises and sharp twists galore. WithAjit Pawar’s inclu- sion, Fadnavis has proved to the party’s top brass that given an opportunity, he is capable of playing a cru- cial role. It may be recalled that Fadnavis had to face major embarrassment in 2019 when he formed the gov- ernment with the assis- tance of Ajit Pawar but it (the regime) could last only a few days. Fadnavis’ image had then taken a ma- jor beating especially in the eyes of the party’s cen- tral leadership. But Sunday’s master- stroke has put all this be- hind him. Considering the scenario of the 2024 Lok Sabha election, the BJP had sensed that it would be difficult to ride the Shinde crest alone to ensure vic- tory. And hence, the Sun- day episode has come as a major relief to the BJP as far as ensuring widespread support in Maharashtra as of now is concerned. However, with the Sun- day episode over, and the dust settling, the picture will get clearer and how the Opposition unity will emerge from this crisis and what NCP boss Sharad Pa- war will do to keep his im- age intact will become more evident. But in all this, it may be saidthattheOppositionfirst has to keep their respective (party)claningoodhumour to gain their confidence be- fore they even think of stitching an unity plan whichshouldalsobehighly credible notwithstanding the differences. He (Kushwaha) was made the Leader of the Opposition in the State Assembly in 2000, but parted ways in 2005 to join the NCP. He returned to the JD(U) in 2010 and became a Rajya Sabha member. However, he quit both in 2013. LOOKING BACK In the 2019 Lok Sabha polls, the National Demo- cratic Alliance (NDA) won 39 of Bihar’s 40 seats, with BJP bagging 17, JD(U) 16 and Lok Jan- shakti Party 6. In 2022, the JD(U) parted ways with the NDA, forming the ‘grand alliance’ govern- ment. However, it is to be seen if the JD(U) would get to contest on 16 seats in the 2024 Lok Sabha as part of the six-party ‘grand alliance’, which includes the Congress, RJD and three Left parties. The charge-sheet also named his parents Lalu Prasad Yadav, former Union Railway Minister and Rabri Devi, former chief minister of Bihar. The scam happened when Lalu was the railways minister. During his tenure as railways minister from 2004- 2009 Lalu is alleged to have given Group D jobs to eight people in lieu of land allegedly at a total price of Rs 26 lakh as against its market value of 4.39 crore. The land cumulatively measured nearly one lakh square feet. Some of the land was allegedly pur- chased in Yashaswi’s name. Khalistanis also plan to take out a Khal- istan Freedom Rally in Toronto on July 9. Canada has described the posters as “unacceptable”. Although Canada need not be reminded of its re- sponsibility towards diplomatic missions under the Vienna Convention, the government has to ensure no harm comes to the two diplomats. Khalistan extremists earlier used Pakistan to foment disturbance in India but with increasing condemnation for allowing its soil to be used by terrorist groups it has become a little cautious.
