Hello
PRINCIPAL’S LETTER
School trips are an incredible opportunity for young minds
that are constantly seeking information, experiences, and
acquiring knowledge. In our experience, when these young
minds go beyond the classroom, they cement and build upon
curricular subjects and lessons. Outdoor learning helps the
students develop a more holistic understanding of themselves,
their skills, their curriculum, and how all this ultimately relates
to the development of the world.
G D Goenka Public School, Ghaziabad, is committed to create
a vital link between learning in the classroom, the students’
inner lives, and the world at large. The pages that follow are
representative of the aim of our institution, which is to take
teaching beyond the walls of the classroom into the freedom
of outward exploration and creativity.
We chose this particular program to Uttarakhand for its unique
approach to understand the chief historical and cultural
aspects besides its special focus on wildlife conservation. We
visited several places including Jim Corbett National Park.
Helping us to organise and implement this journey was
a company that specialises in student education travel.
EdTerra Edventures Private Limited brings over ten years of
experience of having helped over 40,000 students learn from
the diversity of our planet. We are happy to state the success
of this collaboration stemmed from a deep alignment of
EdTerra Edventures vision with our own. We seek to make
our students global citizens who actively understand and
contribute to the United Nations Sustainable Development
Goals. Further, from EdTerra’s travel curriculum and to develop
21st Century Skills amongst millennial students, we opted for
Student Media Projects especially EdTerra’s Travel Journalists
Program. This magazine — Students Travel Chronicle (Jim
Corbett) is a product of our students’ concerted teamwork to
write and collect their journey experiences and impressions
in a comprehensive manner. We hope you will enjoy reading
this Chronicle and have valuable points to take away from
students’ experiences.
Finally, we at G D Goenka Public School, Ghaziabad would like
to acknowledge our teachers. The success of this journey is
only possible with their responsible and informed efforts. We
also thank our parents, who remain our most fervent partners
and collaborators for the education of all the students who
study and work together.

Our journey started from our school. We adjusted ourselves on a forty-five-seater buses. We danced and sang songs
while travelling. We stopped at Gajraula for the breakfast and then stopped at our hotel. We rested there for some time
and did some skits and rocked the DJ that night. After sleeping at 3 a.m., we woke up at 4 a.m. for the jungle safari.
While on the jungle safari jeep, the cold winds thrashed our faces. When we went to the jungle, we spotted a jackal, deer,
vultures and finally an elephant but could not spot a tiger. Then we ate Maggi in the jungle and returned to the hotel.
Then we took some rest in our hotel room. After that, we went to the Dhangarhi Museum and a significant temple named
Garjiya Devi Temple. Then we returned to the hotel and enjoyed the bonfire along with vibing on different songs. We also
played games and went back to sleep after dinner. This is how our whole journey went. It will always remain an exciting
memory of our school days.

Jim Corbett National Park is famous for its wildlife and lush green forests that surround it. It has become a famous
tourist destination for people to visit and rejoice in themselves. People seek refuge from their hectic life here. The history
of Jim Corbett goes way back to 1936. It started with the efforts of Edward James Corbett, who was fascinated by
forests and wildlife since childhood. He became famous when he hunted down a number of man-eating animals. After
that, he was frequently called by the government for killing the man-eaters. Although by birth, he was British but still the
national park has been named after him. This place is abundant with lush green forests currently. It was in the news in
2018 that the government is considering replacing the name of this national park with an Indian name.
One of the main attractions found in Jim Corbett National Park is the Royal Bengal Tiger. It is now an endangered animal,
which has been overexploited by mankind for a very long time. In the end, we would like to say that while visiting a place,
we should know the history that the place holds. We should try to preserve and protect it instead of exploiting it. We can
learn a lot about the present from history.

We also found many books in Dhangarhi
Museum like Man-Eaters of Kumaon that
depicts the hunting experiences of Jim

Dhangarhi Museum houses an extensive
collection of exhibits that showcase the
intricate ecosystem of Jim Corbett National
Park
We discovered that the park’s history is
rooted in pre-independence India and yet its
existence is relevant today
At Dhangarhi Museum, we learnt about
Edward James Corbett, who hunted down
tigers and leopards that became a threat
to human lives

One day before the jungle safari, we watched a documentary and had a DJ night. The documentary was very engaging.
In the documentary, we learnt about the life of tigers and elephants and the history of Jim Corbett National Park. The
documentary was followed by a descriptive speech given by Mr Prakash, a well-known naturalist. This prepared us to
be well-informed for the safari. Our next day started at around 4:30 a.m. when it just ended at 4:00 a.m. for some of us.
This did not stop us from making the safari the best experience. It began with us being divided into groups for the jeeps.
The national park was well-guarded in order to look out for any illegal activities and maintain a healthy environment
for the animals residing there. It was at the gate of the national park that our tour guide boarded our jeep and began to
familiarise us with the surroundings. Thanks to Mr Prakash and his documentary that we were in a constant argument
as to who knows the most about tigers. After an hour of unsuccessful searching for a tiger, we took a Maggi and coffee
break, which prepared us for another forty minutes of unsuccessful searching. Nonetheless, it was a commendable
experience.

by riding in an open jeep with beautiful
landscapes
Other than Royal BengalTiger, Jim Corbett
is home to a number of mammals, reptiles
and bird species
We could also spot several reptiles through
thickly vegetated parts of the forest

Jim Corbett is rich in flora and fauna. It has a rich variety of plants and animals. The fauna includes leopard, sambar deer,
hog deer, spotted deer, gharial, crocodile and fish. It has more than two hundred Royal Bengal Tigers. It has a large variety
of flora like Shivalik Sal, Bhabar dhun sal, alluvial savannah woodland, bamboo brakes and chir pine forests. It consists
of many rare plants and animals. It adds to the natural environment of Jim Corbett. Jim Corbett National Park was set
up in 1936. At that time, it was established as Hailey National Park and was named as Ramganga for five years in the
mid-1950s. When we were on the jungle safari, the tour guide told us about the vast variety of plants and animals. It is
also famous for its tigers. In the daytime, we visited the Dhangarhi Museum. We were told how tigers hunt for their food,
what is the food chain and why is it important to us. At last, we would say that Jim Corbett plays a major role in terms of
the preservation of flora and fauna.

Jim Corbett National Park was established in 1936. It is India’s first national park. It is spread over 1288.31 square
kilometres, of which 821.99 square kilometres is the core area. It is located on the Himalayan foothills, near the popular
hill station of Nainital. The beautiful Jim Corbett National Park is famous for being home to the highest number of tigers
among any Indian national park. Corbett has the glory of being India’s oldest and most prestigious national park. It has
also been honoured as the place where Project Tiger was first launched in 1973. The Government of India launched
Project Tiger on 1 April 1973 to promote the conservation of tigers. Project Tiger is the largest species conservation
initiative of its kind in the world. The magical landscape, the sighting of tigers and elephants and the experience of the
most varied wildlife make it fascinating to visit. The faunal diversity of the Jim Corbett National Park includes around
forty threatened species with four critical, ten endangered and twenty six vulnerable species.

Apart from conservation and tourism, national
parks also help a lay person connect with our

Visiting Jim Corbett National Park

Exploring the nature sparked a passion of
