33. The challenge of the Australian Curriculum is to strengthen students in
their Inquiry Learning skills and integration of ICT into teaching and
learning for the 21st century. We shall sift through the Inquiry
Learning found in the History Syllabus and its implications and
examine ICT skills embedded in the syllabus and examples of their
use with higher order thinking.

Editor's Notes
As we’re all aware of different learning styles let’s move on now as we investigate this Inquiry Tutorial The narrator is a library and information science teacher who tutors the interactive student characters in a library. She interviews three students who are starting new projects. She is working with them and going to show us their skills in searching for a relevant topic. The avatars are appealing and we interact through selecting comments and feedback as they guide us through the searching process. This includes 5 interactive parts that describe the information process. These are topic selection and helping the students to narrow their research questions, finding good sources and using databases, selecting the best keywords or key phrases, identifying citations and evaluating the quality of sources. Although related to a university library the program is a motivating way to reinforce more research insights with upper primary and secondary students and for staff professional development.
There are many and varied graphic organisers, mind maps.
With which stus can use as note taking tools & to organise their findings
GLOW Gather, List Keywords, Organise ideas, Write draft
Timelines can be used to track, events or personal lives. It can be very visual using a combination of graphics and text or it can be text based only. It tracks major events in a chronological order. In own words, opinions of opposing parties.
An interesting activity to try with children is an alternative timeline where history didn’t happen and something else can be added in to change the history
Knowledge Compass Socratic Qs

Clarifying Questions What do you mean by…..? What is your main point?
How does ____ relate to ______? Could you put that another way?
What do you think is the main issue? Can you give an example?
How does this relate to our discussion/problem/issue?
Can you summarise what you have read or heard?
Could you explain that further? Why do you say that?
Perspective / Viewpoint Questions
What are the viewpoints being provided here?
Does one viewpoint have a stronger argument than the other? If so in what way? Which viewpoint or perspective do you agree with? Why?
What is an alternative viewpoint / perspective?
How do the two viewpoints differ in their argument?
What would be the opposing viewpoint?
Before we can go any further in locating our resources we need to know if students have been taught to research online,
Whether they have the explicit ability to search for digital resources using well developed ICT skills
