scape has
been marred
by violence,
with disturbing reports of
manipulated narratives by
the ruling government
coming to light. As Bengal
completes its Panchayat
elections, a closer examina-
tion reveals a concerning
reality where the ruling
party controls the narrative,
distorting facts, and label-
ling violence as a “tradi-
tion.” This article aims to
shed light on the truth be-
hind the political violence,
emphasising the need for a
balanced approach, ac-
countability, and transpar-
ency during this critical
electoral process.
Skewed Representation
and Manipulation of
Narratives
One of the key findings is
the biased representation in
panel discussions, where
liberal parties dominate the
discourse while marginalis-
ing the BJP.This imbalance
undermines fairness and
objectivity, allowing the
ruling government to avoid
crucial questions and ac-
countability. To ensure a
comprehensive and unbi-
ased discussion, it is essen-
tial to include diverse per-
spectives and hold all par-
ties accountable for their
actions.
Rejecting Violence as
Tradition
Contrary to claims that po-
litical violence is a tradi-
tion, the absence of cultural
heritage in such acts be-
comesapparentuponcloser
examination. Bengal boasts
a rich cultural legacy en-
compassing delicacies like
Rosogolla and art forms
like Rabindra Sangeet, not
the brutal violence wit-
nessed during elections. It
is imperative to reject ex-
cuses and place responsi-
bility on the ruling govern-
ment for maintaining law
and order.
Media Complicity and
the Need for Truth
The report exposes the
complicity of the media in
covering up political vio-
lence, highlighting a histo-
ry of ignored incidents and
downplayed violence. This
raises concerns about trans-
parency and accountability
withinthemedialandscape.
The article calls for a re-
newed commitment to truth
and a courageous challenge
of prevailing narratives to
ensure accurate reporting
and avoid misleading the
public.
Central Forces and
Operational Command
Examining the role of Cen-
tral forces in Bengal elec-
tions, it becomes clear that
they operate under theWest
Bengal State Election
Commission (WBSEC),
appointed by the ruling
TMC government. Under-
standing this chain of com-
mand is crucial in holding
responsible parties ac-
countable for maintaining
law and order during the
completed Panchayat elec-
tions. Accurate reporting
and avoidance of mislead-
ing narratives are essential
to ensure transparency and
a fair electoral process.
Transparency in
Appointment Processes
The report raises questions
about the appointment pro-
cess of State Election Com-
missioners, emphasising
the need for transparency
and accountability in local
body polls. To ensure a fair
and independent process, it
is vital to address any im-
balances of power. The ar-
ticle urges a re-evaluation
of appointment procedures
to uphold the principles of
transparency and account-
ability.
Scrutinizing Motives
behind Advocating for
Ballot Papers
The motives behind advo-
cating for a return to ballot
papers are also examined in
the report. Incidents of
open plundering during
previous Panchayat polls,
expose vulnerabilities in
this voting method. The ar-
ticle calls for a critical ex-
aminationofthesedemands
and accountability for those
advocating for changes in
the electoral system.
Humanising Victims and
Fostering Empathy
A significant emphasis of
the report is placed on hu-
manising the victims of po-
litical violence. Their sto-
ries must be told to high-
light the profound impact
on families and communi-
ties. By humanising the
victims, empathy is fos-
tered, leading to a deeper
understanding of the true
cost of political violence.
The article emphasises the
importance of prioritising
personal narratives in the
pursuit of justice.
Avoiding Trivialisation
and Ensuring
Accountability
It is crucial not to trivialise
the actions of the state gov-
ernment. While incidents
like the arrest of a professor
for sharing a cartoon are
concerning, they should not
overshadow the lives lost
due to political violence.
The media has a responsi-
bility to hold the ruling
government accountable
for effectively addressing
political violence and en-
suring the safety of the
electoral process.
As Bengal completes its
Panchayat elections, it is
vitaltounmaskthetruthbe-
hind political violence and

demanding transparency,
humanising victims, and
promoting accountability,
the media plays a pivotal
role in uncovering the real-
ity. Empowering the public

