ajasthan may
hold its tradi-

swing state — a govern-

of exit polls predicted a

The ruling Congress was

Pollsters have predict-

According to the poll of
polls published by agen-

and Congress have a
close tie-up. 7 of 9 exit
polls have predicted a
comfortable victory
for the BJP -- only
two offer Congress
the hope that it might
scrape through. Most
exit polls expect the
BJP numbers to stay

12.60 lakh abstain from casting vote in Jpr
First India Bureau
Jaipur
oth Congress
and BJP leaders
are grappling
with voter apathy, espe-
cially in hotly contested
seats like Jhotwara, Civil
Lines, and Hawamahal in
Jaipur. The number of
voting revealed a con-
cerning trend with 1.22
lakh people in Jhotwara
and 1.03 lakh in Sanganer
abstaining from casting
their votes.
Jhotwara, boasting the
highest number of voters
at 4.28 lakh, witnessed a
significant 28.48% not
participating in the demo-
cratic process. Sanganer,
the second-largest con-
stituency with 3.50 lakh
voters, saw 29.70% of the
electorate abstaining.
The issue extends be-
yond these seats, as
Malviya Nagar and Civil
Lines reported the high-
est percentages of non-
voters at 30.53% and
30.04%, respectively,
among Jaipur’s 19 seats.
In contrast, rural areas
such as Shahpura and
Chomu had higher voter
turnout with only 16%
choosing not to partici-
pate. Analysts attribute
the lower-than-expected
turnout in urban areas
like Chaksu, Sanganer,
Bagru, Malviya Nagar,
and Adarsh Nagar to lo-
cal political dynamics.

