School trips are an incredible opportunity for young minds that
are constantly seeking information, experiences and acquiring
knowledge. In our experience, when these young minds go
beyond the classroom, they cement and build upon curricular
subjects and lessons. Outdoor learning helps the students
develop a more holistic understanding of themselves, their
skills, their curriculum and how all this ultimately relates to the
development of the world.
Mira Model School, Janakpuri, is committed to create a
vital link between learning in the classroom, the students’
inner lives, and the world at large. The pages that follow are
representative of the aim of our institution, which is to take
teaching beyond the walls of the classroom into the freedom
of outward exploration and creativity.
We chose this particular program to Uttarakhand for its unique
approach to understand the chief historical and cultural
aspects besides its special focus on wildlife conservation. We
visited several places including Naini Lake, and Jim Corbett
National Park.
Helping us to organise and implement this journey was
a company that specialises in student education travel.
EdTerra Edventures brings over ten years of experience of
having helped over 30,000 students learn from the diversity
of our planet. We are happy to state the success of this
collaboration stemmed from a deep alignment of EdTerra
Edventures vision with our own. We seek to make our students
global citizens who actively understand and contribute to the
United Nations Sustainable Development Goals. Further, from
EdTerra’s travel curriculum and to develop 21st Century Skills
amongst millennial students, we opted for Student Media
Projects especially EdTerra’s Travel Journalists Program.
This magazine — Students Travel Chronicle (Jim Corbett –
Nainital) is a product of our students’ concerted teamwork to
write and collect their journey experiences and impressions
in a comprehensive manner. We hope you will enjoy reading
this Chronicle and have valuable points to take away from
students’ experiences.
Finally, we at Mira Model School, Janakpuri would like to
acknowledge our teachers. The success of this journey is only
possible with their responsible and informed efforts. We also
thank our parents, who remain our most fervent partners and
collaborators for the education of all the students who study
and work together.

Our journey was an extremely tiring and enjoyable one. We woke up early in the morning and reached our school. We
got in our buses and started moving towards our destination. We had our breakfast at a resort in Gajraula and later
reached our destination. After having our lunch and freshning up, we headed towards Garjiya Devi Temple, Kosi river
and Dhangarhi Gate and Museum. After visiting the Garjiya Temple, we clicked a few photos near the banks of the Kosi
river and enjoyed ourselves there. At Dhangarhi Gate and Museum, we explored the flora and fauna and learnt about
the history of Jim Corbett. After coming back to the resort, we had some snacks and then played a game, which was
followed by an activity.
On the second day, we visited the Mall Road, Naina Devi Temple and Naini Lake at Nainital. After this trip, we went to the
resort and enjoyed the bonfire at night. On the third day, we went to the Jim Corbett National Park and enjoyed the jungle
safari. It was an unforgettable trip.

Jim Corbett is a place with natural beauty and peace. After reaching the location by bus, we went to Garjiya Devi temple
and Kosi river, where we enjoyed learning about the location. The water on the banks of the Kosi river was crystal clear.
We loved the sight on the banks of the river. Then, we went to the Corbett Museum, where we got to know about the
history of Jim Corbett National Park and the species that are either endangered or extinct. Jim Corbett was a man who
helped in saving the tigers from getting endangered. Jim Corbett is famous for having the highest number of tigers
among Indian National arks. Jim Corbett National Park has a variety of flora and fauna. There are about six hundred
bird species in the Jim Corbett National Park that comprises domestic as well as migratory birds including a variety of
water-birds and waterside-birds.
We saw the exhibits of animals such as baby deers and king cobra in the Dhangarhi museum. We had various experiences
that a person must go through in their lifetime.

HISTORY OF JIM CORBETT NATIONAL PARK
07
We discovered that the area of the Corbett
National Park came under the ambitious
‘Project Tiger’ in 1971
We were completely enthralled by the
alluring calm and tranquillity along the
banks of the Kosi River
We were astonished to view the soul-stirring
displays of animal exhibits at Dhangarhi Gate
and Museum
We learnt that Jim Corbett National Park is
famous for having the most tigers of any
Indian national park.

On the night before the jungle safari, we slept at 2:00 a.m. because we were discussing our whole trip and were excited
for the jungle safari. We woke up early in the morning around 4:00 a.m. so that we could get ready for the jungle safari. We
reached there in one and a half hours. Meanwhile in the bus, we realised that we were very tired so we took a power nap.
After we were done with our power nap, our teacher told us to line up. On this foggy morning, we were shivering because
of the cold weather. We sat in the jeep in groups of five to start the safari. The safari continued for three hours. Although
we were excited to see different kinds of species but we soon lost hope of spotting any animal, thankfully a little later
we spotted beautiful peacocks, sambar deer, snakes, monkeys, woodpeckers, tiger footprints and elephant dung. After
that, we went to Sitabani temple, and got to know about the history of goddess Sita. We saw natural waterfalls. We got
to know about a very unique tree, the Sal tree.
At the end of our safari, we realised that it was a fun but hectic. We enjoyed a lot and learnt about the flora and fauna. We
were very overwhelmed by the beauty of nature. We hoped to see tigers but sadly we couldn’t spot any. It isn’t easy but
one must experience it. Our journey mentors were excellent and kept us engaged in other activities. At the end, everyone
enjoyed themselves in the lap of nature.
JUNGLE SAFARI

