Project proposal title and date:
Not sure yet
Main area of activity:
Print, photography
Rationale:
Over the last 2 years I have made 2 videos,2 audio projects a fanzine and 2 pages of a
music magazine. During this time I have learned how to use a camera and take pictures,
edit those pictures on photoshop, make and edit video and audio and also how to write
articles etc for magazines. The fanzine I made wasabout alternative cultures with a heavy
fashion lead as this wasmy main focus, for my fmp I am going to make a street fashion
magazine so what I learned when taking pictures for my fanzine of outfits and then editing
those images will come in handy, when I took my images I found out about how much
lighting plays into it and backdrops, for example imagestaken in dark areas all turned out
fine but very bright imagestaken in public turned out too bright and trying to control the
colour levels was hard making those images not fit in, I also learned good placement for
images in my magazine and where to put them that will stand out and fit in with the
aesthetic.
Project Concept:
The concept for my project is a fashion magazine mainly focussed on street fashion, I am
going to make the magazine almost from the perspective of a teacher trying to explain
fashion and what I find in public to whoever is reading, I plan on doing this by going into
public, finding people with interesting outfits and getting them to tell me where everything
they got was from and how much it costed. This way I can make small outfit profiles and
then go into detail about the pros and cons etc. I also want to do some research into
designer brands and make some very expensive outfits, middle range outfits and then very
cheap outfits. I will need to conduct research on the type of people that read fashion
magazines, more specifically fashion magazinesas this will be my target audience, I will
need to find out what type of content people want in my magazine as well for example do
people want primarily pictures or primarily text, I also want to find out how the tyle of the
magazine should come across, either professional and orderly or more crazy and all over
the place. Finally, I need to find out whether my magazine will be written formally or
informally, what would people relate to more, what kind of language and wording I should
use.
How will the project be evaluated and reviewed:
To review and evaluate my project I will start by comparing my own work to similar existing works
and comparing the similarities and differences, after this I will look at what went well in my opinion
and what I wish I had done differently, I will then send a copy of my product to multiple people of
all different types and get them to review what they liked and what could be improved upon, I will
look at what they say and then say whether I agree or disagree with what they have said. Since
this is my FMP I will be putting everything I have into this and it will be a real show of what I am
capable of, this will help me in the future because If I evaluate my best work then I will be able to
see the weaknesses and how to improve from what I would consider my best meaning I am
opening up new levels I can get to in the future.