In the latest exit poll by
Axis My India for Ra-
jasthan, the Congress
party is anticipated to
make gains. The projec-
tions suggest a range of
80-100 seats for the BJP,
while the Congress is es-
timated to secure 86-106
seats. Additionally, 9-18
seats are expected to go to
other parties.The exit poll
highlights that 17 percent
of voters favored the BJP
due to PM’s influence.
Congress is projected
to be leading in the Bi-
kaner-Dhundhad and
Shekhawati regions,
while the BJP seems
ahead in Hadoti, Merwa-
da, and Marwar.
The Congress has gar-
nered 4 pc more support
from women voters. The
assessment also indicates
that rebels within the BJP
may contribute to more
significant damage. In
specific regions like Had-
oti, signs point to the BJP
securing 11 seats, with the
Congress expected to get
6 seats, while in Shekha-
wati, Congress is project-
ed to gain 12 seats com-
pared to BJP’s 7 seats.
4. fear of death
isn’t promi-
nent among
the leading
causes of
anxiety among people as
they age—becoming a bur-
den to their children and
loneliness rank much high-
er. Yet psychology has long
heldthatthegreatestuncon-
scious fear, hiding beneath
the surface of everyday
thoughts and feelings, is the
fear of death. This is espe-
cially evident if your reli-
gious beliefs offer Heaven
andHellastheonlyalterna-
tives after death, or if you
aresecularandfacethepos-
sibility of extinction with-
out an afterlife.
In practical terms, the
vast majority of people die
with a sense of peace and
acceptance. But no matter
where you fall on the spec-
trum, it would be beneficial
to get past the fear of death.
In the tradition ofYoga and
Vedanta, this fear is based
on an illusion that death ex-
ists in the first place. So
even if you don’t feel emo-
tional distress about death
and dying, clearing up this
illusion will bring you clos-
er to reality, an end that is
desirable in itself.
First, let’s address the fu-
tility of believing in some-
thing that cannot be proved.
No matter where you stand,
your beliefs about death
block the possibility of
moving forward. The faith-
ful put their trust in their
religion; skeptics don’t
budge because they disbe-
lieve all evidence that ar-
guesagainstskepticism;and
undecideds remain stuck in
ambivalence and doubt.
Yet everyone is holding
on to their position in the
absence of first-hand expe-
rience. This renders the
afterlife a non-question
(i.e., there is no reliable
answer). It has been a non-
question for as long as re-
corded history. A tradition
of belief or non-belief
doesn’t become true just
because it has persisted for
centuries. The fundamen-
tal issue is whether the af-
terlife can be transformed
into a viable question.
I believe it can. In a sur-
prisingway,simplydefining
our terms better is enough.
If you don’t specify what
consciousness is, you wind
up worrying about the sur-
vivalofthesoul,orof“me,”
theindividualego-personal-
ity.Ontheotherhand,iftwo
people agree upon their
definition of consciousness,
they will agree on the exist-
ence or non-existence of an
afterlife. This isn’t an arbi-
trary judgment. It rests on a
definition of consciousness
completely detached from
alltraditions,beliefsystems,
and personal stories.
Every reasonable per-
son, I think, will accept that
consciousness in humans is
the awareness of two
things: that we exist and
that we have experiences.
By extension, a reality that
cannot be experienced is
moot. By this measure,
UFOs, angels, the afterlife,
and the quantum vacuum
exist on the same playing
field. They are supposi-
tions and inferences.
If we toss out supposi-
tions and inferences, what
can we truthfully say about
consciousness? By this I
mean what can we say that
no reasonable person will
disagree with? Here is
what I’ve been able to con-
vince people to agree with
over the years.
1 There is only one con-
sciousness. To subdivide
consciousness makes no
sense. Yet when dealing
with everyday life, it’s ob-
vious that we all cling fer-
vently to being individu-
als, outfitted with “my”
family, house, work, body
and mind. To crack this al-
legiance requires argu-
ments like the following:
l When you get wet, do you
call it “my” wet? Some things
happen to us personally but
turn out to have a general
existence.
l If you sing “The Star-
Spangled Banner” as you walk
down the street, did the song
walk down the street with you?
l If you imagine your
mother’s face, where is that
mental image located? The
brain has no pictures in it, and
no light. When you imagine
your mother’s face, you
didn’t consult a directory of
facial characteristics the way
computer recognition software
does–you simply called up
what you wished to see.
l Where is your self located?
There is no neurological evi-
dence of a region of the brain
that contains the self, and
even if researchers claimed
such a region existed, it would
have to contain everything
attached to you as a self,
including your life history.
If these points make
sense, then instead of being
an isolated consciousness,
you are participating in a
field of consciousness that
is the same for everyone in
its essence, even though
everyone carves out a
unique story as life unfolds.
2 The second point is that
this one consciousness can-
not be located in time and
space.Itiseverywhere,allat
once. This point sounds like
a hard sell, but in everyday
lifetheargumentisconvinc-
ingly based upon physics, in
which fundamental fields
are everywhere all at once.
l Cosmologists and quantum
physicists agree that space-
time originated in a domain
(referred to as the zero point,
quantum vacuum state, or the
realm of pure mathematics)
that isn’t in time and space.
l The entire univer-
seemerged from this pre-
created state, which has no
qualities we would recognize,
such as linear time, dimen-
sionality, solidity, energy, etc.
l All creation stories, scientific
or not, converge on the emer-
gence of something out of noth-
ing. Beyond our experience of
reality in spacetime, there is a
field of infinite potential. The
origin of everything is a field of
unbounded possibilities.
l As the reality of space, time,
matter, and energy appeared
and continues to appear, the
existence of consciousness
must also be accounted for.
There are only two viable
possibilities that are taken seri-
ously. The “matter first” position
holds that mind has its origins
in matter and energy (to which
some theorists add informa-
tion). The “mind first” position
holds that consciousness is the
source of everything, including
matter and energy.
3 If there are only these
two positions, how do we
decide between them? In
fact, we don’t have to. If
thereisonlyoneconscious-
ness at the basis of crea-
tion, it must be both mate-
rial and mental. Otherwise,
creation would have to be
divided between one reali-
ty “out there” and another
reality “in here.” In every-
day life we casually as-
sume that these two reali-
ties occupy different do-
mains, the one physical and
objective, the other mental
and subjective. This habit,
known as duality, is actu-
ally the illusion that lies
behind fear of death.
Knowing that our bodies
will perish, we fear that the
mind must suffer the same
fate. But “one conscious-
ness” has no boundaries,
like the quantum field or
the gravity field. There is
no validity to being born
and dying, since both per-
tain to end points and
boundaries that conscious-
ness isn’t subject to. Also,
by seeing through the illu-
sion of two-reality/dualism,
we ditch some vexing non-
questions. For example,
physicalists are certain that
the brain creates the mind.

Expansion of the
Consciousness
Having laid out, in truncat-
ed form, the argument for
consciousness as the ba-
sis of reality, not everyone
may be willing to follow
the clues that lead to an
afterlife. But that isn’t as
important as realizing that
we have tended to ask the
wrong questions. One can
devote a book to untan-
gling the various possibili-
ties for consciousness to
persist after the end of the
body (I wrote one,
titled Life After Death).
In the end, however, the
stubborn way that old
stories cling to us, and we
to them, muddies the is-
sue. Until we all are willing
to think fresh thoughts,
our consciousness will
remain constricted. Fear
is a residue of constricted
awareness, including fear
of death. Only the expan-
sion of consciousness
can finally eradicate it.

