rime Minister Nar-
endra Modiji is
very, very insightful
when it comes to
music. He under-
stands the power music has to
touch lives, to translate from one
continent onto another without
even speaking. He had an idea
when I met him in a Grammy in
December 2022. He said “Fal-
guni, why don’t you use music as
a powerhouse, as a power tool to
spread the message of awareness
of millets? It is a very superior
grain in many ways.” Prime Min-
ister’s idea was to use millets as
the best super grain in the world
and promote it to every corner of
the world. This idea that he used
music as a powerful tool to really
fight against this hunger problem
is a very smart idea and the whole
song was actually his vision. We
very, very gently asked our beau-
tiful, amazing Prime Minister to
see if he would contribute by his
speech. And yes, we got that ac-
ceptance. He said he would write
a speech, and narrate a speech in
his own words, in his own voice,
in the song. And then, there were
versions we sent him. The first
version came in, we sent it to him,
we got the feedback, we then kind
of changed a little bit here and
there, we made his vision more
prominent because we wanted to
make sure we really captured
what he wants from the song and
deliver that!
‘MODI HAI TO MUMKIN HAI…’ UNTOLD STORIES OF PM MODI — PART 50
PRIME MINISTER NARENDRA MODI
AMYSTICANDAMATRABHAKT
PMModi’spowertoenvisionandimplementissingular
The narrators share the sentiment that PM Modi is the change we have always wished for. Not just because he is a true lover of Bharat Mata who
has revived the spiritual legacy of India, but also because he thinks like a Vishwa Guru, always thinking of the world has one big family, and
he the caretaker, incessantly striving to make life better for each living soul. His focus on millets as a super grain is just one of the ways in
which he manifests this love for the world and amalgamating the idea with the transcendental power of music is PM Modi’s genius!
MODI IS THE CHANGE WE
HAVE ALWAYS WISHED FOR
y recollections span
the period from the
emergency in India
in 1975 until the mid
1990s. Was it first
when George Fernandes was stay-
ing in disguise in our home in Del-
hi during the emergency or at the
residenceofBabuTrilokSingh,my
senior colleague in the Rajya Sab-
ha, I am not very certain when I
first met or got to know Narendra
bhai. He was with the RSS and
later with the BJP. We both were
from Gujarat and we both spoke
Gujarati. Although he was many
years younger, I felt him to be like
a younger brother. He returned my
sentiment with all the love and af-
fectionthatanoldersistergets.One
of the most endearing things my
grandfather, Gandhi taught me that
leading a simple life does not take
away the responsibility to be clean,
neatly dressed and always present-
able. Narendra bhai reminded me
of my grandfather’s teachings. He
was always unerringly punctual,
always neatly attired and always
warm and ever ready to help. He
continues to be so even today.
My college education was in
Nagpur and I knew Narendra bhai
was in the RSS. And I could see
how the RSS has instilled in him
these excellent qualities. On a side

few organizations that have kept
alive the basic Gandhian thought
on stressing on Anushasan, that is
discipline, punctuality, Swachhta,