anipur is still simmering. With two more
cases of gang rape having been reported and
people’s protests continuing, the situation
can’t be described as normal. Adding to the concern
is the threat to Meiteis in Mizoram where Mizos have
a close affinity with Manipur’s Kuki-Zomis. The
government of Mizoram has assured Meiteis of se-
curity. The threat to Meiteis was issued by an or-
ganization of former militants which asked them to
“leave for their own safety”.
This situation could have been averted had the gov-
ernment of Manipur acted swiftly and with a firm hand
without any bias. Mizoram government made quick
security arrangements in the Meitei-dominated areas
to nip any trouble in the bud. Such preventive meas-
ures were not taken in Manipur when protests began.
Women have been soft targets for perverts and the
victors. Comparing Manipur gang rapes with any
other may win a brownie point or two but it should
not be used to deflect criticism against one heinous
act or another.
M
ontrol of Hindu temples has been a conten-
tious issue ever since the CP Ramaswami
Aiyar Commission, constituted by the Gov-
ernment of India in 1960, declared that gov-
ernment control over temples was essential to pre-
vent maladministration.Article 25 (2) of the Consti-
tution also provides for limited control of affairs of
temples.Approximately 400,000 of the total 900,000
Hindu temples are under government control. The
Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh and other Hindu or-
ganisations have been persistently demanding that
government control over temples must. The control,
they say, should be handed over to devotees.
It is not that only devotees mismanage temple af-
fairs. Governments
are also blamed for
improper manage-
ment of temples. In
2014 the Supreme
Court had divested
the Tamil Nadu gov-
ernment of its con-
trol over the
1400-year-old Nata-
raja temple in Chid-
ambaram. While
hearing a case on
temple control, Jus-
tice SA Bobde ob-
served, “We do not
know why govern-
ment officers should
run the temple in Ta-
mil Nadu, there are
many cases of theft
of idols. What are government officers doing?”
Devotees are also not above such lax mismanage-
ment which is why the government thought it was
prudent to keep control of temples in its hands. One
attraction for a hold on temples is the amount of
money offered by devotees. Whoever controls tem-
ples sits over huge piles of cash like in Tirupati and
there are chances of pilferage.
Mohan Bhagwat, the RSS Chief, also insists that
governments should stay away from temples and al-
low devotees to run them. “It is the need of the hour
that temples supply both bhakti and shakti,” Bhag-
wat said.

Prime Minister Narendra
Modi is likely to inaugu-
rate on July 26 the rede-
veloped ITPO complex
here, which will host the
G20 leaders' meeting in
September, official
sources said on Sunday.
The venue, also known
as the Pragati Maidan
complex, has a campus
areaofapproximately123
acres and is India's largest
MICE (Meetings, Incen-
tives, Conferences, and
Exhibitions) destination.
In terms of the covered
space available for
events, the redeveloped
and modern IECC com-
plex finds its place among
the top 10 exhibition and
convention complexes in
the world, rivalling colos-
sal names such as the
Hannover Exhibition
Centre in Germany, the
National Exhibition and
Convention Centre
(NECC) in Shanghai,
they said.
The magnitude of the
IECC's stature and infra-
structure is a testament to
India's capability to host
world-class events on a
grand scale, they said.
At Level-3 of the Con-
vention Centre, a grand
seating capacity for
7,000 people exists, mak-
ing it even larger than the
seating capacity for ap-
proximately 5,500 in the
iconic Sydney Opera
House in Australia.
This impressive fea-
ture establishes the IECC
as a venue fit for hosting
mega conferences, inter-
national summits, and
cultural extravaganzas on
a global scale, they as-
serted.
Officials noted that
exhibition halls offer
seven innovative spaces
for showcasing prod-

ideas. These state-of-
the-art halls provide an
ideal platform for ex-
hibitors and companies
to engage with their tar-

business growth and net-

they added. Among its
many exceptional fea-
tures, the IECC boasts of
a magnificent amphi-

BHAGWAT OVER RISE OF THE COUNTRY
‘40 times more talk of good things happening’

discussion on good things
happening in the country
now is at least 40 times
more than the talk on the
bad things happening.
He was speaking after

Dhankuvrben Babubhai
Dhakan Hospital (Suvar-

vali suburb of north

“Many times negative
discussions are heard.
But when we go around
the country and see, then
we come to know that
there is 40 times more
discussion about the
good things that are hap-
pening, than there is talk
of the bad things happen-
ing in India,” Bhagwat
said. “The reason for the
utkarsh (rise) of the
country today is due to
government’s policies
and the work of responsi-
ble people in govern-
ment. Things are also
running smoothly be-
cause some people don’t
do anything. If they
work, then there will be
problems,” he said.
Bhagwat said that the
desire among people to
see India gain glory is
more powerful today than
it was 40 years ago. “This
should increase. We are
rising but we are yet not
that powerful,” he added.
There are people who
don’t want to see our rise,

about the achievements of the Modi government. The BJP
Mahila Morcha have also made several plans for Navratri

New Delhi: India’s grand-old-party — the Congress
— needs to have heart of a big brother to make sac-
rifices in the political crucial states of Uttar Pradesh,
Punjab, Delhi, Bihar and Maharashtra for the upcoming 2024
Lok Sabha election to keep the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP)
at bay. To its credit, the Congress has thus far managed to
hold two big opposition meetings — one in Bihar and the
other one in Karnataka. The highlight of these meetings was
the renaming of United Progressive Alliance (UPA) to ‘Indian
National Developmental Inclusive Alliance’ or INDIA. The
Congress had contested on 421 seats in 2019 Lok Sabha
elections and was in a direct fight with the BJP at 373 seats.
BJP had contested the 2019 polls on 435 seats while rest of
the seats were contested by its alliance partners.

an Orthodox cathedral,
according to officials.
Oleg Kiper, the gover-
nor of Odesa, said on the
Telegram messaging app
that those wounded in
Sunday’s air attack in-
cluded several children.
“Odesa, another night
attack of the monsters,”
he said. “14 people were
hospitalised in the city’s
hospitals, three of them
were children,” he said.
The assault also de-
stroyed 6 houses and
apartment buildings, he
added.