On our jungle safari we learnt about six
different ecotourism zones namely Dhikala,
Bijrani, Jhirna, Sonanadi, Durgadevi, and Dhela
Learning all about the diversity of this
national park during the jungle safari was
an amazing experience
We had a thrilling experience at Jim Corbett
National Park, where we saw a variety of birds
and animals
We were completely refreshed after
feeling the breeze in the open jeep safari

We had a blast exploring Nainital. We started our day sharp at 5:30 a.m. in the morning. First, we took a bath and then
assembled in the garden. We were told to have breakfast. After breakfast, we went to our bus and left for Nainital. We
had to stop in between to get into the jeeps to travel further as we couldn’t continue our journey on a bus. The journey
to Nainital was very rough because of twists and turns on the roads. It caused people to feel pukish. After a long journey
to Nainital, we finally reached there. First , we visited the Naina Devi Temple. After that, we went to Domino’s for lunch.
Then, we went to the Mall Road for shopping, which was fun. We bought presents for our parents, siblings, and friends.
On our way back to the resort, we ate maggi, which was very tasty and flavourful.
Our day at Nainital was fun and enjoyable. We saw many beautiful sights. We will never forget this experience. But there
were some things that we didn’t like, for example Domino’s meal. It was neither fulfilling nor tasty. They gave us a parcel,
which was cold and not good. It tasted like plain bread. The visit to Naina Devi was short and not worth it.
NAINITAL

We learnt that Naini Lake was made due to
the action of tectonic plates in the Himalayan
region
To relax in front of the pleasant warmth of
the bonfire felt like a therapy
Our trip to Nainital, which is at the foothills of
the Himalayas was spectacular
We discovered that Naini Lake is surrounded by
seven hills — Ayarpata, Deopata, Handi Bandi,
Cheena Peak, Alma, Laria Kanta and Sherka - Danda

As we know that tiger’s population is decreasing day by day, so the Indian government decided to create national parks.
The function of the national parks is to protect the wildlife and to help in maintaining the ecological balance. By creating
national parks or biosphere reserves, the government is helping in protecting some of the species of animals and plants.
In a jungle or protected forest, the wildlife is not safe but in national parks, it is. In national parks, there are various zones,
which can help us to discover it properly but in a normal jungle. Also, in a jungle, people are not completely safe but
in national parks, there are jeeps, in which one can safely explore the jungle. Today, we also visited a new zone named
Sitabani. In this zone, there is temple named Sitabani Temple. It is believed that it is the place where Luv and Kush were
born.
The conclusion is that national parks and biosphere reserves restrict hunting and poaching. For security purposes, there
are guards on the gate, who keep a check on the public for any kind of weapons. We think that this method is very good
for maintaining the decorum of national parks.

  • 3. School trips are an incredible opportunity for young minds that are constantly seeking information, experiences and acquiring knowledge. In our experience, when these young minds go beyond the classroom, they cement and build upon curricular subjects and lessons. Outdoor learning helps the students develop a more holistic understanding of themselves, their skills, their curriculum and how all this ultimately relates to the development of the world. Mira Model School, Janakpuri, is committed to create a vital link between learning in the classroom, the students’ inner lives, and the world at large. The pages that follow are representative of the aim of our institution, which is to take teaching beyond the walls of the classroom into the freedom of outward exploration and creativity. We chose this particular program to Uttarakhand for its unique approach to understand the chief historical and cultural aspects besides its special focus on wildlife conservation. We visited several places including Naini Lake, and Jim Corbett National Park. Helping us to organise and implement this journey was a company that specialises in student education travel. EdTerra Edventures brings over ten years of experience of having helped over 30,000 students learn from the diversity of our planet. We are happy to state the success of this collaboration stemmed from a deep alignment of EdTerra Edventures vision with our own. We seek to make our students global citizens who actively understand and contribute to the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals. Further, from EdTerra’s travel curriculum and to develop 21st Century Skills amongst millennial students, we opted for Student Media Projects especially EdTerra’s Travel Journalists Program. This magazine — Students Travel Chronicle (Jim Corbett – Nainital) is a product of our students’ concerted teamwork to write and collect their journey experiences and impressions in a comprehensive manner. We hope you will enjoy reading this Chronicle and have valuable points to take away from students’ experiences. Finally, we at Mira Model School, Janakpuri would like to acknowledge our teachers. The success of this journey is only possible with their responsible and informed efforts. We also thank our parents, who remain our most fervent partners and collaborators for the education of all the students who study and work together. We got in our buses and started moving towards our destination. We had our breakfast at a resort in Gajraula and later reached our destination. After having our lunch and freshning up, we headed towards Garjiya Devi Temple, Kosi river and Dhangarhi Gate and Museum. After visiting the Garjiya Temple, we clicked a few photos near the banks of the Kosi river and enjoyed ourselves there. At Dhangarhi Gate and Museum, we explored the flora and fauna and learnt about the history of Jim Corbett. After coming back to the resort, we had some snacks and then played a game, which was followed by an activity. On the second day, we visited the Mall Road, Naina Devi Temple and Naini Lake at Nainital. After this trip, we went to the resort and enjoyed the bonfire at night. On the third day, we went to the Jim Corbett National Park and enjoyed the jungle safari. It was an unforgettable trip. OUR JOURNEY 01.

