rare feat was
achieved in
the ongoing
third Test of
the India-
England series. Ravi Ash-
win picked up his much
anticipated 500th Test
wicket, a milestone
achieved by just 8 bowlers
before him!As he got Zack
Crawley caught at short
fine leg of a top edge, there
were no wild celebrations
and no big gestures. From
anyone not aware, it would
look like usual celebra-
tions at the fall of a wicket.
Such is the simplicity of
the man that has defined
his career and who is now
the second fastest to reach
the tally in just 98 Tests,
only the second Indian af-
ter Anil Kumble.
During the post-match
interview, Ashwin dedi-
cated his achievement to
his father. Ashwin said, “I
would like to dedicate this
to my father, he’s respon-
sible for everything I’ve
done in my life. I think his
health has gone for a toss
because he’s watched
games of mine on TV and
been a constant support for
me.” But he never got car-
ried away by his emotions
and just moments later
said, “500 wickets done
and dusted now, and we’ve
got a game hanging in the
balance.”
Indeed, if India needs to
win the third Test, they
need Ashwin at the top of
his game as the ‘Bazzball’
has turned this series into a
dog fight, with no side
ready to give up easily. In-
dia though will rue the fact
that their batters did get out
to soft dismissals in the first
innings. After winning the
toss on a flat track, Rohit
Sharma had no hesitation to
bat first. But India faced
early adversity as 3 wickets
fell in quick succession
with the score at 33.
With 2 debutants in the
side, Sarfaraz Khan and
Dhruv Jurel, India sent in
Ashwin’s bowling buddy-
Ravi Jadeja at number 5 to
absorb pressure. His part-
nership with Rohit stead-
ied the Indian innings and
both of them made sure
that no further wickets
were lost till Tea interval.
They accumulated an im-
pressive 204 runs for the
fourth wicket. This marked
India’s first century stand
of the series.
But just as the two were
beginning to unfurl their
full repertoire of strokes,
Rohit departed for a well-
made century.This brought
Sarfaraz Khan to the
crease. There has been a lot
of hype around him and his
selection over the past cou-
ple of years. He has been
scoring heavily in First
Class cricket and averages
over 100 in the last 2 sea-
sons but has been unfortu-
nate on many occasions to
not be selected in the na-
tional team.
Whatever anxiety there
may have been for him
waiting for 4 hours before
walking out to bat, didn’t
show in his body language.
He was calm at the crease
and slowly started to find
his aggression that he is
known for in the domestic
circuit. In a partnership of
77, Sarfaraz scored 62 off
just 66 balls before being
run out. But his captain
and the crowd showed ap-
preciation in the effort put
in by the youngster in just
his first knock at the inter-
national level.
Jadeja, meanwhile, was
making a comeback from
a hamstring injury and
showcased mental clarity
as he crafted a century,
steering India into a com-
manding position at the
end of day 1. However, his
dismissal for 112, early on
day 2 made the English
bowlers confident of keep-
ing the first innings score
under 500, which at one
point looked imminent.
The other debutant, Dhruv
Jurel, played his part in a
finely constructed knock
of 46 along with Ashwin
who made 37.
England had a big total
of 446 in front of them but
started with 5 runs on
board without a ball
bowled due to penalty runs
awarded with Ashwin run-
ning on the protected area
of the pitch in the first in-
nings. Ben Dukcett and
Zack Crawley started a
counterattack that left In-
dia stunned. Especially
Duckett was severe on
anything outside off and
swept strongly to Ashwin.
He reached his century
within the same session
after Tea in just 88 balls
which is the third fastest
against India in the coun-
try. Duckett’s century, in
partnerships with Crawley
and later with Ollie Pope,
placed England in a domi-
nant position at the end of
day 2. They trail India by
238 runs with 8 wickets
remaining on a flat track.
With the series hanging
in the balance, the drama in
Rajkot sets the stage for an
intriguing battle between
two determined and resil-
ient teams. Ashwin though
will be at the centre of it all,
if he manages to find his
mojo, then England will

ontroversies continue to besiege Mamata Ba-

The grim revelations have handed political ammuni-

away such incidents because she has to win elections.
Protecting women from exploitation is an important

That, however, she may not do.