It is good to enjoy
your success but
only for a brief
period, every success has
to be a stepping stone for a
higher aim.
Dr Jagdeesh Chandra,
CEO Editor-in-Chief, First India
zYour government is
considered to be sensitive
to human suffering. We
have heard about you
that if an untoward inci-
dent takes place, you
reach the spot immedi-
ately.
Pushkar Singh Dhami:
I believe that my stand-
ing with my people in
difficult times does not
end the pain, but some-
where the aggrieved get
some confidence to face
the calamity. I consider
myself one among the
people and it is always
my effort to stand with
my people in happy as
well difficult times.
zYou are a son of
‘Devbhoomi.’ When you
were born in 1975, did
the people from your vil-
lage ever think that this
child would someday go
on to become the Chief
Minister of the state?
See, I also never
thought that I would ever
become something sig-
nificant. I am the son of a
soldier and was born in a
village on the border in
Pithoragarh. Since child-
hood I have seen my
mother working in the
fields, bringing grass and
fodder home and my fa-
ther working as a soldier
in the Army. When I was
a child, I wanted that I
should get to sit in my
parents’ laps and talk to
them, but somehow we
never got the chance. So,
I never thought that I
would become some-
thing one day, but yes, I
had thought that I would
definitely do something.
PM Modiji and the Al-
mighty have given me
the chance to serve the
people of ‘Devbhoomi’
and I strive to spend each
moment of my life for the
people of this state.
zDid you never want to
join the Army? Did your
family members never
ask you to?
I wanted to join the
Army and I prepared ex-
tensively for it as well.
But some situation devel-
oped in the family that
my father stopped me
from joining. He had
served for a long time in
the Army and because of
certain responsibilities at
home, I could not join.
Well, I could not give my
contribution as a soldier,
but I try to make a differ-
ence in the lives of our
people with the same zeal
as a soldier.
zFrom where did you
get the inspiration to en-
ter politics?
I had never thought
that I would be in poli-
tics. I have been a work-
er of the ABVP and
while studying in Luc-
know University, I was a
trained Swayamsevak of
RSS. I have done OTC.
So from there, I contin-
ued working and carry-
ing out the roles assigned
in ABVP and after that
when Uttarakhand was
formed, I had the chance
to fulfil the responsibil-
ity of State President of
BJYM. I travelled to
each and every corner of
Uttarakhand and met
people. That time ND
Tiwariji’s government
was in power and I
worked on protests and
campaigns for youth,
unemployed and the
general public and re-
ceived cooperation from
people. The party as-
signed me work and now
this work has been hand-
ed over to me.
zWhen did you contest
your first election?
In 2012. In the first
election, the voters of the
region gave me a chance
to represent them. It was
a backward region and to
help that region come
forward, I picked up sev-
eral projects and issues.
zBut this time around,
you lost while helping
other candidates win.
You must have felt bad
when the results were
announced.
Not really. However, it
was there that the people
of that constituency had
given me a chance, re-
peatedly, to represent
them.Iwasnotconcerned
about my personal result.
I did feel for sometime
since the overall result
was positive and my own
result was not good, but
still deep down in my
heart, I was not too con-
cerned or pained with the
result or de- motivated. I
felt that my party and PM
Modiji had trusted me so
much that they gave me
such a major responsibil-
ity of contesting on be-
half of the party and BJP
came to power again. So,
I felt that the work as-
signed to me had been
fulfilled. So I never wor-
ried about what will hap-
pen in the future, but I am
indebted to our PM and
party leadership that they
give me a chance to lead
the government.
zWhat makes PM Modi
and Home Minister Amit
Shah trust you so much
that they made you CM
even after you faced de-
feat from your constitu-
ency?
I never asked them for
any responsibility. Nei-
ther did I ask them prior
to the election and defi-
nitely not after the polls.
But I am indebted to
them that PM Modiji,
Amit Shahji, Nadda ji
and all of our leadership
gave me a chance to
serve the people.And the
promises that we made to
the people of Uttara-
khand, we are fulfilling
those promises.
zYou are the youngest
CM of the country and
the face of Uttarakhand.
When was the first time
that you met PM Modi?
I met him several times
in various programmes
and he has been the ‘Star
Campaigner’ for the par-
ty in various elections.
Without his presence, no
election, in which I con-
tested, would be com-
pleted. But after the re-
sponsibility of CM was
given to me, I went to
meet PM after taking the
oath. The meeting time
was a little restricted, but
when I went, I felt this
too was enough. It was
not official, but I was told
that about 15 or 20 min-
utes would be my time
with PM, but then I
thought that since I am
meeting the PM for the
first time, so I was writ-
ing down several issues
and reading them also.
Frankly, I was a bit nerv-
