In January 2020, all Top 10 European markets except Belgium registered decrease. The first month of 2020 was characterized
by weakening global economic conditions and uncertainty caused by the UK's departure from the European Union. Main
contributing factors were represented by major taxation changes announced by some EU member states for 2020 that pulled
registrations forward into December 2019, explaining this January drop. Belgium has performed better than the average of the
last 10 years (766 units sold more vs. January 2019) partially thanks to a very successful 98th Brussels Motor Show.

Italian Market –Variation of New Car Registrations 2020 vs 2019
Italy – Market Overview
Source: UNRAE, Arthur D. Little Analysis ∆’19/’18 ∆’20/’19
New year 2020 has started off on the wrong foot for the Italian market that registered a negative sign of new car registration
(-5,9% or 155.528 cars vs. 165.271 in January 2019) mostly related to the drop of the demand of Private and Business distribution
channels (-13.9% and -4.3% respectively). While the Fleet segment grew significantly (+18.3% vs. January 2019) driven by LTR and
STR new car registrations (+18.0% and +28.2% respectively). The decline in January follows the market benefiting from gains
during December 2019. It seems that the main reason for this was down to the pre-registration of vehicles that would impact an
OEMs average carbon dioxide (CO₂) emissions in Europe under the new targets that are being implemented for 2020/21
timeframe.Although part of the reason for the latest decline could be a pull forward, the main reason is likely to be a return to
normality. In January sales of diesel and Gpl cars had a double-digit decline (-23.4% or 16.003 units for diesel and -21.0% or 2.558
units for Gpl). Also petrol cars registrations declined (-3% or 2.209 units). Hybrid cars register stable growth (+82.0% or 7.050
units). The growth trend for electric cars was more than positive (+586.6% or 1.660 units).

segment of the Italian market had an
important drop both in terms of car
registrations (14.783 units sold less or -
13.9%) and Market Share (64.3% in January
2019 vs. 58.8% in January 2020)
◼ The growth of the Fleet segment in January
2020 was pulled, first of all, by the growth
of STR segment (+28,8% or 3.037 units
more sold vs. Jan 2019).The growth of LTR
segment was more restrained (+18,0% or
3.502 units more sold vs. Jan 2019)

Coronavirus outbreak is causing disruption in China with knock-on
impacts on economic activity, including automotive, in China and beyond

◼ As of today, light vehicle production disruption widespread
caused by Coronavirus outbreak affects more than 20
provinces, plus some additional OEM voluntary actions
◼ To control effectively the nationwide spread of Coronavirus
Chinese government extended the Lunar NewYear
holidays up to February 3rd
◼ Still some local regional governments with an elevated risk of
epidemic transmission have postponed furtherly the return
to work (from February 10th up to February 21st for the Hubei
region)
◼ Meanwhile, some automakers and suppliers issued an individual
revised start dates gaining clearance to restart production amid
the outbreak as far as the disruption has a “domino effect” on
Supply chain not only in China but also abroad
◼ Still the re-start of OEMs manufacturing is expected to be slow
owing to supply shortages, employee health concerns,
transport & logistics bottlenecks and much-reduced dealer
showroom traffic (only 19% of dealers had resumed operations
by February 10th)*

All major OEMs production operations in China are expected to have
losses: it will contribute to a global vehicle output drop in 2020

◼ According to IHS Markit's forecast update*, light-vehicle production in Greater China is forecast to have a drop estimated from -
4.5% up to – 8.2% FY in 2020 (from 904.000 up to 2.203.000 units Q1 total loss). This decline in the world's largest vehicle market
will contribute in part to a 1.9% FY drop in global vehicle output in 2020 in the best scenario
Units losses, k
Although VW has no direct exposure to Hubei, it is still looking at a production volume loss of up to 135.000 units during the
first quarter as a result of its broad footprint over other affected provinces, especially Jiangsu, Jilin, and Shanghai. Major vehicle
manufacturers such as Dongfeng, General Motors (GM), and Honda run production plants in Hubei province. In Guangdong, the
impact of the outbreak on operations is being felt by Honda, Renault-Nissan-Mitsubishi, Toyota, and VW.

◼ On the worldwide level, in order to avoid supply chain disruption, OEMs are looking for alternative suppliers (e.g. source from same supplier in
other city/region, source from different supplier in other city/region, introduce a new supplier to replace a Hubei-based one) in order to mitigate the
impact of disrupted supply from China
◼ Still, logistical challenges remain enormous in several provinces. Cross-province transport still requires special permits and regulations vary from
province to province. Some suppliers are faced with substantial shipping cost increases if they have to choose air express services.
The supply chain disruption has already affected an increasing number of
OEMs outside China that are looking for alternatives or shutdown plants