RAT-HOLE MINERS’
ROLE AT SILKYARA
fter successfully rescuing 41 workers from
the Silkyara tunnel in Uttarkashi in a remark-
able 17-day effort, it’s crucial to recognize
the heroic endeavors of the rat-hole miners before
they fade into obscurity. Their task, akin to the most
challenging last mile for a marathoner, was both
strenuous and prolonged. Working tirelessly in pairs
for 26 hours under daunting conditions, they were
unwavering in their commitment to safely retrieve
all the trapped workers.
Australian rescuer Arnold Dix deemed the un-
scathed exit of the 41 workers a miracle, particularly
highlighting the astonishing progress of the rat-hole
miners. These miners, working relentlessly to clear
mud, stone, and steel rubble, managed to uncover a
meter’s worth in two hours at a time, ultimately re-
vealing a glimpse of life at the tunnel’s end.
Beyond showcasing their resilience, the rat-hole
miners exemplified the strength of diversity, with
Hindus and Muslims collaborating seamlessly in this
unified effort for the nation, giving their absolute best
to the rescue mission.

he government’s recent decision to extend
free foodgrain distribution to 81 crore people
for an additional five years will be met with
approval, especially from those who heavily depend
on the Centre’s support. Given that the prices of cer-
tain foodgrains remain beyond the economic reach
of the impoverished, this decision provides substan-
tial relief.According to data from November 13, food
inflation is still notably high at 6.61 percent, only
marginally lower than September’s 6.62 percent.
This move also holds political significance for the
BJP, as the extension of this scheme is likely to yield
electoral divi-
dends in the ap-
proaching 2024
elections. The
government’s
decision to ex-
tend the pro-
gramme for five
years serves as a
p r e e m p t i v e
measure against
potential accusa-
tions of voter
bribery from op-
position parties.
Surprisingly,
the financial bur-
den of this wel-
fare scheme is
estimated at Rs 11.80 lakh crore over five years, with
no discernible impact on the Budget deficit and the
exchequer. The government is confident of meeting
the fiscal deficit target for 2023-24, factoring in a
budgeted annual increase of 7 to 8 percent in the
minimum support price of various commodities. The
approval of free ration distribution under the Pradhan
Mantri Garib Kalyan Anna Yojna (PMGKAY) on
November 29, following Prime Minister Narendra
Modi’s announcement during an election rally in
Chhattisgarh, reflects the commitment to welfare.
However, it is imperative to ensure fairness in the
distribution of ration at fair price shops, where ben-
eficiaries allege a high level of corruption.Addition-
ally, there are claims of recipients selling their free
ration, highlighting potential loopholes in the system
that requires attention.

9. FIRST INDIA IS ‘FIRST’AMONGST ITS PEER CHANNELS
BECAUSE OF PEOPLE’S LOVE SUPPORT: Dr CHANDRA

n November 30,
2013 was the
first day, when
First India took its first
step in the realm of ‘Re-
gional Journalism.’From
its days of infancy, to
Nov 30, 2023, First India
has successfully ran a
marathon of ten years.
On the completion of 10
years of taking the voice
of people to the govern-
ment and government’s
pro-people policies to
masses, First India’s
CMD Editor-in-Chief,
Dr Jagdeesh Chandra,
said that First India is
‘first’ amongst its peer
channels because of peo-
ple’s love support.
“I am elated to say that
10 years ago, when
Virendra Choudhary and
Sahdev Choudhary start-
ed a channel, that same
channel is celebrating its
10th anniversary today.
On this occasion, I would
like to thank our crores of
viewers whose love and
faith has brought us here.
Today, First India is the
number one channel in
Rajasthan and in every
village and hamlet, in
every nook and corner of
Raj, First India’s report-
er, correspondent or in-
former is present. Today,
I also promise you that
on day of counting of
votes, the first trends and
results will be given by
First India. We work as a
bridge between people
and the government. Peo-
ple had ascertained that
media means being anti-
establishment. But we
have broken that myth.
Our editorial policy is
crystal clear, we don’t
stand with any particular
person or political party;
rather we are with devel-
opments and news.
Hence, by large, we
are fair independent,
but with support to gov-
ernment on matters and
issues which benefit the
public. We have always
upheld constructive jour-
nalism. Hence within
even outside Raj, people
like to see First India
first,” Dr Chandra said.
Meanwhile, CEO and
Managing Editor of First
India, Pawan Arora said,
“First of all, I would like
to congratulate and
thank, from my and First
India family’s side, the
crores of viewers of First
India channel because of
whom this channel has
reached these heights.
Furthermore, I would
like to congratulate Dr
Sahdev Choudhary
Virendra Choudhary,
who brought this channel
to masses with a think-
ing to give voice to the
rural folk and youth.
Truth be told, 10 years
back, the media scape of
Rajasthan was dominat-
ed by regional channels
operated by renowned
and well- established Na-
tional Media houses. In
such a situation, bringing
a ‘stand alone’ channel
was definitely a brave act
and thus completion of
these ten years makes
one applaud that effort.
Also, I would like to say
that over past 5 years,
this channel has received
guidance and leadership
of JC sir and since then,
this channel hasn’t
looked back and has
reached new echelons of
popularity and created
trust among people. This
channel has never been
among the race of TRPs,
but it is a coincidence
that the BARC ratings
were released today
(Thursday) and once
again, First India tops all
other channels. No
achievement is possible
without a team and I
would like to congratu-
late each and every mem-
ber of this team because
it is due to their dedicated
efforts and hard work
that this channel has
reached such heights and
has carved a niche among
people. This is also the
time to introspect and
work on the roadmap for
the next 10 years and to
prove our mettle on the
aspirations of VC Sir and
JC Sir,” Arora said.
During this, a cake was
cut at the First India of-
fice where each and eve-
ry member of the First
India family was present.