ous too since he has a
great persona and is a
‘Global Leader,’so I was
wondering what he
would ask me. So when I
entered his room, I
though PM might be in
another room, but I was
suddenly greeted by his
voice and he said ‘Aaiye
Dhami ji,’ and I was sur-
prised that PM was al-
ready sitting there. Since
it was Corona time, he
was wearing a mask and
I too was wearing a mask.
In fact, I was so nervous
that I was not even look-
ing towards him. He
asked me to take off my
mask and we sat on a
nearby sofa. For the first
few minutes, I felt that I
am in presence of the
biggest leader of the
world, but after that,
when he started talking to
me, I don’t know what
happened, he perhaps has
some sort of a magnetic
quality about him, some
divine power, that I for-
got everything else and
got so engrossed in talk-
ing with him. I had about
20 minutes time sched-
uled with him, but I did
not even realise when
that time swelled to al-
most two hours. He
would say something
once and I would respond
to that. It was the most
engaging and memorable
meeting I had with PM
Modi.
zAs a citizen, how do
you see the nine-year
tenure of the Prime Min-
ister?
I can say that in the
history of Independent
India, the amount of
work he has done for the
poor, for the destitute,
for women, for the back-
ward classes, for tribals,
for the scheduled classes
and for every section of
our society, in the nine
year tenure of PM
Modi’s government,
none of the sections has
been left untouched.
Governments that have
ruled the nation in the
past used to make poli-
cies and projects for
some sections, but in PM
Modiji’s time, plans and
policies have been made
for those, who actually
need such plans and pol-
icies.
zWhy does he like Utta-
rakhand so much? He
has said that the next
decade is of Uttara-
khand.
See, PM Modi has a
‘Karma aur Marma’rela-
tion with Uttarakhand. I
was born and raised in
Uttarakhand and have
seen majority of the state,
but there still are several
areas and places about
which not much is
known, but PM Modiji
knows about those areas
and places which people
like us also do not know.
And every month, I go
and meet him for guid-
ance and each time he
asks me for information
about everything. Look
at the rebuilding of Ke-
darnath Temple after the
calamity that hit us! We
appeal to people to com-
plete the journey once the
weather changes, but it is
the feeling of people to-
wards Baba Kedar and
PM has added another
factor the Kedar Temple.
Work on Badrinathji’s
master plan is going on
along with all-weather
roads for Char Dham. Be
it ropeway for Hemkund
Sahib or Kedarnath, in
the coming times, it will
be nothing less than a
miracle for the people
coming here from across
the world. Right now it
takes a few days to com-
plete the yatra, but in the
coming times, it will only
take a few hours to com-
plete it, be it Hemkund
Sahib or Kedarnath
yatra. Similarly, Kailash
Mansarovar yatra would
be done through road.
Apart from this, railways
in the hills, the kids today
might have seen it on the
phone or television, but
not in person. Now work
is going on for rail tracks
from Rishikesh to Kar-
naprayag due to PM Nar-
endra Modiji.
He has approved
‘Navratnas’ of develop-
ment for Uttarakhand
and work on them is go-
ing on in full swing and
he himself says that he
has a ‘Karma and Mar-
ma’ relation with ‘Devb-
hoomi’ Uttarakhand.And
thus, in these nine years,
all that has happened in
Uttarakhand, if we com-
pare it with the 66 years
of works done after Inde-
pendence, these nine
years would outweigh
those nearly seven dec-
ades of works. So, people
from Uttarakhand love
PM as much as PM loves
this land and its people.
And there is a reason for
that. Since the time PM
Modi started leading the
nation from 2014, the
five Lok Sabha seats of
Uttarakhand were won
over by BJP by a huge
margin. After that in
2017, when the Uttara-
khand Assembly elec-
tions were held, BJP
formed the government
with a massive majority
of 58 seats. It was PM’s
charismatic leadership.
Then the election for
2019 Lok Sabha came
and in those general elec-
tions, our party received
more votes as compared
to 2014. Now you will
see that in the 2024 elec-
tions, people from ‘Devb-
hoomi’ will give an even
bigger vote share to PM
Modi because people
here have seen that
Modiji has not worked
like a Prime Minister, but
like a son or a brother and
he has taken care of peo-
ple like a guardian during
Corona times. So, the
love he has for the people
of Uttarakhand is im-
mense and the people
reciprocate the same love
for him.
In a tête-à-tête with Dr Jagdeesh Chandra, CEO and Editor-in-Chief, Bharat24-Vision of New India and First India
CMD, First India News, Uttarakhand CM Pushkar Singh Dhami reveals how Prime Minister Narendra Modi
patiently groomed him from a nervous youth into a mature Chief Minister, how PM has acted as a son, brother
and a guardian to the people of Uttarakhand, especially in times of calamity, how Dhami himself wanted to
join the Army but fate had other things planned for him and how he believes that in 2024 elections, people
will give an even bigger vote share than 2014 and 2019 elections as a token of love for PM Modi. Excerpts....

