My Analysis
Supporting Images
Cinematography
& Camera
Techniques
Within this film, The Grey it uses a number of
camera angles and cinematography use, for
example as you can see on the right it shows
an over the shoulder shot of him and his wife,
In that picture he is having a flashback of his
wife talking to him and saying “never give up”
the director has used this so it could be like a
quote that the director uses multiple time’s
when he is having a flashback of his wife.
This within this used of cinematography we
can see that he is having a flash back again of
a letter that his granddad wrote and he has
kept in his mind throughout all of this time as
an inspirational quote:
“Once more into the fray…
Into the last good fight I’ll ever know.
Live and die on this day…
Live and die on this day…”
This quote is used at the end of the film as a
quote to calm his down before his last great
fight.

As you can see on the right this is known as a
close up shot. This close up shot is used to
show his worst enemy that he will have to
soon fight him face to face. The director has
used this shot because I think that it is used to
scare the audience because the director
coloured the wolf black with green eye’s
which tend to be quite evil colours when
coming to an action film or a horror film in the
night.
Visual Effects &
Colour Scheme
The colour scheme used in the film The Grey is
quite a dull and dark colour scheme because
by doing this it will raise the intensity in a
certain scene because the wolfs can quite
easily blend in with the dark and sometimes in
the day to take out one of the group members
one by one. They have also used visual effects
to make the plane crash site look a lot better
and to make it look like there are no survivors
left alive to help Liam Neeson get through this
deadly forest.
Genre
Conventions
This film genre is a thriller / horror film
because you don’t know if they are going to

make it out of this situation alive so they can
get back to civilisation. On the other hand the
horror feature comes into hand when they are
walking through the dark forest and trying to
survey the night while they are being hunted
down by their worst nightmare…
Narrative
The story line of this film is based on a person
who has lost his wife and doesn’t feel like
living any more.
But while he is heading back to civilisation, to
get out of this deadly country the plane stalls
and crashes in the middle of nowhere to make
their survival plans even harder. Throughout
this story line he finds some survivors to try
and make survival a bit easier for them, but
what they do not know is that they are being
hunted by wolfs in the middle of the forest.
Editing
Techniques
Throughout this film they use many editing
teqniques, for example to make the wolfs look
real they film chasing them while they run
away and then edit the wolf in to make it look
like they have been killed by a wolf, the
director has done great editing teqniques
because it makes the audience believe that
they are actually being hunted by wolfs that
could kill them at any point during their
survival.

Title Credit Design
The title credit design that the director has
used is quite a cold and dull looking title credit
because it matches with the film overall
because they are trapped in a cold waste land
and are trying to make their way to
civilisation to find good enough safety to stay
alive against the wolfs in the forest. The
Director has also put in a icy coloured back
ground to express how cold it will be out there
and how hard it would be to stay alive before
you freeze to death.