The exit polls of Ra-
jasthan Assembly elec-
tions came on Thursday
but they failed to give
any result. They re-
mained entangled in the
tough competition of the
battle of Rajasthan and
could not form a consen-
sus. Putting all these pre-
dictions together, it is
difficult to predict wheth-
er the tradition of chang-
ing the government every
five years in Rajasthan is
going to continue or
break. Exit polls could
not clear whether the vot-
ers trusted Modi’s guar-
antee or whether it was
the undercurrent work of
the Gehlot government’s
schemes. Some showed
BJP’s lead while some
showed Congress ahead.
This entire situation
can be understood, be-
cause this time there was
no major issue in Ra-
jasthan. Rather, to influ-
ence every section of vot-
ers, parties fielded differ-
ent issues. In such a situ-
ation, it was difficult to
decide which voter
adopted which issue and
which rejected them.
There was clear differ-
ence in voter opinion.
This was shown in the
exit polls. This is the rea-
son that despite showing
the lead of a party, the
difference in estimates of
seats it will get is shown
to be up to twenty seats
each. Generally, the dif-
ference in seat predic-
tions is said to be only
five-seven seats.
Overall, it is clear from
the results of different
exit polls that the elec-
toral contest in Rajasthan
is very tough. This time
the voting percentage has
also increased as com-
pared to the previous
elections. In this also, the
voting percentage of
women has been high on
88 seats. There has been
bumper voting in rural
areas also. Both these
factors are going to in-
crease the enthusiasm for
Congress and the confi-
dence of victory. At the
same time, the huge turn-
out in polarized seats and
the factor of Gurjar vot-
ers in East Rajasthan is
feeding the BJP. In such
a situation, which side
will come out victorious
in Rajasthan will be vis-
ible even after the count-
ing of votes. At present,
the hopes of both BJP
and Congress are still in-
tact that they are going to
form the government.
Anyway, exit poll results
have failed the test of
election results many
times in the past also.
It seems that only
those 60 tightly contested
seats on which the victo-
ry-defeat margin is ex-
pected to be less than five
thousand votes, will clear
the picture of this con-
test.

Along with being curious
over the formation of new
government, another cu-
riosity that has gripped
the State’s bureaucracy is
the suspense over the new
Chief Secretary. It is cer-
tain that apart from the
Chief Minister, there will
also be a new Chief Sec-
retary in the next govern-
ment because the tenure
of Chief Secretary Usha
Sharma, who is on exten-
sion, will also be com-
pleted on December 31.
But before that the ques-
tion remains whether
Usha Sharma will com-
plete the remaining 15-20
days of her tenure after
the arrival of the new
Chief Minister? The an-
swer to this million dollar
question is ‘yes.’ Even if
the Congress government
comes again or BJP
comes to power, in both
the cases Usha Sharma
will complete her current
tenure. However, during
these assembly elections,
BJP had also complained
about Usha Sharma to the
Election Commission.
In 2013, BJP had com-
plained about the then
Chief Secretary CK
Mathew’s bias to the
Election Commission.
Then Mathew went on
leave and CS Rajan took
charge of the Chief Sec-
retary’s office. But this
time, Usha Sharma did
not go on leave even after
complaint. It is well
known that Usha Sharma
had been the Secretary in
various departments at
the Centre for a long
time, hence, her personal
contacts are quite good
with the officials of the
Centre at present.
After completion of
Usha Sharma’s tenure,
Subodh Agarwal is the
most senior, but ED has
become an obstacle in his
path. Then there is
Shubhra Singh at number
2 and Rajeshwar Singh at
number 3. Rajeshwar
Singh is considered close
to the BJP leadership and
has been trying for the
post of Chief Secretary
for a long time. There are
only 7 months left for his
retirement (July, 2024),
so if BJP government is
formed then Rajeshwar
Singh can be obliged.
Shubhra Singh can be-
come Chief Secretary
later also. Along with
Shubhra Singh, Abhay
Kumar (1992 batch) can
also be a contender in
August 2024. There is a
long time left for Abhay
Kumar’s retirement (Au-
gust 2028). At that time
there could also be a pos-
sibility of Tanmay Ku-
mar returning from Del-
hi. But all this will de-
pend on who becomes
the next CM!