ECONOMIC NATIONALISM
Vocal for Local is essence of Swadeshi Andolan: V-P
First India Bureau
New Delhi
ice-President
JagdeepDhankhar
on Friday drew
attention of trade and
industry bodies to the
“ill-effects of not sub-
scribing to economic
nationalism”.
Terming economic na-
tionalism as “quintessen-
tially fundamental to our
economic growth”, the
Vice-President called for
importing only that
which is “unavoidably
essential”, to prevent the
drain of India’s foreign
exchange, loss of em-
ployment opportunities
for citizens and impedi-
ments in growth of entre-
preneurship.
Highlighting the need
to be “Vocal for Local”,
the Vice-President said
that this spirit was a facet
of ‘Aatmanirbhar
Bharat’, and reflected the
essence of the ‘Swadeshi
Andolan’ during India’s
freedom struggle. Ad-
dressing the Bharat Start-
up and MSMEs Summit
at Dr.Ambedkar Interna-
tional Centre here, he
lauded the effective per-
formance of India’s
MSME sector, and noted
that it was “bringing
about transformational
change in tier 2 3 cities
and in villages.”
Underlining how “af-
firmative governance
coupled with ease of busi-
ness policies and initia-
tives have helped in flour-
ishing of entrepreneur-
ship and spirit of innova-
tion” in the country,
Dhankharcalledforhand-
holding entrepreneurs to
help optimise their perfor-
mance. He also empha-
sised how startups and
MSMEs play a key role in
ensuring a “plateau-type”
rise for a democratic na-
tion like India, so that all
segments of society are
uplifted equitably.
Cautioning against the
export of raw materials
without value addition,
he stated that the twin ad-
vantages of job creation
and rise of entrepreneur-
ship within the country
that flow from such value
addition should not be
sacrificed for the appar-
ent ease of revenue it pro-
vided. “That money may
be easy for the individu-
al, but it is very painful
for the nation,” he under-
scored. “By adding real
value, we can contribute
greatly to the national
economy,” he added.
The Vice-President
noted that “world over,
research and develop-
ment is fuelled, fi-
nanced, promoted and
sustained by industries,
but we lack it here.”

First India Bureau
Jaipur
PM Narendra Modi while
virtually addressing an
event, ‘Viksit Bharat,
Viksit Rajasthan’, in
Jaipur, hit out at the Con-
gress, saying that every-
one is leaving the party
as it is trapped in the vi-
cious circle of nepotism
and dynastic politics.
He also laid the founda-
tion stones of projects
worth about Rs 17,000
crore and inaugurated
various development
works. A big problem
with the Congress is that
it lacks the farsighted-
ness to frame positive
policies. Neither can the
Congress foresee the fu-
ture nor does it have any
road map for it, he said.
“When Modi fulfils his
guarantees, some people
lose sleep. You are look-
ing at the situation of the
Congress, you have re-
cently taught a lesson to
the Congress but it does
not accept it,” he said,

2024, following seven
successful seasons as the
spinoff of the beloved
television sitcom The
Big Bang Theory.
But the good news is,
Young Sheldon was re-
leased on Netflix in No-
vember last year, and to
no one’s but Armitage’s
surprise, it is doing ex-
ceptionally well in terms
of viewership numbers.
Speaking to People ahead
of the Young Sheldon fi-
nale season premiere on
February 15, Iain Armit-
age who plays the titular
character on the show
said; Armitage, 15, who
played Jim Parason’s
younger version on The
Big Bang Theory and
who has been leading its
spin-off series Young
Sheldon on CBS since
2017, told people that he
actually didn’t know the
show was available on
Netflix.
“Randomly, a friend of
mine was like, ‘Yo, I saw
your show on Netflix,’
and I was like, It’s on
Netflix in the U.K. I
don’t know [if] it’s on
Netflix in the U.S. I kind
of didn’t even know we
were on Netflix until I
looked.” Additionally,
the teen star revealed, “I
don’t tend to watch much
TV. I don’t do any of my
own social media. It’s all
run by my mom and also
by sort of my people, I
guess. That sounds so
weird, but I’m not hip
with the kids, so it’s kind
of funny to see that it re-
ally has blown up so
much.” Young Sheldon
starring Iain Armitage
along with Zoe Perry,
Lance Barber, Annie
Potts,and others.
arineeti Chopra recently made
heads turn when she stepped
on the stage for her first-
ever live concert. Her
decision to become a
singer apart from being
an actress and managing 2 careers at the
same time has come as a pleasant sur-
prise for the fans. Although she has sung
songs in some of her films in the past fi-
nally singing in her first-ever live concert
is a different achievement altogether. In a
recent interview, the actress spoke about what
got her to take this decision. Parineeti Chopra
revealed that it was a culmination of 25 years of
thoughts, dreams, and planning that led to this moment.
We all know that her next film is going to be ImtiazAli’s Cham-
kila. This film is a biopic based on the life of popular Punjabi
singer Amar Singh Chamika headlined by Diljit Dosanjh.
Parineeti plays the role of Amarjot Kaur, and she had to
sing multiple songs in this film. Revealing one of the
main reasons she signed this film was because she was
getting to sing some 15 songs for it. The actress fur-
ther revealed that it was during the shoot of this film
that her Chamkila co-star Diljit Dosanjh heard her
sing and asked her to pursue live performances.
Everyone around me used to constantly put
this thought in my head that I could be on
stage.” Parineeti expressed that not just
Diljit Dosanjh and everyone on the sets but
her husband Raghav Chadha also encour-
aged her to sing. “Raghav has known me for only some
time, yet he suggested that I should do live shows.

