TEXTUAL ANALYSIS
For the silence of the lambs
 For one of our textual analysis we have decided to analysisThe Silence of the Lambs
we have decided to analyse this trailer as the film is considered one of the best films in
the genre. The difference in colour with the word “silence” put emphasis on the word
silence which connotes danger of how the silence could be achieved.
 The director uses loud sharp noises which automatically tell us that this is a thriller
type film. There is lots of sharp flashing images which implies the killer is getting
inside the protagonist’s head as she describes the killer as he talks in a soft tone which
is contrapuntal to what is going on in the trailer. The director has used a mid shot
which includes the prison setting to show that this setting is dangerous.
 A prop included in the trailer is newspaper articles with scary
words such as “TERROR!” this intimidates the audience for
them which shows the killer as horrible and demented this
conveys the horror while being thrilling for the audience.
 The night vision shot gives the feel of someone being stalked thus
giving the impression to the audience that the antagonist is stalking
his victims at night while the flashing of the antagonist’s face shows
the danger that the antagonist can bring but also represents the
distress the protagonist could be in over the antagonist.
 The end of the trailer shows multiple actors and the
director’s name which attracts the audience
because people will watch films for actors and
director such as Jodie Foster and Jonathan Demme.