made in India, Swavlamban, i.e.
self-reliance, Swadharma, one’s
duty. The divine and Narendra
bhai’s own will power have in-
stilled these qualities in him in am-
ple measure. Those were turbulent
years in the politics of India. Sec-
tarian politics was eating away at
the national fabric and the decades
of 70s, 80s and 90s added regional
challenges. So these issues natu-
rally became topics for informal
discussion also.
As a Rajya Sabha member from
Gujarat, I was deeply worried
about the heavy infiltration from
Pakistan to the border districts of
Gujarat and the demographic
change that such infiltration was
bringing. Although I had shared
this many times with Mrs Indira
Gandhi, no one in the Congress
partytookseriousnoteofthisissue.
But I clearly remember how Nar-
endra bhai showed keen interest in
myconcern.Evenattheyoungage,
Isensedakeenintellectandamind
that observed and cared about such
matters.We had a discussion about
it and he fully understood that the
stability of our border region was
fundamental to the stability of In-
dia. His youth and the clarity of
thought that he brought was re-
freshing.Hewasclearlycommitted
tonationalissuesandthepoliticsof
the moment didn’t seem to diffuse
hisfocuseventhoughinthosedays
he was fully seized with the chal-
lenges that rural women faced, es-
pecially with regards to personal
hygiene and access to clean drink-
ing water, stable electricity supply,
primary health for their families
etc. Later on till he became BJP
inchargeofHimachalandHaryana,
he seemed to have a false impres-
sionthatIhadtravelledextensively
abroad. I clearly remember how he
would often invite me and urge me
to visit Himachal Pradesh and ex-
perience its pristine natural beauty.
He would passionately extol the
beauty of the Himalayas and wish
thatsomedayourpeoplewouldap-
preciate and value our own natural
beauty in Bharat as they do for
Swtizerland and the other nations.
Bapuji always told us that we
must be the change we wish to
see. Narendra bhai is a change we
have all wished to see for our be-
loved Bharat.Although true to his
personality, Narendra bhai him-
self does not realise how impor-
tant he is to the future of Bharat
and how significant positive
change he has brought to our be-
loved motherland. He has re-
stored the dignity of our deep
spiritual heritage and along with
that, the self-respect and dignity
that every citizen of Bharat
should always have. It is my
prayer to the divine that may Nar-
endra bhai and his team continue
to be protected , guided and bless-
ed in their mission to weld back
our fractured psyche and weld
back Bharat Mata.

Leader of Opposition Rajendra Rathore said that
BJP MLA Madan Dilawar’s suspension should be

and increasing mis-
deeds should be
discussed. “Whom
will the CM keep

Ministers. He has
discretion. When
the then Minister

an atmosphere of anger was created in the House. In that,
MLA Madan Dilawar came into the Well. I accept this, but
there was no such act of his that he should have been

should be revoked. “You see the video of Dilawar that day,
there is no such act of his that he should be suspended.
This is last session of the 15th Vidhan Sabha. We want to
end it with dignity. We wish we could be in the photograph
with you too. His suspension is not justified,” Rathore said.
Regarding the uproar in the House on Wednesday,

deadlock to end. “We didn’t make any sounds. But Dhari-
wal’s hearing power is weak. In such a situation, he must
have heard such voices,” Poonia said. Meanwhile, the BJP

