8. Here at
Patagonia, our
company really
started back in
the 1950s.
Our CEO, Yvon
Chouinard, was an
avid rock climber who
scaled the mountains
of Yosemite.
9. Yvon wanted a
better way to scale
the rocks.
So he began
forging his own
steel “pitons.”
(That’s
french for
“little pegs.”)
10. This became a
huge business.
By the 1960s, it
(and Yvon) were
worth millions.
12. Soon there
were countless
pitons defacing
the rocks.
This grieved
Yvon.
“We have
become an
environmental
villain,” he said. So, he made
a radical
decision…
15. And that’s one
thing that will never
change.
Today we are
going through hard
changes here at
Patagonia.
We don’t know
exactly what our
future will look like.
But as you can see,
our innovation in service to
our planet always comes
first.
