1. ELIG Update: Jan 2015
• ELIG Training Initiative & Capacity Building:
– Delivery of the training plan progressed. This and the video editing is ongoing.
– Further session delivered on AIE and FOI.
– Additional session included on Protections module re. Birds Directive & AA
– December Session on Complaints mechanisms - re-schedule was requested
– Scoping of ELIG & also Law Group seminars in 2015. Speaker liaison & planning.
• ELIG meetings ongoing:
– Meetings on: WFD with DECLG; EPA Septic Tanks; SWAN & EPA on WFD; Internal
follow-up conferences re c-418/04 – Birds & Aquaculture case.
– Mtgs held on all matters open with the Commission, focus now on ‘new’ issues.
– Exceptions: c-215/06 which DECLG cancelled – EF active on rescheduling; Waste Case
delayed given new staffing arrangements & accident on our side & then EF’s
capacity; Requirement & timing for meetings on Geo Storage & Freedom of establishment
& movement of capital yet to be decided by our Reps.
• EP member queries/support:
• EF responding to a range of members queries/issues for example: Fracking; AIE/FOI,
Fisheries & Aquaculture; EIA decisions; Part 8’s and wildlife protections;
• Also:
• EEB: Dec Board, AGM and GA – prep & attendance; CWI & CE session on
“Challenging EU Institutions” compromised due to Brussels strike; TTIP event in Brussels;
Engagement with BWI re Comm’s assessment of Irish RDP and my opportunity to raise
when in Brussels; EoY budgeting and reconciliation;