realised that people did
not know much about the
preamble and fundamen-

“The Constitution is

meaning needs to be un-
derstood.What is secular-

natural life, and the walls
and lanes have no story to
speak of on their own but
in this movie Rajasthan is
alive. It is not the silent
background to the tribal
feud bloodshed, the
doomed lovers, the joy and
the tragedy- it is a major
part of the storyline breath-
ing life drama into every
scene. The vast sands,
stretch infinitely into the
horizon as Waheeda Re-
hman and Sunil Dutt meet
secretly or when an in-
jured Sunil Dutt walks
alone to her village- a dot
in the landscape- the
grains of sand whisper
how minuscule, how tiny
the man and his aspira-
tions are, the blowing
winds speak of the ephem-
eral desires of human be-
ings, all to be lost too soon.
Decades later, I remem-
ber and hold close the por-
trayals of Waheeda Re-
hman, Raakhee, Amitabh
Bachchan and Sulochna
Latkar, each for a different
reason. Waheeda, as Resh-
ma grows from a young
innocent happy young girl
to a woman fighting for
her family, trying to end
the enmity and finally sac-
rificing her love and her
own self for peace and to
bring change in the barren
landscape. She is abso-
lutely magnificent, totally
submerged in the role of
Reshma, there is no
boundary- She is Reshma.
Raakhee has a small
role as the bereaved wid-
owed bride of young, actu-
ally very sweet Ranjeet,
Waheeda’s brother but it is
powerful. The heart-
wrenching scene where
the grief-stricken bride
sheds all her wedding fin-
ery and bangles after being
widowed practically at the
altar and when she takes
up the sword, stark and
formidable, to kill her hus-
band’s murderer only to
drop it as the futility dawns
on her- Raakhee outdoes
herself as an actress.
And Amitabh Bach-
chan, you will get a
glimpse of the great actor
that he is in this movie as
he plays the youngest
mute brother whose desti-
ny is written forcefully by
his family. His eyes, facial
expressions and entire
body language is par
excellence as a sad con-
fused young man, very
restrained and effective.
Amitabh does more than
justice to the role of
Chhotu.
Sulochna, who plays
wife to Sagat Singh and
mother to the 4 sons, man-
ages to hold her own in
this multi-starrer. Her
pain, helplessness and fi-
nally the courage to stand
to end this feud which has
robbed her and others of
all loved ones is compel-
ling. Her warm and under-
standing relationship with
Sunil Dutt and Amitabh
Bachchan gives a glimpse
of why they may be more
humane and not blindly
feudal. Vinod Khanna,
Ranjeet, and Amrish Puri
all add a great deal of val-
ue to the movie.
The cinematography
stays with you, like I said
Rajasthan is alive in Resh-
ma aur Shera. It has a
lot of overtures of sacri-
fices by women, but
isn’t it a fact that most of
the sacrifices that wom-
en have given of husbands,
sons, and brothers on the
battlefield have been
forced and not of their
choice? So, I refuse to
celebrate that.
As for the songs, Tu
chanda main Chandni
is probably the best.
Watch Reshma aur
Shera for under-
standing the futility
of hatred and that
forgiveness and
love is the only way
forward.
This Throwback Thursday, we take a look at Reshma Aur Shera, a romantic tragedy of
an immense scale set in the infinite dusty landscape of our very own Rajasthan!

s the popular actor Rajesh Khanna
rightly said “Babumoshai, Zinda-
gi Lambi honi chahiye badi
nahi.” It implies that living a long,
meaningful, and compassionate life
is more significant than simply liv-
ing a long life. Compassion lends
colour to life's canvas. Let's add some colour to the
lives of patients awaiting a life-saving transplant.
An individual suffering from end-stage organ fail-
ure faces several hardships and mental agony in the
hope of an organ transplantation. Their routine in-
cludes waiting, hoping, praying, contacting, and
inquiring. Adding fuel to the fire, financial stress,
and constant visits to the hospital, along with a long
waiting list, make the situation extremely grim. To
sustain life, one looks for the hope of a new lease on
quality of life. If a family in their darkest hour of
grief says yes to organ donation, they can save nine
lives and enhance not only the lives of the patient
but the entire family. By donating a heart, kidneys,
liver, lungs, pancreas, intestine, corneas, skin, and
bones, one can be a miracle for a family hoping for
the gift of life.
A pledge to become an organ donor can go a long
way in saving lives. You can choose to become an
organ donor by carrying a donor card and informing
your loved one of your wishes, or you can use your
driver's License or learner's permit to make organ
donation easier. Yes, you read that correctly!
Expressing one’s wish to be an organ donor during
the issue of important documents like ‘Driving Li-
cense’ or ‘National Identity Cards’ or ‘Passport”
comes under Mandated choice. The driving License
has been effectively used in countries like the USA,
UK, Australia, New Zealand, and Japan as an instru-
ment to pledge organ donation. Under this method,
all competent adults would be required to decide and
record whether or not they wish to become organ
donors upon their deaths on driver’s license applica-
tions, tax returns, or identification cards. India has
recently adopted this method and has included the
organ donation clause in its Drivers License, how-
ever, the final consent rests with the family.
AN INITIATIVE BY MOHAN
FOUNDATION AND OTHER NGOS
MOHAN Foundation has carried out countless cam-
paigns to promote this initiative. Way back in 2006-
07, MOHAN Foundation initiated a drive and col-
lected 5,000 signatures and forwarded it to the Min-
istry of Road Transport Highways (MoRTH) and
on 20th September 2009 handed it over to the then
Transport Commissioner at a public function. In
2010, MOHAN Foundation sent a driver’s license
pledge as one of the many recommendations to the
Rajya Sabha standing committee that was looking at
the various inclusions in the New Transplant Law
(Ref: Indian Transplant Newsletter. Vol.17 Issue
No.54. July 2018-October 2018)
Gift Your Organ Foundation, a Bangalore-based
NGO was pursuing the change in the driving license
format. They were using stickers on the driving li-
cense in Bangalore to denote that a person wished to
donate his/her organs The Foundation carried out an
awareness drive from 2012 -2015, at 9 Regional Traf-
fic Offices (RTOs) in Bengaluru. They reached out to
approximately 1.72 lakh people and had 62,000
pledge their organs on the driving license in Banga-
lore They reached out to nearly 15000 people at a
similar drive held in 2013 at a Mumbai RTO (Ref: htt-

