3. School trips are an incredible opportunity for young minds
that are constantly seeking information, experiences, and
acquiring knowledge. In our experience, when these young
minds go beyond the classroom, they cement and build
upon curricular subjects and lessons. Outdoor learning
helps the students develop a more holistic understanding
of themselves, their skills, their curriculum, and how all this
ultimately relates to the development of the world.
G D Goenka Public School, Ghaziabad, is committed to create
a vital link between learning in the classroom, the students’
inner lives, and the world at large. The pages that follow are
representative of the aim of our institution, which is to take
teaching beyond the walls of the classroom into the freedom
of outward exploration and creativity.
We chose this particular program to Uttarakhand for its unique
approach to understand the chief historical and cultural
aspects besides its special focus on wildlife conservation. We
visited several places including Jim Corbett National Park.
Helping us to organise and implement this journey was
a company that specialises in student education travel.
EdTerra Edventures Private Limited brings over ten years of
experience of having helped over 40,000 students learn from
the diversity of our planet. We are happy to state the success
of this collaboration stemmed from a deep alignment of
EdTerra Edventures vision with our own. We seek to make
our students global citizens who actively understand and
contribute to the United Nations Sustainable Development
Goals. Further, from EdTerra’s travel curriculum and to develop
21st Century Skills amongst millennial students, we opted for
Student Media Projects especially EdTerra’s Travel Journalists
Program. This magazine — Students Travel Chronicle (Jim
Corbett) is a product of our students’ concerted teamwork to
write and collect their journey experiences and impressions
in a comprehensive manner. We hope you will enjoy reading
this Chronicle and have valuable points to take away from
students’ experiences.
Finally, we at G D Goenka Public School, Ghaziabad would like
to acknowledge our teachers. The success of this journey is
only possible with their responsible and informed efforts. We
also thank our parents, who remain our most fervent partners
and collaborators for the education of all the students who
study and work together.

Our journey was very informative and beautiful as we got to know that Jim Corbett National Park is a world of unique
and wonderful animals. It is full of greenery and we learnt about the history of Jim Corbett National Park and Edward
James Corbett, after whom the park has been named. We enjoyed it a lot. We also visited the Dhangarhi Museum, Garjiya
Temple and Kosi River. We also went on a jungle safari. It was very cold there and our hands were freezing. We learnt
about a variety of animals that were different in colour, shape and size. We saw many animals like monkeys. This trip was
full of fun and excitement. This was the best experience of our life. The first night we danced on DJ was a fantabulous
experience. On the second night, we had a bonfire but in my opinion, it was quite boring. The breakfast, dinner and lunch
were very tasty. Our Journey Mentors were like our buddies. So the overall experience was very nice as it was the last trip
of the session 2022-23. This journey was interesting because of the animals, greenery and natural beauty. Jim Corbett’s
natural beauty is described in its trees, grass, plants, deer, monkeys and especially tigers. Everyone should visit Jim
Corbett because it is a place for people who love greenery, animals and visiting new places. The place was very quiet and
the sound of rivers was very satisfying.

From a very young age, Jim Corbett was fond of forests and wildlife. He could understand and identify different species
of birds and animals and soon became a great tracker and hunter. Jim Corbett also spoke about the need of protecting
India’s wildlife. Jim Corbett held the rank of colonel in the British Indian Army and was frequently called upon by the
government to kill man-eating tigers. As said above, he played a great role in protecting India’s wildlife from extinction.
The park is named Jim Corbett National Park after his name. We heard that it was proposed to change the name of Jim
Corbett National Park to an Indian name but the locals refused to do so.
The Government of India launched Project Tiger in 1973 to maintain the animal population in the country and protect
them from poaching. It was first executed in Jim Corbett National Park. Jim Corbett is the abode for more than two
hundred tigers, a number achieved due to the lush forest cover. It is because the park has built a healthy space for tigers
to live and get enough preys.

Dhangarhi Museum showcased Jim
Corbett’s life and legacy, offering a
glimpse into his conservation efforts
Through the realistic depictions at Dhangarhi
Museum, we experienced India’s wildlife like
never before
We discovered that the park’s history is
rooted in pre-independence India and yet its
existence is relevant today
We were amazed to know that the park
was established in 1936 and is today the
second largest tiger reserve in India

First, we got on a jeep. There were many people renting binoculars and selling other necessities. Then we reached
the place where we could board the jungle safari. There we had a tour guide who was telling us about different things
and different animals we could spot on the jungle safari. The guide told us that animals like deer, tigers, monkeys can
be found here. There are different types of deer in the forest. We saw spotted deer, wild boars and many monkeys. On
the way, we also spotted a tree trunk camera, about which we had learnt in the documentary. We also saw a muster of
peacocks. There were many stops, there was also a canteen at one of the stops. There were two elephants at a distance
on one of the spots. We got to know that natural sindoor was harvested in a red-coloured plant that we saw. One of our
friends, who was in another jeep spotted a tiger. Visiting Jim Corbett was great because you get to learn about different
animals and sometimes even see them.

In this journey, we explored the diversity in Jim Corbett National Park. We explored different species of animals in the
Jim Corbett National Park. There are different types of deer, multiple species of birds and rare animals in Jim Corbett
National Park. In this park, we also witnessed diverse species of plants and trees. We could experience biodiversity in
this national park. We witnessed how the food chain works and how different animals are dependent on each other for
their survival. We saw different animals living in their natural habitat. People from foreign countries also came to visit the
park. This showed how popular and extravagant the park is. So, on this trip, we learnt how crucial it was for us to admire
and be proud of our heritage. We were also able to learn about the history of Jim Corbett National Park. We learnt about
tigers and other carnivorous animals in the park. So, in the end, we would like to say that this trip was both entertaining
and educational.

Jim Corbett is believed to have tracked and shot fourteen leopards and nineteen tigers. The first leopard he killed was
known as the Panar Leopard, and it was accused of killing four hundred people. Corbett’s first book Man-Eaters of
Kumaon is a book in which he recorded his experiences in Kumaon. After India’s independence, Corbett and his sister
went to Kenya. One of the remaining species of tigers, the Panthers Tigris Corbettis or the Indochinese tiger was known
as Corbett’s tiger. It is said that Corbett owned a village named Choti Haldwani and he later gifted it to the villagers
before leaving. We can learn about new animals. We saw many new animals like sambar deer, leopards, etc. We learnt
many things. We can have much more fun in the national park. We also learnt about national parks and many different
types of species. We enjoyed seeing this park. Our rooms were great and we enjoyed staying there. We spotted tigers on
our jungle safari. We visited the Dhangarhi Museum, which was great. The trip was quite well. We played and enjoyed
ourselves with our friends. Learning about animals was fun.
