MOVIE TRAILER EVALUATION

2. INTRO:
 Media Advance portfolio consists of one brief and
two ancillary task which we are suppose to do for
the OCR EXAMINATIONS.
 I selected Movie teaser trailer brief along with
Poster of the movie and magazine featuring the
movie.
 I decided to do horror suspense thriller movie’s
trailer.
 I did research in the past few months in my pre-
production time for the genre and looked for a lot of
movie trailers in this genre.

3.  I watched the trailers of Saw series, Grudge
trailers, Paranormal activity trailer and other
supernatural horror movie trailers.
 I started to write down the shots and then asking my
friends about me which gave me a lot of comments and
suggestions which helped me a lot.
 The movie teaser trailer should be at least 30seconds
short and 1minute and 30 seconds maximum.

4. RESEARCH AND PLANNING
 Selection of Genre?
- I selected Horror, suspense and thriller as my genres to create a hybrid
genre.

- Suspense is a feeling of uncertainty and anxiety about the outcome of certain actions, most often
referring to an audience's perceptions in a dramatic work. Suspense is not exclusive to fiction, though. It
may operate whenever there is a perceived suspended drama or a chain of cause is left in doubt, with
tension being a primary emotion felt as part of the situation.
- Horror films often deal with the viewer's nightmares, hidden fears, revulsions and terror of
the unknown. Plots within the horror genre often involve the intrusion of an evil
force, event, or personage, commonly of supernatural origin, into the everyday world.
they may overlap with the fantasy, supernatural, and thriller genres.
- Thriller is a broad genre of literature, film, and television programming that uses
suspense, tension and excitement as the main elements. Thrillers heavily stimulate the
viewer's moods giving them a high level of anticipation, ultra-heightened
expectation, uncertainty, surprise, anxiety and/or terror. Thriller films tend to be
adrenaline-rushing, gritty, rousing and fast-paced. Literary devices such as red
herrings, plot twists and cliffhangers are used extensively.

5.  These three genres are very much attracted by our younger generations who
are quite fascinated and excited to watch such movies.
 These genres brings out fear and makes the viewer so excited about what will
happen next that creates the viewer to keep their interest in the movie till the
end.
 Horror movie conventions are that the movie should be shot in the Dark
location and the sounds should be appropriate to create a horror/scary
atmosphere.
 Suspense movie should always have a mystery which should thrill the
audience while watching the movie.
 Movies I am inspired from are:
- The ring
- The silence of the Lamb
- The orphanage
- The others
These movies had something in common i.e that there was one
murderer/supernatural power who caused damage in the whole movie creating a
sense of being restless among the viewers.

6. RESEARCH AND PLANNING
STORY?
 My movie is about a school boarding house, a incident of murder took place
11 years ago but since then no witness and no evidence was found.
 The movie revolves around those attacks by the unknown person or
supernatural power who kills or attacks the person when they enter a specific
place.
 The main story starts which focuses a group of four boarding house students
who sneaks out of their room at the middle of the night and plans to have
some adventure.
 They decide to play the same game which was played by the young student
who was murdered 11 years ago.
 These incidents doesn’t stop, in these 11 years a lot of attacks were reported
by the students and staff.
 On March 2013, the students playing the game dares a boy to go walk around
in the corridors where no one was allowed to enter especially at the night time
 He still went to that place and had an encounter with a attack by an unseen.
 The trailer ends with the person being dragged to death.

7. THE CAST AND LOCATION?
 I selected Ahsan Khan Niazi as my leading actor in the movie trailer.
 Abdullah Khawaja as the live reporter who opens up the trailer.
 Hatim Salman, the guy I should be thankful for the voice over and,
 Azeem Malik for helping me direct the movie.
 The supporting cast: Hassib Tarar, Mubasher Naseer.

8. Ahsan Khan Niazi did the main leading role in the movie
trailer being the guy who is afraid and attacked by the
unknown creature/person.
Abdullah Khawaja did the live reporting of the murder
which happened in 2002 in Newlands.
Hatim Salman, The guy with the voice. He did the voice
over for my movie trailer .

9. CAMERA SHOTS AND EDITING
I have inserted a title for the trailer with
my name and the brief name for the
portfolio.
I used the production house name as 'Newlands Media
Production' and used its picture/logo in the start of the
Trailer. It is one of the conventions of a trailer to use
the Media production house logo or the picture in the
video.
I chose this name because i am studying in
Beaconhouse Newlands School Lahore.
The green screen was used to show
the certificate and the PG rating of the
movie. I searched the green screen
according to my PG on google.com
and used it in my movie.

10. The movie Trailer starts with this shot where
Abdullah reports live from Beaconhouse
Newlands showing the reporting from the year
2002. A medium close up shot have been taken for
the live reporting scene in order to keep the focus
on the person and the news both. Abdullah wore a
black tie, A formal shirt and Glasses in order to get
the look of a reporter/journalist.
Newspapers were added to show the
evidence of the incidents that took
place during the 11 years time.
A establishing or a long shot showing the four
boarders late at the night with nothing to do
decides to play a game truth and dare. The shot
have been taken in the corridor of the school
with only one light switched on from the
top, which focused on the characters only and
the background is totally dark.

11. This scene was shot in the corridors of
the school. The location was dark and
perfect for the scene. The camera was
stable with a long shot while Ahsan
came running towards the camera.
This is the shot where the bottles
points at Ahsan Khan and he
choses Dare. I used Close up
shot of the bottle while it was
spinning then start to pan to the
face of Ahsan Khan to show the
expressions or reaction of the
character however in editing I
decreased the opacity of the
specific scene and over layed it
with another shot where he was
running.

12. A hand-held shot with panning
ended the trailer. This is the last
scene from the trailer where Ahsan
Khan Niazi is dragged by the
murderer/killer or whatever you think
the attacker is
I used Adobe Premiere
2.0 for editing my movie
trailer.

13. The timeline of sequence 02 from the whole movie. This sequence included
shots from the boarding corridor where they decide to play.
Some of the files for the
movie trailer.

14. The whole movie trailer sequences combined in one sequence to
export it. The audio files have been added in this.
Exporting the movie in AVI format
then converting it to MP4 format
with the help of windows movie
maker.

15. Screenshot of the transactions and effects used in the movie. Over laying
of the video is also shown in Video 1 and Video 3.

16. ANCILLARY TASKS
The second Ancillary task which I had to do with the
Movie trailer was a magazine featuring the movie of
which trailer I have made. So i used the film strips from
www.images.google.com and Placed them on the top
and the left side showing the Latest movies and on the
background i placed the movie's poster. The
conventions of the magazine have been already
placed on the cover i.e the barcode, issue
date/number, the price, masthead etc.

17. The ancillary task we were suppose to do was a
poster with a magazine featuring the film. I did not
chose the webpage and did this instead of that
because I think i am better at designing the poster
and magazine than making a whole webpage. So
this is my Movie poster. The poster have the basic
colour schemes of Red and white. Red always
connotes fear and danger so I used red more as it is
a horror suspense thriller movie. On the right side i
have a Blur Image of Ahsan Khan who was playing
the main lead in the movie. The poster should have
the minimum details as the movie is yet not
released so i kept it in a minimalistic theme.