(MFJCF) - In 2016-17, Bhavna Jagwani from
MFJCF met and appealed to Nitin Gadkari, Union
Minister of Road Transport Highways for the organ
donation clause to be included in the driving License.
The Ministry of Health officials and the National Or-
gan Tissue Transplant Organisation (NOTTO) also
appealed to various ministries. All these efforts cul-
minated in the clause being included in the learner’s
License/driving License application form and the
driving License. The Rajasthan driving License has
an organ donor (red heart) mentioned on it.

SAVELIVES
Do you know what you can pledge for Organ Donation through your Driving
license and proudly have the OD Red Heart on your DL? Do it today!
The Ministry of Road Trans-
portandHighways(MoRTH)
Government of India has an-
nounced that applicants can
opt to become organ donors
while applying for a driving
licence. The ministry has in-
troduced an option in driving
licence application forms to
pledge to donate organs in
case of death by a road ac-
cident. Now, this is not a re-
cent change the government
had first introduced this op-
tion with an amendment
made to the Central Motor
Vehicle (CMV) Rules 1989
in 2018. However, MoRTH
India is promoting this now
as part of the 'Azadi Ka Am-
rit Mahotsav' initiative, to
celebrate and commemorate
India's 75 years of Independ-
ence, this year.
MoRTH has introduced an
option in the Driving Li-
cence application form to
pledge to donate organs in
case of accidental death
through an amendment to
CMV Rules 1989 in 2018
(Ref: https://www.carand-
bike.com/news/you-can-opt-
to-become-an-organ-donor-
when-applying-for-driving-
licence-2728438).
So, if one
is willing t o
opt for this while ap-
plying for a new driv-
ing licence, learner's
licence, or any licence-
related services, he or
she simply has to choose
'Yes' on the 'Donate Organ'
option in the application.
And also select which organ
they wish to donate. This
information will come on
the driving licence which
will help medical personnel
to identify them and take
necessary action in the
event of a road accident.