STAY HYDRATED
While the cooler weather might make you
feel less thirsty, it's essential to stay hydrat-
ed during the monsoon. Drink an adequate
amount of water throughout the day to flush
out toxins from your body and maintain
proper bodily functions.
NUTRITION-RICH DIET
Incorporate a balanced diet rich in vitamins
and minerals to boost your immunity.
Include seasonal fruits like apples,
pears, and pomegranates,
which can provide essen-
tial nutrients and help
protect against com-
mon monsoon
illnesses.
AVOID
STAGNANT WATER
Stagnant water becomes breeding
grounds for mosquitoes and other in-
sects, leading to the spread of diseases
like dengue and malaria. Ensure that
there are no waterlogging issues
around your home and take preventive
measures against mosquito bites.
MAINTAIN PERSONAL
HYGIENE
With the increased risk of bacterial and viral
infections during the monsoon, maintaining
personal hygiene is vital. Regularly wash
your hands with soap and water, especially
before eating, after using the restroom, or
after touching public surfaces.
EXERCISE REGULARLY
Don't let the rainy season deter you from
staying active. Engage in indoor exercises or
opt for outdoor activities during brief breaks
in the rain. Regular physical activity helps
improve immunity and overall well-being.
PROPER FOOT CARE
Monsoon often brings muddy and water-
logged streets. Ensure to keep your feet
clean and dry to prevent fungal infections
like athlete's foot. Use antifungal powders
or creams if needed.
AVOID SELF-MEDICATION
If you experience any symptoms of illness
during the monsoon, avoid self-medicating
and consult a healthcare professional for
proper diagnosis and treatment.
STAY INFORMED
Keepyourselfupdatedwithweatherforecasts
and advisories to plan your activities accord-
ingly.Avoid venturing out during heavy rains
or storms to ensure your safety.
KEEP YOUR LIVING
SPACES CLEAN
Monsoon can create a favorable environ-
ment for the growth of molds and mildew.
Regularly clean and ventilate your living
spaces to prevent the accumulation of
moisture.
By taking these measures and men-
tioned tips, you can enjoy the
monsoon season to the fullest
while safeguarding your health
and well-being in Jaipur.
Embrace the beauty of the rainy
season while staying fit and
fine!