The T.V. personality

“There’s a lot of ifs in

  • 4. rare feat was achieved in the ongoing third Test of the India- England series. Ravi Ash- win picked up his much anticipated 500th Test wicket, a milestone achieved by just 8 bowlers before him!As he got Zack Crawley caught at short fine leg of a top edge, there were no wild celebrations and no big gestures. From anyone not aware, it would look like usual celebra- tions at the fall of a wicket. Such is the simplicity of the man that has defined his career and who is now the second fastest to reach the tally in just 98 Tests, only the second Indian af- ter Anil Kumble. During the post-match interview, Ashwin dedi- cated his achievement to his father. Ashwin said, “I would like to dedicate this to my father, he’s respon- sible for everything I’ve done in my life. I think his health has gone for a toss because he’s watched games of mine on TV and been a constant support for me.” But he never got car- ried away by his emotions and just moments later said, “500 wickets done and dusted now, and we’ve got a game hanging in the balance.” Indeed, if India needs to win the third Test, they need Ashwin at the top of his game as the ‘Bazzball’ has turned this series into a dog fight, with no side ready to give up easily. In- dia though will rue the fact that their batters did get out to soft dismissals in the first innings. After winning the toss on a flat track, Rohit Sharma had no hesitation to bat first. But India faced early adversity as 3 wickets fell in quick succession with the score at 33. With 2 debutants in the side, Sarfaraz Khan and Dhruv Jurel, India sent in Ashwin’s bowling buddy- Ravi Jadeja at number 5 to absorb pressure. His part- nership with Rohit stead- ied the Indian innings and both of them made sure that no further wickets were lost till Tea interval. They accumulated an im- pressive 204 runs for the fourth wicket. This marked India’s first century stand of the series. But just as the two were beginning to unfurl their full repertoire of strokes, Rohit departed for a well- made century. This brought Sarfaraz Khan to the crease. There has been a lot of hype around him and his selection over the past cou- ple of years. He has been scoring heavily in First Class cricket and averages over 100 in the last 2 sea- sons but has been unfortu- nate on many occasions to not be selected in the na- tional team. Whatever anxiety there may have been for him waiting for 4 hours before walking out to bat, didn’t show in his body language. He was calm at the crease and slowly started to find his aggression that he is known for in the domestic circuit. In a partnership of 77, Sarfaraz scored 62 off just 66 balls before being run out. But his captain and the crowd showed ap- preciation in the effort put in by the youngster in just his first knock at the inter- national level. Jadeja, meanwhile, was making a comeback from a hamstring injury and showcased mental clarity as he crafted a century, steering India into a com- manding position at the end of day 1. However, his dismissal for 112, early on day 2 made the English bowlers confident of keep- ing the first innings score under 500, which at one point looked imminent. The other debutant, Dhruv Jurel, played his part in a finely constructed knock of 46 along with Ashwin who made 37. England had a big total of 446 in front of them but started with 5 runs on board without a ball bowled due to penalty runs awarded with Ashwin run- ning on the protected area of the pitch in the first in- nings. Ben Dukcett and Zack Crawley started a counterattack that left In- dia stunned. Especially Duckett was severe on anything outside off and swept strongly to Ashwin. He reached his century within the same session after Tea in just 88 balls which is the third fastest against India in the coun- try. Duckett’s century, in partnerships with Crawley and later with Ollie Pope, placed England in a domi- nant position at the end of day 2. They trail India by 238 runs with 8 wickets remaining on a flat track. With the series hanging in the balance, the drama in Rajkot sets the stage for an intriguing battle between two determined and resil- ient teams. • 7. ECONOMIC NATIONALISM Vocal for Local is essence of Swadeshi Andolan: V-P First India Bureau New Delhi ice-President JagdeepDhankhar on Friday drew attention of trade and industry bodies to the “ill-effects of not sub- scribing to economic nationalism”. Terming economic na- tionalism as “quintessen- tially fundamental to our economic growth”, the Vice-President called for importing only that which is “unavoidably essential”, to prevent the drain of India’s foreign exchange, loss of em- ployment opportunities for citizens and impedi- ments in growth of entre- preneurship. Highlighting the need to be “Vocal for Local”, the Vice-President said that this spirit was a facet of ‘Aatmanirbhar Bharat’, and reflected the essence of the ‘Swadeshi Andolan’ during India’s freedom struggle. Ad- dressing the Bharat Start- up and MSMEs Summit at Dr.Ambedkar Interna- tional Centre here, he lauded the effective per- formance of India’s MSME sector, and noted that it was “bringing about transformational change in tier 2 3 cities and in villages.” Underlining how “af- firmative governance coupled with ease of busi- ness policies and initia- tives have helped in flour- ishing of entrepreneur- ship and spirit of innova- tion” in the country, Dhankharcalledforhand- holding entrepreneurs to help optimise their perfor- mance. He also empha- sised how startups and MSMEs play a key role in ensuring a “plateau-type” rise for a democratic na- tion like India, so that all segments of society are uplifted equitably. Cautioning against the export of raw materials without value addition, he stated that the twin ad- vantages of job creation and rise of entrepreneur- ship within the country that flow from such value addition should not be sacrificed for the appar- ent ease of revenue it pro- vided. “That money may be easy for the individu- al, but it is very painful for the nation,” he under- scored. “By adding real value, we can contribute greatly to the national economy,” he added.