  • 2. rime Minister Nar- endra Modiji is very, very insightful when it comes to music. He under- stands the power music has to touch lives, to translate from one continent onto another without even speaking. He had an idea when I met him in a Grammy in December 2022. He said “Fal- guni, why don’t you use music as a powerhouse, as a power tool to spread the message of awareness of millets? It is a very superior grain in many ways.” Prime Min- ister’s idea was to use millets as the best super grain in the world and promote it to every corner of the world. This idea that he used music as a powerful tool to really fight against this hunger problem is a very smart idea and the whole song was actually his vision. We very, very gently asked our beau- tiful, amazing Prime Minister to see if he would contribute by his speech. And yes, we got that ac- ceptance. He said he would write a speech, and narrate a speech in his own words, in his own voice, in the song. And then, there were versions we sent him. The first version came in, we sent it to him, we got the feedback, we then kind of changed a little bit here and there, we made his vision more prominent because we wanted to make sure we really captured what he wants from the song and deliver that! ‘MODI HAI TO MUMKIN HAI…’ UNTOLD STORIES OF PM MODI — PART 50 PRIME MINISTER NARENDRA MODI AMYSTICANDAMATRABHAKT PMModi’spowertoenvisionandimplementissingular The narrators share the sentiment that PM Modi is the change we have always wished for. Not just because he is a true lover of Bharat Mata who has revived the spiritual legacy of India, but also because he thinks like a Vishwa Guru, always thinking of the world has one big family, and he the caretaker, incessantly striving to make life better for each living soul. His focus on millets as a super grain is just one of the ways in which he manifests this love for the world and amalgamating the idea with the transcendental power of music is PM Modi’s genius! MODI IS THE CHANGE WE HAVE ALWAYS WISHED FOR y recollections span the period from the emergency in India in 1975 until the mid 1990s. Was it first when George Fernandes was stay- ing in disguise in our home in Del- hi during the emergency or at the residenceofBabuTrilokSingh,my senior colleague in the Rajya Sab- ha, I am not very certain when I first met or got to know Narendra bhai. He was with the RSS and later with the BJP. We both were from Gujarat and we both spoke Gujarati. Although he was many years younger, I felt him to be like a younger brother. He returned my sentiment with all the love and af- fectionthatanoldersistergets. One of the most endearing things my grandfather, Gandhi taught me that leading a simple life does not take away the responsibility to be clean, neatly dressed and always present- able. Narendra bhai reminded me of my grandfather’s teachings. He was always unerringly punctual, always neatly attired and always warm and ever ready to help. He continues to be so even today. My college education was in Nagpur and I knew Narendra bhai was in the RSS. And I could see how the RSS has instilled in him these excellent qualities. On a side noteIfirmlybelievethatintoday’s Bharat,RSSisprobablyamongthe few organizations that have kept alive the basic Gandhian thought on stressing on Anushasan, that is discipline, punctuality, Swachhta, thatiscleanliness,Swadeshithatis made in India, Swavlamban, i.e. self-reliance, Swadharma, one’s duty. The divine and Narendra bhai’s own will power have in- stilled these qualities in him in am- ple measure. Those were turbulent years in the politics of India. Sec- tarian politics was eating away at the national fabric and the decades of 70s, 80s and 90s added regional challenges. So these issues natu- rally became topics for informal discussion also. As a Rajya Sabha member from Gujarat, I was deeply worried about the heavy infiltration from Pakistan to the border districts of Gujarat and the demographic change that such infiltration was bringing. Although I had shared this many times with Mrs Indira Gandhi, no one in the Congress partytookseriousnoteofthisissue. But I clearly remember how Nar- endra bhai showed keen interest in myconcern.Evenattheyoungage, Isensedakeenintellectandamind that observed and cared about such matters. We had a discussion about it and he fully understood that the stability of our border region was fundamental to the stability of In- dia. His youth and the clarity of thought that he brought was re- freshing.Hewasclearlycommitted tonationalissuesandthepoliticsof the moment didn’t seem to diffuse hisfocuseventhoughinthosedays he was fully seized with the chal- lenges that rural women faced, es- pecially with regards to personal hygiene and access to clean drink- ing water, stable electricity supply, primary health for their families etc. Later on till he became BJP inchargeofHimachalandHaryana, he seemed