  • 8. Team Members Anika, Gurdyal, Gurnoor, Harsheen, Karmanye, Kushnoor, Sartaj & Udi Jim Corbett is a place with natural beauty and peace. After reaching the location by bus, we went to Garjiya Devi temple and Kosi river, where we enjoyed learning about the location. The water on the banks of the Kosi river was crystal clear. We loved the sight on the banks of the river. Then, we went to the Corbett Museum, where we got to know about the history of Jim Corbett National Park and the species that are either endangered or extinct. Jim Corbett was a man who helped in saving the tigers from getting endangered. Jim Corbett is famous for having the highest number of tigers among Indian National arks. Jim Corbett National Park has a variety of flora and fauna. There are about six hundred bird species in the Jim Corbett National Park that comprises domestic as well as migratory birds including a variety of water-birds and waterside-birds. We saw the exhibits of animals such as baby deers and king cobra in the Dhangarhi museum. We had various experiences that a person must go through in their lifetime. 02. • 10. Team Members Anushka, Bhumika, Geet, Gunika, Jessie, Purvee & Vvishti On the night before the jungle safari, we slept at 2:00 a.m. because we were discussing our whole trip and were excited for the jungle safari. We woke up early in the morning around 4:00 a.m. so that we could get ready for the jungle safari. We reached there in one and a half hours. Meanwhile in the bus, we realised that we were very tired so we took a power nap. After we were done with our power nap, our teacher told us to line up. On this foggy morning, we were shivering because of the cold weather. We sat in the jeep in groups of five to start the safari. The safari continued for three hours. Although we were excited to see different kinds of species but we soon lost hope of spotting any animal, thankfully a little later we spotted beautiful peacocks, sambar deer, snakes, monkeys, woodpeckers, tiger footprints and elephant dung. After that, we went to Sitabani temple, and got to know about the history of goddess Sita. We saw natural waterfalls. We got to know about a very unique tree, the Sal tree. At the end of our safari, we realised that it was a fun but hectic. We enjoyed a lot and learnt about the flora and fauna. We were very overwhelmed by the beauty of nature. We hoped to see tigers but sadly we couldn’t spot any. It isn’t easy but one must experience it. Our journey mentors were excellent and kept us engaged in other activities. At the end, everyone enjoyed themselves in the lap of nature. JUNGLE SAFARI 03.

  • 12. Team Members Akshaj, Dhruv, Gunvansh, Harshit, Jasharan, Saksham, Saransh & Tanmay We had a blast exploring Nainital. We started our day sharp at 5:30 a.m. in the morning. First, we took a bath and then assembled in the garden. We were told to have breakfast. After breakfast, we went to our bus and left for Nainital. We had to stop in between to get into the jeeps to travel further as we couldn’t continue our journey on a bus. The journey to Nainital was very rough because of twists and turns on the roads. It caused people to feel pukish. After a long journey to Nainital, we finally reached there. But there were some things that we didn’t like, for example Domino’s meal. It was neither fulfilling nor tasty. They gave us a parcel, which was cold and not good. It tasted like plain bread. The visit to Naina Devi was short and not worth it. NAINITAL 04.
  • 13. 11 We learnt that Naini Lake was made due to the action of tectonic plates in the Himalayan region To relax in front of the pleasant warmth of the bonfire felt like a therapy Our trip to Nainital, which is at the foothills of the Himalayas was spectacular We discovered that Naini Lake is surrounded by seven hills — Ayarpata, Deopata, Handi Bandi, Cheena Peak, Alma, Laria Kanta and Sherka - Danda NAINITAL
  • 14. Team Members Angad, Harnoor, Jujhar, Nishant, Parbhjot, Tejasveer & Vansh As we know that tiger’s population is decreasing day by day, so the Indian government decided to create national parks. The function of the national parks is to protect the wildlife and to help in maintaining the ecological balance. By creating national parks or biosphere reserves, the government is helping in protecting some of the species of animals and plants. In a jungle or protected forest, the wildlife is not safe but in national parks, it is. In national parks, there are various zones, which can help us to discover it properly but in a normal jungle. Also, in a jungle, people are not completely safe but in national parks, there are jeeps, in which one can safely explore the jungle. Today, we also visited a new zone named Sitabani. In this zone, there is temple named Sitabani Temple. It is believed that it is the place where Luv and Kush were born. The conclusion is that national parks and biosphere reserves restrict hunting and poaching. For security purposes, there are guards on the gate, who keep a check on the public for any kind of weapons. We think that this method is very good for maintaining the decorum of national parks. 05.