HEALTH GUIDE
Monsoon, with its refreshing showers and pleasant temperatures, indeed brings relief to people from the
scorching heat of summer. However, it also brings with it certain health risks due to the increased humidity
and moisture in the air, making it crucial to pay special attention to one's well-being during this season.

  • 4. engal’s po- litical land- scape has been marred by violence, with disturbing reports of manipulated narratives by the ruling government coming to light. As Bengal completes its Panchayat elections, a closer examina- tion reveals a concerning reality where the ruling party controls the narrative, distorting facts, and label- ling violence as a “tradi- tion.” This article aims to shed light on the truth be- hind the political violence, emphasising the need for a balanced approach, ac- countability, and transpar- ency during this critical electoral process. Skewed Representation and Manipulation of Narratives One of the key findings is the biased representation in panel discussions, where liberal parties dominate the discourse while marginalis- ing the BJP.This imbalance undermines fairness and objectivity, allowing the ruling government to avoid crucial questions and ac- countability. To ensure a comprehensive and unbi- ased discussion, it is essen- tial to include diverse per- spectives and hold all par- ties accountable for their actions. Rejecting Violence as Tradition Contrary to claims that po- litical violence is a tradi- tion, the absence of cultural heritage in such acts be- comesapparentuponcloser examination. Bengal boasts a rich cultural legacy en- compassing delicacies like Rosogolla and art forms like Rabindra Sangeet, not the brutal violence wit- nessed during elections. It is imperative to reject ex- cuses and place responsi- bility on the ruling govern- ment for maintaining law and order. Media Complicity and the Need for Truth The report exposes the complicity of the media in covering up political vio- lence, highlighting a histo- ry of ignored incidents and downplayed violence. This raises concerns about trans- parency and accountability withinthemedialandscape. The article calls for a re- newed commitment to truth and a courageous challenge of prevailing narratives to ensure accurate reporting and avoid misleading the public. Central Forces and Operational Command Examining the role of Cen- tral forces in Bengal elec- tions, it becomes clear that they operate under theWest Bengal State Election Commission (WBSEC), appointed by the ruling TMC government. Under- standing this chain of com- mand is crucial in holding responsible parties ac- countable for maintaining law and order during the completed Panchayat elec- tions. Accurate reporting and avoidance of mislead- ing narratives are essential to ensure transparency and a fair electoral process. Transparency in Appointment Processes The report raises questions about the appointment pro- cess of State Election Com- missioners, emphasising the need for transparency and accountability in local body polls. To ensure a fair and independent process, it is vital to address any im- balances of power. The ar- ticle urges a re-evaluation of appointment procedures to uphold the principles of transparency and account- ability. Scrutinizing Motives behind Advocating for Ballot Papers The motives behind advo- cating for a return to ballot papers are also examined in the report. Incidents of open plundering during previous Panchayat polls, expose vulnerabilities in this voting method. The ar- ticle calls for a critical ex- aminationofthesedemands and accountability for those advocating for changes in the electoral system. Humanising Victims and Fostering Empathy A significant emphasis of the report is placed on hu- manising the victims of po- litical violence. Their sto- ries must be told to high- light the profound impact on families and communi- ties. By humanising the victims, empathy is fos- tered, leading to a deeper understanding of the true cost of political violence. The article emphasises the importance of prioritising personal narratives in the pursuit of justice. Avoiding Trivialisation and Ensuring Accountability It is crucial not to trivialise the actions of the state gov- ernment. While incidents like the arrest of a professor for sharing a cartoon are concerning, they should not overshadow the lives lost due to political violence. The media has a responsi- bility to hold the ruling government accountable for effectively addressing political violence and en- suring the safety of the electoral process. As Bengal completes its Panchayat elections, it is vitaltounmaskthetruthbe- hind political violence and manipulated narratives. By demanding transparency, humanising victims, and promoting accountability, the media plays a pivotal role in uncovering the real- ity. Empowering the public withaccurateinformationis crucialforanuancedunder- standing of the challenges faced in Bengal’s political landscape during this cru- cial electoral process. Understanding this chain of command is crucial in holding responsible parties accountable for maintaining law and order during the completed Panchayat polls IN-DEPTH All’s not well in simmering Manipur MANIPULATEDNARRATIVESEXPOSED AMIDSTPANCHAYATPOLLS BHAGWAT’S PLEA ON TEMPLE CONTROL anipur is still simmering. With two more cases of gang rape having been reported and people’s protests continuing, the situation can’t be described as normal. Adding to the concern is the threat to Meiteis in Mizoram where Mizos have a close affinity with Manipur’s Kuki-Zomis. The government of Mizoram has assured Meiteis of se- curity. The threat to Meiteis was issued by an or- ganization of former militants which asked them to “leave for their own safety”. This situation could have been averted had the gov- ernment of Manipur acted swiftly and with a firm hand without any bias. Mizoram government made quick security arrangements in the Meitei-dominated areas to nip any trouble in the bud. Such preventive meas- ures were not taken in Manipur when protests began. Women have been soft targets for perverts and the victors. Comparing Manipur gang rapes with any other may win a brownie point or two but it should not be used to deflect criticism against one heinous act or another. M ontrol of Hindu temples has been a conten- tious issue ever since the CP Ramaswami Aiyar Commission, constituted by the Gov- ernment of India in 1960, declared that gov- ernment control over temples was essential to pre- vent maladministration.Article 25 (2) of the Consti- tution also provides for limited control of affairs of temples.Approximately 400,000 of the total 900,000 Hindu temples are under government control. The Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh and other Hindu or- ganisations have been persistently demanding that government control over temples must. The control, they say, should be handed over to devotees. It is not that only devotees mismanage temple af- fairs. Governments are also blamed for improper manage- ment of temples. In 2014 the Supreme Court had divested the Tamil Nadu gov- ernment of its con- trol over the 1400-year-old Nata- raja temple in Chid- ambaram. While hearing a case on temple control, Jus- tice SA Bobde ob- served, “We do not know why govern- ment officers should run the temple in Ta- mil Nadu, there are many cases of theft of idols. What are government officers doing?” Devotees are also not above such lax mismanage- ment which is why the government thought it was prudent to keep control of temples in its hands. One attraction for