to have a false impres- sionthatIhadtravelledextensively abroad. I clearly remember how he would often invite me and urge me to visit Himachal Pradesh and ex- perience its pristine natural beauty. He would passionately extol the beauty of the Himalayas and wish thatsomedayourpeoplewouldap- preciate and value our own natural beauty in Bharat as they do for Swtizerland and the other nations. Bapuji always told us that we must be the change we wish to see. Narendra bhai is a change we have all wished to see for our be- loved Bharat.Although true to his personality, Narendra bhai him- self does not realise how impor- tant he is to the future of Bharat and how significant positive change he has brought to our be- loved motherland. He has re- stored the dignity of our deep spiritual heritage and along with that, the self-respect and dignity that every citizen of Bharat should always have. It is my prayer to the divine that may Nar- endra bhai and his team continue to be protected , guided and bless- ed in their mission to weld back our fractured psyche and weld back Bharat Mata. JAIPUR, THURSDAY | AUGUST 3, 2023 Glamour | Fashion | Bollywood | Hollywood | Lifestyle PINK CITY PARTY! zizaa Group of Hotels hosted a splendid Pink City Party at Gabru Junction, which witnessed the presence of distinguished personalities from various fields. P11 A 09 firstindia.co.in firstindia.co.in/epapers/jaipur thefirstindia thefirstindia thefirstindia eshma aur Shera- It will bring a lump to your throat which will stay there for the major part of the movie as you watch the powerless strength of the women try- ing to hold life together and also make you angry at the foolishness and ‘fight for honour’of the men as they practically throw every- thing away for enmity and misplaced honour. Rajasthan lives and breathes in Reshma aur Shera. Majority of the movies we watch, we can easily spot that the village/ town is a ‘set’, it lacks a natural life, and the walls and lanes have no story to speak of on their own but in this movie Rajasthan is alive. It is not the silent background to the tribal feud bloodshed, the doomed lovers, the joy and the tragedy- it is a major part of the storyline breath- ing life drama into every scene. The vast sands, stretch infinitely into the horizon as Waheeda Re- hman and Sunil Dutt meet secretly or when an in- jured Sunil Dutt walks alone to her village- a dot in the landscape- the grains of sand whisper how minuscule, how tiny the man and his aspira- tions are, the blowing winds speak of the ephem- eral desires of human be- ings, all to be lost too soon. Decades later, I remem- ber and hold close the por- trayals of Waheeda Re- hman, Raakhee, Amitabh Bachchan and Sulochna Latkar, each for a different reason. Waheeda, as Resh- ma grows from a young innocent happy young girl to a woman fighting for her family, trying to end the enmity and finally sac- rificing her love and her own self for peace and to bring change in the barren landscape. She is abso- lutely magnificent, totally submerged in the role of Reshma, there is no boundary- She is Reshma. Raakhee has a small role as the bereaved wid- owed bride of young, actu- ally very sweet Ranjeet, Waheeda’s brother but it is powerful. The heart- wrenching scene where the grief-stricken bride sheds all her wedding fin- ery and bangles after being widowed practically at the altar and when she takes up the sword, stark and formidable, to kill her hus- band’s murderer only to drop it as the futility dawns on her- Raakhee outdoes herself as an actress. And Amitabh Bach- chan, you will get a glimpse of the great actor that he is in this movie as he plays the youngest mute brother whose desti- ny is written forcefully by his family. His eyes, facial expressions and entire body language is par excellence as a sad con- fused young man, very restrained and effective. Amitabh does more than justice to the role of Chhotu. Sulochna, who plays wife to Sagat Singh and mother to the 4 sons, man- ages to hold her own in this multi-starrer. Her pain, helplessness and fi- nally the courage to stand to end this feud which has robbed her and others of all loved ones is compel- ling. Her warm and under- standing relationship with Sunil Dutt and Amitabh Bachchan gives a glimpse of why they may be more humane and not blindly feudal. Vinod Khanna, Ranjeet, and Amrish Puri all add a great deal of val- ue to the movie. The cinematography stays with you, like I said Rajasthan is alive in Resh- ma aur Shera. It has a lot of overtures of sacri- fices by women, but isn’t it a fact that most of the sacrifices that wom- en have given of husbands, sons, and brothers on the battlefield have been forced and not of their choice? So, I refuse to celebrate that. As for the songs, Tu chanda main Chandni is probably the best. Watch Reshma aur Shera for under- standing the futility of hatred and that forgiveness and love is the only way forward. This Throwback Thursday, we take a look at Reshma Aur Shera, a romantic tragedy of an immense scale set in the infinite dusty landscape of our very own Rajasthan! • 11. Your Page JAIPUR, THURSDAY | AUGUST 3, 2023 10 firstindia.co.in firstindia.co.in/epapers/jaipur thefirstindia thefirstindia thefirstindia s the popular actor Rajesh Khanna rightly said “Babumoshai, Zinda- gi Lambi honi chahiye badi nahi.” It implies that living a long, meaningful, and compassionate life is more significant than simply liv- ing a long life. Compassion lends colour to life's canvas. Let's add some colour to the lives of patients awaiting a life-saving transplant. An individual suffering from end-stage organ fail- ure faces several hardships and mental agony in the hope of an organ transplantation. Their routine in- cludes waiting, hoping, praying, contacting, and inquiring. Adding fuel to the fire, financial stress, and constant visits to the hospital, along with a long waiting list, make the situation extremely grim. To sustain life, one looks for the hope of a new lease on quality of life. If a family in their darkest hour of grief says yes to organ donation, they can save nine lives and enhance not only the lives of the patient but the entire family. By donating a heart, kidneys, liver, lungs, pancreas, intestine, corneas, skin, and bones, one can be a miracle for a family hoping for the gift of life. A pledge to become an organ donor can go a long way in saving lives. You can choose to become an organ donor by carrying a donor card and informing your loved one of your wishes, or you can use your driver's License or learner's permit to make organ donation easier. Yes, you read that correctly! Expressing one’s wish to be an organ donor during the issue of important documents like ‘Driving Li- cense’ or ‘National Identity Cards’ or ‘Passport” comes under Mandated choice. The driving License has been effectively used in countries like the USA, UK, Australia, New Zealand, and Japan as an instru- ment to pledge organ donation. Under this method, all competent adults would be required to decide and record whether or not they wish to become organ donors upon their deaths on driver’s license applica- tions, tax returns, or identification cards. India has recently adopted this method and has included the organ donation clause in its Drivers License, how- ever, the final consent rests with the family. AN INITIATIVE BY MOHAN FOUNDATION AND OTHER NGOS MOHAN Foundation has carried out countless cam- paigns to promote this initiative. Way back in 2006- 07, MOHAN Foundation initiated a drive and col- lected 5,000 signatures and forwarded it to the Min- istry of Road Transport Highways (MoRTH) and on 20th September 2009 handed it over to the then Transport Commissioner at a public function. In 2010, MOHAN Foundation sent a driver’s license pledge as one of the many recommendations to the Rajya Sabha standing committee that was looking at the various inclusions in the New Transplant Law (Ref: Indian Transplant Newsletter. Vol.17 Issue No.54. July 2018-October 2018) Gift Your Organ Foundation, a Bangalore-based NGO was pursuing the change in the driving license format. They were using stickers on the driving li- cense in Bangalore to denote that a person wished to donate his/her organs The Foundation carried out an awareness drive from 2012 -2015, at 9 Regional Traf- fic Offices (RTOs) in Bengaluru. They reached out to approximately 1.72 lakh people and had 62,000 pledge their organs on the driving license in Banga- lore They reached out to nearly 15000 people at a similar drive held in 2013 at a Mumbai RTO (Ref: htt- ps://www.thebetterindia.com/140228/driving-Li- cense-application-form-organ-donation/ MOHAN Foundation Jaipur Citizen Forum (MFJCF) - In 2016-17, Bhavna Jagwani from MFJCF met and appealed to Nitin Gadkari, Union Minister of Road Transport Highways for the organ donation clause to be included in the driving License. The Ministry of Health officials and the National Or- gan Tissue Transplant Organisation (NOTTO) also appealed to various ministries. The ministry has in- troduced an option in driving licence application forms to pledge to donate organs in case of death by a road ac- cident. Now, this is not a re- cent change the government had first introduced this op- tion with an amendment made to the Central Motor Vehicle (CMV) Rules 1989 in 2018. However, MoRTH India is promoting this now as part of the 'Azadi Ka Am- rit Mahotsav' initiative, to celebrate and commemorate India's 75 years of Independ- ence, this year. MoRTH has introduced an option in the Driving Li- cence application form to pledge to donate organs in case of accidental death through an amendment to CMV Rules 1989 in 2018 (Ref: https://www.carand- bike.com/news/you-can-opt- to-become-an-organ-donor- when-applying-for-driving- licence-2728438).