a hold on temples is the amount of money offered by devotees. Whoever controls tem- ples sits over huge piles of cash like in Tirupati and there are chances of pilferage. Mohan Bhagwat, the RSS Chief, also insists that governments should stay away from temples and al- low devotees to run them. “It is the need of the hour that temples supply both bhakti and shakti,” Bhag- wat said. The venue, also known as the Pragati Maidan complex, has a campus areaofapproximately123 acres and is India's largest MICE (Meetings, Incen- tives, Conferences, and Exhibitions) destination. In terms of the covered space available for events, the redeveloped and modern IECC com- plex finds its place among the top 10 exhibition and convention complexes in the world, rivalling colos- sal names such as the Hannover Exhibition Centre in Germany, the National Exhibition and Convention Centre (NECC) in Shanghai, they said. The magnitude of the IECC's stature and infra- structure is a testament to India's capability to host world-class events on a grand scale, they said. At Level-3 of the Con- vention Centre, a grand seating capacity for 7,000 people exists, mak- ing it even larger than the seating capacity for ap- proximately 5,500 in the iconic Sydney Opera House in Australia. This impressive fea- ture establishes the IECC as a venue fit for hosting mega conferences, inter- national summits, and cultural extravaganzas on a global scale, they as- serted. Officials noted that exhibition halls offer seven innovative spaces for showcasing prod- ucts, innovations, and ideas. These state-of- the-art halls provide an ideal platform for ex- hibitors and companies to engage with their tar- get audience, fostering business growth and net- working opportunities, they added. BHAGWAT OVER RISE OF THE COUNTRY ‘40 times more talk of good things happening’ PTI Mumbai SS chief Mohan Bhagwat on Sunday said the discussion on good things happening in the country now is at least 40 times more than the talk on the bad things happening. He was speaking after inaugurating Shrimati Dhankuvrben Babubhai Dhakan Hospital (Suvar- na Hospital) in Kandi- vali suburb of north Mumbai in the presence of Maharashtra Deputy Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis. “Many times negative discussions are heard. But when we go around the country and see, then we come to know that there is 40 times more discussion about the good things that are hap- pening, than there is talk of the bad things happen- ing in India,” Bhagwat said. “The reason for the utkarsh (rise) of the country today is due to government’s policies and the work of responsi- ble people in govern- ment. Things are also running smoothly be- cause some people don’t do anything. If they work, then there will be problems,” he said. Bhagwat said that the desire among people to see India gain glory is more powerful today than it was 40 years ago. “This should increase. We are rising but we are yet not that powerful,” he added. Massive crowds rally in Israel as vote on judicial overhaul looms Agencies Tel Aviv Tens of thousands of Is- raelis have marched into Jerusalem and more pro- testers took to the streets in Tel Aviv in a last-ditch show of force aimed at blocking PM Benjamin Netanyahu’s contentious judicial overhaul plan. The bill would limit the Supreme Court’s powers to void what it considers “unreasonable” government or ministeri- al decisions. Critics view the legislation as a threat to Israel’s democracy. • 9. www.firstindia.co.in firstindia.co.in/epapers/jaipur thefirstindia thefirstindia thefirstindia Postal Reg No. JPC/004/2022-24 08 Jaipur, Monday | July 24, 2023 It is good to enjoy your success but only for a brief period, every success has to be a stepping stone for a higher aim. Dr Jagdeesh Chandra, CEO Editor-in-Chief, First India zYour government is considered to be sensitive to human suffering. We have heard about you that if an untoward inci- dent takes place, you reach the spot immedi- ately. Pushkar Singh Dhami: I believe that my stand- ing with my people in difficult times does not end the pain, but some- where the aggrieved get some confidence to face the calamity. I consider myself one among the people and it is always my effort to stand with my people in happy as well difficult times. zYou are a son of ‘Devbhoomi.’ When you were born in 1975, did the people from your vil- lage ever think that this child would someday go on to become the Chief Minister of the state? See, I also never thought that I would ever become something sig- nificant. I am the son of a soldier and was born in a village on the border in Pithoragarh. Since child- hood I have seen my mother working in the fields, bringing grass and fodder home and my fa- ther working as a soldier in the Army. When I was a child, I wanted that I should get to sit in my parents’ laps and talk to them, but somehow we never got the chance. So, I never thought that I would become some- thing one day, but yes, I had thought that I would definitely do something. PM Modiji and the Al- mighty have given me the chance to serve the people of ‘Devbhoomi’ and I strive to spend each moment of my life for the people of this state. zDid you never want to join the Army? Did your family members never ask you to? I wanted to join the Army and I prepared ex- tensively for it as well. But some situation devel- oped in the family that my father stopped me from joining. He had served for a long time in the Army and because of certain responsibilities at home, I could not join. Well, I could not give my contribution as a soldier, but I try to make a differ- ence in the lives of our people with the same zeal as a soldier. zFrom where did you get the inspiration to en- ter politics? I had never thought that I would be in poli- tics. I have been a work- er of the ABVP and while studying in Luc- know University, I was a trained Swayamsevak of RSS. I have done OTC. So from there, I contin- ued working and carry- ing out the roles assigned in ABVP and after that when Uttarakhand was formed, I had the chance to fulfil the responsibil- ity of State President of BJYM. I travelled to each and every corner of Uttarakhand and met people. That time ND Tiwariji’s government was in power and I worked on protests and campaigns for youth, unemployed and the general public and re- ceived cooperation from people. The party as- signed me work and now this work has been hand- ed over to me. zWhen did you contest your first election? In 2012. In the first election, the voters of the region gave me a chance to represent them. It was a backward region and to help that region come forward, I picked up sev- eral projects and issues. zBut this time around, you lost while helping other candidates win. You must have felt bad when the results were announced. Not really. However, it was there that the people of that constituency had given me a chance, re- peatedly, to represent them.Iwasnotconcerned about my personal result. I did feel for sometime since the overall result was positive and my own result was not good, but still deep down in my heart, I was not too con- cerned or pained with the result or de- motivated. I felt that my party and PM Modiji had trusted me so much that they gave me such a major responsibil- ity of contesting on be- half of the party and BJP came to power again. So, I felt that the work as- signed to me had been fulfilled. So I never wor- ried about what will hap- pen in the future, but I am indebted to our PM and party leadership that they give me a chance to lead the government. zWhat makes PM Modi and Home Minister Amit Shah trust you so much that they made you CM even after you faced de- feat from your constitu- ency? I never asked them for any responsibility. Nei- ther did I ask them prior to the election and defi- nitely not after the polls. But I am indebted to them that PM Modiji, Amit Shahji, Nadda ji and all of our leadership gave me a chance to serve the people. And the promises that we made to the people of Uttara- khand, we are fulfilling those promises. zYou are the youngest CM of the country and the face of Uttarakhand. When was the first time that you met PM Modi? I met him several times in various programmes and he has been the ‘Star Campaigner’ for the par- ty in various elections. Without his presence, no election, in which I con- tested, would be com- pleted. But after the re- sponsibility of CM was given to me, I went to meet PM after taking the oath. The meeting time was a little restricted, but when I went, I felt this too was enough. It was not official, but I was told that about 15 or 20 min- utes would be my time with PM, but then I thought that since I am meeting the PM for the first time, so I was writ- ing down several issues and reading them also. Frankly, I was a bit nerv- ous too since he has a great persona and is a ‘Global Leader,’so I was wondering what he would ask me. So when I entered his room, I though PM might be in another room, but I was suddenly greeted by his voice and he said ‘Aaiye Dhami ji,’ and I was sur- prised that PM was al- ready sitting there. Since it was Corona time, he was wearing a mask and I too was wearing a mask. In fact, I was so nervous that I was not even look- ing towards him. He asked me to take off my mask and we sat on a nearby sofa. For the first few minutes, I felt that I am in presence of the biggest leader of the world, but after that, when he started talking to me, I don’t know what happened, he perhaps has some sort of a magnetic quality about him, some divine power, that I for- got everything else and got so engrossed in talk- ing with him. I had about 20 minutes time sched- uled with him, but I did not even realise when that time swelled to al- most two hours. He would say something once and I would respond to that. It was the most engaging and memorable meeting I had with PM Modi. zAs a citizen, how do you see the nine-year tenure of the Prime Min- ister? I can say that in the history of Independent India, the amount of work he has done for the poor, for the destitute, for women, for the back- ward classes, for tribals, for the scheduled classes and for every section of our society, in the nine year tenure of PM Modi’s government, none of the sections has been left untouched. Governments that have ruled the nation in the past used to make poli- cies and projects for some sections, but in PM Modiji’s time, plans and policies have been made for those, who actually need such plans and pol- icies. zWhy does he like Utta- rakhand so much? He has said that the next decade is of Uttara- khand. See, PM Modi has a ‘Karma aur Marma’rela- tion with Uttarakhand. I was born and raised in Uttarakhand and have seen majority of the state, but there still are several areas and places about which not much is known, but PM Modiji knows about those areas and places which people like us also do not know. And every month, I go and meet him for guid- ance and each time he asks me for information about everything. Look at the rebuilding of Ke- darnath Temple after the calamity that hit us! We appeal to people to com- plete the journey once the weather changes, but it is the feeling of people to- wards Baba Kedar and PM has added another factor the Kedar Temple. Work on Badrinathji’s master plan is going on along with all-weather roads for Char Dham. Be it ropeway for Hemkund Sahib or Kedarnath, in the coming times, it will be nothing less than a miracle for the people coming here from across the world. Right now it takes a few days to com- plete the yatra, but in the coming times, it will only take a few hours to com- plete it, be it Hemkund Sahib or Kedarnath yatra. Similarly, Kailash Mansarovar yatra would be done through road. Apart from this, railways in the hills, the kids today might have seen it on the phone or television, but not in person. Now work is going on for rail tracks from Rishikesh to Kar- naprayag due to PM Nar- endra Modiji. He has approved ‘Navratnas’ of develop- ment for Uttarakhand and work on them is go- ing on in full swing and he himself says that he has a ‘Karma and Mar- ma’ relation with ‘Devb- hoomi’ Uttarakhand. And thus, in these nine years, all that has happened in Uttarakhand, if we com- pare it with the 66 years of works done after Inde- pendence, these nine years would outweigh those nearly seven dec- ades of works. So, people from Uttarakhand love PM as much as PM loves this land and its people. And there is a reason for that. Since the time PM Modi started leading the nation from 2014, the five Lok Sabha seats of Uttarakhand were won over by BJP by a huge margin. After that in 2017, when the Uttara- khand Assembly elec- tions were held, BJP formed the government with a massive majority of 58 seats. It was PM’s charismatic leadership. Then the election for 2019 Lok Sabha came and in those general elec- tions, our party received more votes as compared to 2014. Now you will see that in the 2024 elec- tions, people from ‘Devb- hoomi’ will give an even bigger vote share to PM Modi because people here have seen that Modiji has not worked like a Prime Minister, but like a son or a brother and he has taken care of peo- ple like a guardian during Corona times. So, the love he has for the people of Uttarakhand is im- mense and the people reciprocate the same love for him. In a tête-à-tête with Dr Jagdeesh Chandra, CEO and Editor-in-Chief, Bharat24-Vision of New India and First India CMD, First India News, Uttarakhand CM Pushkar Singh Dhami reveals how Prime Minister Narendra Modi patiently groomed him from a nervous youth into a mature Chief Minister, how PM has acted as a son, brother and a guardian to the people of Uttarakhand, especially in times of calamity, how Dhami himself wanted to join the Army but fate had other things planned for him and how he believes that in 2024 elections, people will give an even bigger vote share than 2014 and 2019 elections as a token of love for PM Modi. Drink an adequate amount of water throughout the day to flush out toxins from your body and maintain proper bodily functions. NUTRITION-RICH DIET Incorporate a balanced diet rich in vitamins and minerals to boost your immunity. Include seasonal fruits like apples, pears, and pomegranates, which can provide essen- tial nutrients and help protect against com- mon monsoon illnesses. AVOID STAGNANT WATER Stagnant water becomes breeding grounds for mosquitoes and other in- sects, leading to the spread of diseases like dengue and malaria. Ensure that there are no waterlogging issues around your home and take preventive measures against mosquito bites. MAINTAIN PERSONAL HYGIENE With the increased risk of bacterial and viral infections during the monsoon, maintaining personal hygiene is vital. Regularly wash your hands with soap and water, especially before eating, after using the restroom, or after touching public surfaces. EXERCISE REGULARLY Don't let the rainy season deter you from staying active. Engage in indoor exercises or opt for outdoor activities during brief breaks in the rain. Regular physical activity helps improve immunity and overall well-being. PROPER FOOT CARE Monsoon often brings muddy and water- logged streets.
